Edel SMS Pro irons expand Swing Match System offerings

Edel Golf bills its SMS (Swing Match System) Pro irons as “the most advanced players iron golf has ever seen.” Why does the company make this claim? In a few words, Swing Match weighting technology in a players iron. The system allows players to dial in weighting via three weight ports in the rear of the club.

Edel relied on a multi-step Precision Grain Forging process for the SMS Pro irons’ 1025 carbon steel for maximum durability, consistency, and feel.

Additionally, SMS Pro irons feature a tour-inspired Tri-Stepped Sole Design with three separate surfaces.

Leading edge bounce: Helps the club resist digging and loss of momentum.

Effective Middle Tier Bounce: Effective bounce of the golf club.

Trail Relief Bounce: Effective sole width of the club is reduced by the relief, resulting in a shorter, more efficient divot. “Makes the iron feel like a blade, but perform like an advanced cavity back iron,” according to Edel.

“The ability to fine tune accuracy and overall performance through weight change is an incredible innovation,” said Rocky Hansler, Chief Operating Officer. “It’s been great watching the improvements in ball striking with consumers all over the world. Now, bringing it in a players package, we’re going to open up the eyes of some of the best players in the world.”

Pricing, specs, availability

Price: $250/club

The SMS Pro Irons will be offered in variable length 3-iron through pitching wedge options. Each iron has three weights, two 2-gram weights and one 8-gram weight come stock, but can be dialed in through the fitting process for swing weighting purposes and can be customized with 4-gram, 6-gram and 10-gram options as well.

Stock grip: Golf Pride Tour Velvet

Stock SMS weights: Two 2-gram (titanium) weights and one 8-gram (tungsten loaded) weight

SMS customizable weight options: 4-gram (stainless), 6-gram (tungsten loaded), and 10-gram (tungsten loaded)

Availability: At select fitting and retail locations around the world on February 24, 2023

In our forums, our members have been discussing Mini-Drivers and accompanying shafts. WRXer ‘JamesFisher1990’ is about to purchase a BRNR Mini and is torn on what shaft weight to use, and our members have been sharing their thoughts and set ups in our forum.

PARETO: “New BRNR at 13.5. Took it over to TXG (Club Champ but TXG will always rule) in Calgary for a fit. Took the head down to 12, stuck in a Graphite Design AD at 3 wood length and 60g. Presto- numbers that rivaled my G430Max but with waaaaay tighter dispersion. Win.”
driveandputtmachine: “Still playing a MIni 300. The head was only 208, so I ordered a heavier weight and play it at 3 wood length. I am playing a Ventus Red 70. I play 70 grams in my fairways. I use it mainly to hit draws off the tee. When I combine me, a driver, and trying to hit a draw it does not work out well most of the time. So the MIni is for that. As an aside, I have not hit the newest BRNR, but the previous model wasn’t great off the deck. The 300 Mini is very good off the deck.”
JAM01: “Ok, just put the BRNR in the bag along side a QI10 max and a QI10 3 wood. A load of top end redundancy. But, I have several holes at my two home courses where the flight and accuracy of the mini driver helps immensely. Mine is stock Proforce 65 at 13.5, I could see a heavier shaft, but to normal flex, as a nice alternative.”
