Spotted: Fourteen Golf FH-900 irons and HI-877 utility

We spotted new equipment from Fourteen Golf at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open this week, including the FH-900 irons and HI-877 utility clubs. The company is planning to launch both in March 2017. Learn more about them below.

With Fourteen irons, the higher the number in the model name, the higher the caliber of player the irons are intended to suit. The top of the pyramid is Fourteen’s FH-1000 irons, which are the company’s forged musclebacks. They’re intended for purists and the most skilled ballstrikers. The FH-900 irons are designed to benefit a wider group of golfers, with a larger, cavity-back construction that makes them more forgiving. But make no mistake; they’re still tour-quality irons.

According to Curtis Alvarez, Fourteen Golf’s head of sales and customer relations, the FH-900 irons have about the same blade length as the company’s popular TC-888 irons, but slightly more offset. They also have a slightly higher face height that helped company engineers create a more progressive weighting scheme through the set, which translates into easier-to-elevate long irons and easier-to-flight short irons.

Don’t worry about the yellow paint, GolfWRXers. The aesthetic is intended for the Japan market, Alvarez says, where it’s actually quite popular. When the HI-877 utility lands in the U.S. in March, it will have a more traditional appearance.

The real news about the HI-877 is its AM-355 steel cup face, which creates big ball speeds and forgiveness. It’s paired with a ST-22 steel body, as well as what Fourteen is calling a “Planet Sole.”

The Planet Sole was created for a Japan-only Fourteen wedge, Alvarez says, but it also can help golfers perform better from long distance. As its name implies, it has a large, curved surface that propels the utility club through the turf — even long grass.

How does this company stay in business? I’d never played a round of golf with someone how gamed Nike clubs look where they ended up. Never even seen this on the course looking in others bags on the range, at the tee, in the parking lot…

You obviously have never played in Japan, S. Korea, Pacific Islands, where Fourteen are in many bags. Fourteen irons and wedges are better than Chinese made cast garbage you hack around the muni dog track with.

You see more Fourteen sets in Hawaii compared to Big USA brands. Well said.

Need physical test data on balls & clubs. Subjective opinions worthless.

I’d like to see how a club propels itself through turf. Rest the sole of the club on the ground and just watch it go! Perpetual motion, at last.
