Rife finds new life with new putter series

Published

on

The story of Rife sounds like something out of a soap opera.

A couple years ago, the company was selling tons of putters and was one of the most popular putter brands on the Champions Tour. But economic turmoil and reports of dysfunction among owners caused the company to nearly shut operations in 2011. By the end of the year, the company had been sold to company who mainly produced golf balls, Innovex Golf.

Last year, the company resumed production with just a few, minor tweaks to its product line. But this year, Rife has come back with a bang.

At last month’s PGA Merchandise Show, Rife introduced its newest series of putters, the Vault 001 Series. The series is composed of 14 different models, each featuring the RollGroove technology, which Rife says keeps the ball on the putter face for a longer amount of time to give putts a better roll.

Unlike previous models, many of the new Rife putters feature bi-metal construction that uses stainless steel on the sole and face but aluminum on the top, which allows the company to create new sizes and shapes, as well as new sightline options.

As of the beginning of February, only two putters from the Vault 001 Series are available for purchasing on the Rife website: the Iconic Z and the Iconic. They sell for $199.95 and $219.95, respectively.

Also new for Rife this year is two models of golf balls, the V MOTION and E MOTION. Watch the video below for more information on Rife putters and balls.

IMO these really look very mass produced. Lacks the craftsmanship one or someone like me would like in an expensive putter.

funny how Rife putters are no longer designed by Mr Rife. Look out for Guerin Putters.

Guerin Rife’s new line “Guerin” make Scotty’s look like a Walmart brand. Classic look, impeccable milling and improved groove technology. Great putter if you can find one, very limited production.

Love the El Capitan! Not enough to bump the Scotty but those are far better looking than any Rife I’ve seen.

I love the design of the blade putters! They are really innovative and sleek without being over the top. Can’t wait to try those out.

“The company had been sold to company who mainly produced golf balls, Innovex Golf.”

Innovex still produces excellent golf balls.

Spotted: Tommy Fleetwood’s TaylorMade Spider Tour X Prototype putter

Published

on

Tommy Fleetwood has been attached to his Odyssey White Hot Pro #3 putter for years now. However, this week at the Wells Fargo Championship, we did spot him testing a new putter that is very different, yet somewhat similar, to his current gamer.

This new putter is a TaylorMade Spider Tour X head but with a brand new neck we haven’t seen on a Spider before. A flow neck is attached to the Spider head and gives the putter about a 1/2 shaft offset. This style neck will usually increase the toe hang of the putter and we can guess it gets the putter close to his White Hot Pro #3.

Another interesting design is that lack of TaylorMade’s True Path alignment on the top of the putter. Instead of the large white center stripe, Tommy’s Spider just has a very short white site line milled into it. As with his Odyssey, Tommy seems to be a fan of soft inserts and this Spider prototype looks to have the TPU Pure Roll insert with 45° grooves for immediate topspin and less hopping and skidding.

The sole is interesting as well in that the rear weights don’t look to be interchangeable and are recessed deep into the ports. This setup could be used to push the CG forward in the putter for a more blade-like feel during the stroke, like TaylorMade did with the Spider X Proto Scottie Scheffler tested out.

Tommy’s putter is finished off with an older Super Stroke Mid Slim 2.0 grip in blue and white. The Mid Slim was designed to fit in between the Ultra Slim 1.0 and the Slim 3.0 that was a popular grip on tour.
