GolfWRX Launch Report: 2023 Callaway Paradym drivers

Published

on

What you need to know: An almost completely carbon fiber body is the “paradigm shift” of Callaway’s Paradym driver (360° Carbon Chassis). Eliminating titanium from the body of the club allowed engineers to distribute weight in a manner that “breaks the tradeoff between incredible distance and exceptional forgiveness,” according to the company. There are three models in the family: Paradym (designed for the broadest group of golfers), Paradym X (draw biased), Paradym Triple Diamond (compact, lowest spinning, lowest launching, fade biased).

Exploded view of the Paradym driver showcasing the 360° Carbon Chassis and latest iteration of Jailbreak A.I. face technology.

2023 Callaway Paradym drivers: What’s new, key technology

  • Industry-First 360° Carbon Chassis: Allows for “unprecedented weight redistribution for maximized distance.” The combination of the Triaxial Carbon Crown and Forged Carbon Sole are 45 percent lighter than a titanium chassis allowing weight to be pushed forward (promoting ball speed) and back (higher MOI) in the clubhead.
  • New Jailbreak A.I.: The latest iteration of A.I. designed Jailbreak is 33-percent lighter and provides both horizontal and torsional stability.
  • New A.I Designed Face: Focused on downrange dispersion, Paradym features an improved A.I. designed face.
  • Face Cup and Forged Titanium Face: The first Callaway driver to feature Face Cup technology, which is joined with a titanium face for improved energy transfer to the golf ball.

Additional model details

Paradym: With high MOI and adjustable perimeter weighting, Paradym fits the largest segment of the fitting bell curve. High launch, low spin, neutral ball flight.

Paradym X: Draw-biased, high-launching, high-MOI driver. Larger profile. Most forgiving driver in the lineup.

Paradym Triple Diamond: Low spin, low launch. Slightly smaller (450 cc) profile). Paradym is designed for the better player who is looking to work the ball. Neutral bias.

What Callaway says

Evan Gibbs, Callaway’s R&D Woods Director, gave this overview of the Paradym technology:

“The 360° Carbon Chassis really refers to the center portion of the driver that’s made completely of carbon composite. Two proprietary materials to Callaway, on the top we have a Triaxial Carbon Crown, it’s a continuous carbon fiber that’s woven and creates a very thin lightweight structure. And then in the bottom, we have a Forged Carbon which consists of bundles of chopped fibers that are forged into shape.

“This gives us an advantage over traditional composites and allows us to mold it into some complex geometries and gives a lot better control of the thickness of the part. So we can strategically thicken and thin it out where it needs to be in order to get the right strength and stiffness. It’s a big advantage because it takes out all the metal in the middle portion of the clubhead.

“There’s no titanium or aluminum reinforcements, this is 100% carbon composite bonded together, and it’s about 44% lighter than a Titanium chassis, so that gives us a ton of discretionary weight that we can take out of the middle of the clubhead and move into different areas to enhance performance. A lot of it is in the back of the clubhead to give some adjustability and higher MOI, and some of it shifted to the front to enhance the ball speed technologies.”

The sole reminds me of a house ball at a bowling establishment.

Why is Callaway morphing into TaylorMade?

Old jailbreak technology out, new jailbreak technology in.

These aren’t $600 for all models are they? I heard $725 street price with any of the actually good shafts. Hope I am wrong. $600 is insane as-is.

New Tech is not necessarily better tech. Let’s have somebody (Callaway should do this) give us a comparison of distance and dispersion with this $600 extravagance compared to last year’s model. Impress me with performance not tech.

I’m super excited that Callaway is really pushing the boundaries of what is possible, and doing exactly what Taylormade did last year.

Coolest thing for sale in the GolfWRX Classifieds (5/13/24): Full set of ‘Tiger Slam’ clubs

Published

on

At GolfWRX, we are a community of like-minded individuals that all experience and express our enjoyment of the game in many ways.

It’s that sense of community that drives day-to-day interactions in the forums on topics that range from best driver to what marker you use to mark your ball. It even allows us to share another thing we all love – buying and selling equipment.

Currently, in our GolfWRX buy/sell/trade (BST) forum, there is a listing for a full set of ‘Tiger Slam’ clubs.

From the seller: (@CaymanS): “During the year of recovery from leg surgery that never quite healed, I was bored.  One thing led to another, and I ended up gradually building/acquiring the individual pieces to complete a set of “Tiger Slam” clubs.  They are what Tiger played to win 4 consecutive majors, which nobody has ever done.  This is not an exact replica of course, but something close that fit me to play a few times per year and experience what Tiger did.  But my bad leg, 4 shoulder tears, and age prevents me from the ball-striking needed to enjoy these to their fullest.  They may not be everyone’s cup of tea, especially since the driver and fairway shafts are regular flex and most players good enough to play these will need to change them, but it’s not a perfect world.  I am not a historian on this stuff, but my research indicates these are the same models Tiger used, with slightly different specs to fit me.

Full set $1,600, or…

…a donation for a Pro Kids fundraiser, or…

Driver: $70

Fairway: $250

Irons: $1,100

Wedges: $100

Putter: $350″
