New Callaway X Forged Irons Unveiled in Japan
Our friend Jonathan Wall from PGATOUR.com scooped a photo of a new Callaway X-Forged iron being released in Japan, which he shared with the golf world on Twitter. It’s a long-anticipated release, and as such, GolfWRX Members are already responding here.
It’s definitely a happy Tuesday if you’re in Japan. The new X Forged look dirty. pic.twitter.com/02MjJhsJFp

The photo of the irons come from this Alba story, and from the translation we can discern that the new irons are due for release in Japan in mid-October. If you can read Japanese, you’ll likely glean further insights. The irons are not yet listed on Callaway’s Japan website.
Callaway’s last X-Forged iron release came in 2013, and the irons became the stuff of legend. Several Callaway Staffers are still using the irons on the PGA Tour, including Phil Mickelson (See Mickelson’s Full WITB).

Spotted: Nate Lashley’s Ping PLD “Wolverine” putter
Ping PLD putters have been a very common site on profesional tours. Pros seem to gravitate toward the PLD line’s custom options and precision milling. We have seen the PLD line expanded over the years, but we haven’t seen too many, if any, large mallets.
This week we spotted a PLD putter in Nate Lashley’s bag that has a similar look to the old Ping Wolverine head shape. This putter is a large mallet with the famous “claws” on the outside and oval center that housed the alignment aid.
Nick’s putter has the PLD logo on the back but also looks like it might have an insert installed on the face. It is hard to tell but at the address picture, it looks like the face is a lighter material than the rest of the putters. The putter is center-shafted and should be face-balanced with a high MOI for stability and forgiveness on mishits. The sole is completely milled and has no markings of name or technologies that might be present in the head. A single white site line is on the top of the putter for alignment.
Nick’s putter is finished off with a chrome steel shaft and a Super Stroke Zenergy Flatso 2.0 grip in black and white.

FFS who cares about the back? Show the setup, face, and sole please!

Gearheads only slobber over the glue-on graphic plaques on the back of the irons for the ‘bling effect’.
Real golfers want to look at the performance aspects of the club design….. and even cover up the back with lead tape for added MOI.

The back of the club is largely cosmetic. The hosel offset and CG location (distribution of metal mass) is all that matters to the swing and ball impact.

And the ball is whacked only by the front of the club! What’s all this fuss over the design of the rear end of the clubhead.
Oh, I get it. The only way to obsolete the last club models is to change the appearance of the back!
