K.J. Choi signs endorsement deal with Srixon
K.J. Choi has signed a multi-year deal with Srixon to become the newest member of the company’s professional tour staff. As part of the sponsorship deal, Choi will play a Srixon ball, wear a Srixon glove and carry a Srixon staff bag.
“I am very excited to be part of the Srixon team,” said Choi. “The Srixon ball is a top quality ball and I feel very comfortable playing it.”
It’s not surprising that Choi’s deal does not include a club contract, as the eight-time PGA Tour winner is known to be one of the most frequent equipment tinkerers on the PGA Tour. Most pros are understandably picky about what clubs they play, but Choi takes it to another level.
The most famous example of the 43-year-old’s affinity for tinkering came in May at The Memorial Tournament. Tournament host Jack Nicklaus does not allow equipment trailers onsite at the tournament, so Choi, who wanted to try a new set of irons that week, drove to a Dublin, Ohio, Golf Galaxy where he purchased a set of Mizuno MP-64 irons off the rack, which he used to finish tied for 21st (click here to read the full story).
Since the expiration of his contract with Nike in 2009, Choi has used clubs from nearly every major manufacturer, including TaylorMade, Ping, Callaway and Titleist, as well as equipment from smaller companies such as Miura.
Choi’s interests are broader than golf equipment, however. He is known as one of the most charitable golfers on the PGA Tour, and in 2007 founded the K.J. Choi Foundation. Its mission is to foster the development of junior golfers, while placing an emphasis on education. In 2013, Choi won the 2013 Charlie Bartlett Award, which is awarded by the Golf Writer’s Association of America to a professional golfer for his unselfish contributions for the betterment of society.
“Having Mr. Choi as a member of our Srixon staff gives us a great sense of pride,”said Todd Harman, President of ClevelandGolf/Srixon U.S.A. “Mr. Choi’s contributions to the game of golf have been significant throughout his career, but his deep commitment to numerous charitable causes have made him the type of brand ambassador that any organization would be honored to have as a member of their team.”

Most forgiving players irons? – GolfWRXers discuss
In our forums, our members have been discussing players irons. WRXer ‘NorthTXGolf’ is on the hunt for some new irons but is putting a priority on forgiveness, and has reached out to fellow members who have been sharing their thoughts and advice on the subject in our forum.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- Sam217: “i230 has got to be one of the most forgiving players irons available. Cobra King Tour another. Don’t sleep on the New Level 480 DB coming out soon.”
- RangeBaller: “ZX5/ZX7 and i230 should definitely be in your testing pool.”
- YAMS49: “Another I210 homie here… Very highly recommended if you want/need spin and a consistent yardage.”
- golf-RN: “I second the Cobra King Tour irons. I am not the greatest ballstriker by any stretch of the imagination and I find the King Tours very forgiving. Toe strikes might lose 5 or 6 yards with no directional loss. You definitely feel the miss though lol but mishits from the center aren’t punished too hard regarding distance.”
