XXIO introduces new forged irons

Published

on

Japanese equipment manufacturer XXIO has introduced a new forged iron offering that seeks to offer both feel and forgiveness at a high level.

The XXIO Forged Irons have bodies that are forged from S25C steel, but they use high-strength HT1770 steel face inserts that work with the irons’ enlarged cavities to create more forgiveness, particularly on shots hit low on the face.

The multi-piece design also includes a cavity that is structured to both suppress sound and maintain a soft feel at impact — both innovations that will appear to feel-oriented golfers.

The XXIO Forged irons are available with two stock Nippon shaft options: the N.S. PRO 940GH DST (steel) and MX-5000 (graphite).

Both shafts have a center of gravity closer to the butt end of the shaft. This counterbalancing effect in said to increase club head speed.

Both the shafts also have softer tips in the long irons, which increase launch angle, and firmer tips in the short irons, which create more consistency.

The irons will sell for $959.99 with steel shafts, $1,199.99 with graphite shafts.

If they are made by Srixon/Cleveland then they’re a quality club. $1200 for a set with graphite shafts means they won’t be in my bag anytime soon.

What do they look like from the address position?

Yes, you’d think that with all the pics taken, there would be at least one of what the golfer sees at address.

The pics were probably taken by some pimply-faced Harvard grad who thinks that golf is just another marketing opportunity. The product is irrelevant.

What is the first thing you do when looking at new club?. You get in your stance and look down at it. Charlie had a great question.

That was my first question as well. Doesn’t matter what it looks like from any other angle.

I tried out these irons at my local pro shop. To me they feel better than anything TM has put out recently but no better than a well struck mizuno forging. I did pick up a dozen of thier balls in Japan last year for about $42 and they are the best ball I have played with yet. They are less “clicky” than pro-v1x and lighter off the face than a srixon z-star. I have one more left that I just used for 18 holes and it is still in fairly good shape. My LPS also started carrying these and they are selling them for……….. $89.99 a doz!!!

What golf outlets sell these irons and what handicap range are these clubs made for?

I was talking to a srixon rep on Wednesday, the xx10 brand is designed for players with swing speeds in the 75-80mph range. They are designed to get the bask airborne

I’ve hit these at my local pro shop. They feel great compared to anything TM is offering now, but no better than a well-struck Mizuno forging. I picked up a dozen of thier balls for about $42 at a pro shop in Japan. They are by far the best ball I have used- the only ball I like better than z-stars. They feel like a “less clicky” pro-v, a little firmer than a Wilson Duo and lighter off the face than z-stars. I was pretty excited when I found out they started selling them at my LPS until I saw the price….. $89.99 a doz!!!! What a joke.
