New 2022 PXG 0211 woods: What you need to know

Published

on

What you need to know: Premium quality materials at an attractive price point are the hallmark of the latest iteration of PXG’s 0211 driver, fairway woods, and hybrids.

2022 PXG 0211 woods: What’s new

As we said with the original incarnation of the 0211 line in 2021, PXG engineers Mike Nicolette and Brad Schweigert “had very specific goals with the 0211 line: 1. Create a comprehensive set of clubs to fit the largest demographic of the golf population when it comes to skill and handicap. 2. Offer…proven technology. 3. Provide a premium option at an affordable price point for both right and left-handed golfers.”

All this remains true for the 2022 edition as PXG has found new ways to deliver technology at a value — for reference, 0211 drivers will retail for less than $300.

2022 PXG 0211 driver

PXG touts the 0211 driver’s Ti-811 titanium alloy body and Ti-412 titanium alloy face. According to PXG, “high-strength ti412 titanium alloy is a material that has an exceptionally high yield strength and a low elastic modulus” for thin-walled design and enhanced ball speeds. The 2022 0211 driver also features variable face design and robotic face polishing for high precision control of face bulge and roll and overall thickness. Eschewing moveable weights, PXG engineers instead opted for precise control of weight distribution — and a resulting MOI over 5,000 g-cm^3.

According to PXG, the 2022 0211 driver delivers 1.6 mph faster ball speeds than the previous model in testing.

2022 PXG 0211 fairway woods, hybrids

Traditional head shape with a clean and classic look, but with tech from 0311 flagship. 2022 PXG 0211 fairway woods feature the same square face design as 0311 fairways. Hosel weight has been moved to perimeter of the club for maximum MOI. AM355 stainless steel — higher strength than typical steel — body with a HT1770 maraging steel face. Lower spinning than previous model with similar launch.

What PXG says

“With these sticks, you get far more than you pay for! These golf clubs represent a well-researched design that strips away all distractions while employing top-quality materials and advanced technologies to help make the game easier and more enjoyable for golfers across the board.” – PXG founder and CEO Bob Parsons

Ever tested PXG clubs? We’re not talking about mail order bride pictures here. I couldn’t care less what they look like if they perform the best.

Spotted: Tommy Fleetwood’s TaylorMade Spider Tour X Prototype putter

Published

on

Tommy Fleetwood has been attached to his Odyssey White Hot Pro #3 putter for years now. However, this week at the Wells Fargo Championship, we did spot him testing a new putter that is very different, yet somewhat similar, to his current gamer.

This new putter is a TaylorMade Spider Tour X head but with a brand new neck we haven’t seen on a Spider before. A flow neck is attached to the Spider head and gives the putter about a 1/2 shaft offset. This style neck will usually increase the toe hang of the putter and we can guess it gets the putter close to his White Hot Pro #3.

Another interesting design is that lack of TaylorMade’s True Path alignment on the top of the putter. Instead of the large white center stripe, Tommy’s Spider just has a very short white site line milled into it. As with his Odyssey, Tommy seems to be a fan of soft inserts and this Spider prototype looks to have the TPU Pure Roll insert with 45° grooves for immediate topspin and less hopping and skidding.

The sole is interesting as well in that the rear weights don’t look to be interchangeable and are recessed deep into the ports. This setup could be used to push the CG forward in the putter for a more blade-like feel during the stroke, like TaylorMade did with the Spider X Proto Scottie Scheffler tested out.

Tommy’s putter is finished off with an older Super Stroke Mid Slim 2.0 grip in blue and white. The Mid Slim was designed to fit in between the Ultra Slim 1.0 and the Slim 3.0 that was a popular grip on tour.
