Interesting photos from Tuesday at The Players

Published

on

This week, the PGA Tour is at TPC Sawgrass for the one and only Players Championship. It’s one of the biggest tournaments of the year (the fifth major, as they say!), and GolfWRX was in position to spy some interesting things from the grounds and around the practice area as players are tuning up to battle for the $15 million purse.

Don’t forget you can check out all our image galleries in the GolfWRX Tour Equipment forum.

The Ventus Red is back for Adam Scott

Although we won’t know until Thursday, it appears that Adam Scott has gone back to the Fujikura Ventus Red shaft he was using before Torrey Pines on the west coast swing.

Scott was also seen wearing an all-white pair of the new FootJoy Premier shoes, which look fresh.

Sungjae Im: Understated assassin

Sungjae’s is a good company man with a bag of Titleist gear, and a record filled with amazing consistency week after week. He has only notched 1 missed cut since the start of the wrap around 2021 season and his driving accuracy (11th on tour) and ball striking (32nd in greens in regulation) will be an asset this week at TPC Sawgrass.

Brandt Snedeker has quite the mixed bag

As one of the newer equipment free agents on tour “Sneds” has quite the eclectic setup which includes Miura, Callaway, TaylorMade, along with a surprise Tour Edge 712 series driver.

What’s old is new again for Sergio and Nick Taylor

Nick Taylor is not known for changing too often, and his TaylorMade 750 irons have staying power. Now speaking of 750’s…

Sergio Garcia had fresh grips installed on an older set of TaylorMade 750s, which are back in the bag, and we caught up with club builder Scotty G as they were getting done.

Srixon driver in play for Glover

The ZX7 irons have been a big hit on tour, and the ZX series woods are also quietly making a lot of progress into players’ bags too.

Perez loves his blacked-out PXG’s

When it comes to golf bag swagger on tour, Pat Perez’s blacked-out PXGs are dripping with it.

Chez Reavie’s custom irons

Chez has some new black Miura TC-201s in play, which marks the first time we’ve seen this finish on this set.

Aaron Dill taking inventory

Aaron Dill was spotted on the range taking pictures of Anirban Lahiri’s wedges, likely to make notes on any grinding of stamping before building a new set.

Adam Hadwin is grinding

Good luck trying this drill without all the tees. This is why these guys are so good!

Hideki Matsuyama’s bag is always full!

A lot of golfers aspire to test as much gear as Hideki—it’s truly inspirational as a gear head.

Bryson’s bag looks ready to go

After his big win at Bay Hill, we don’t expect any changes to be made to his gear this week, but then again, it’s Bryson, so we’re staying tuned.

New staff bag for Dufner

Last week, it was a new putter and stand bag for Dufner, and this week it’s a brand new Cobra staff bag and some potential iron testing for the former PGA Champion.

Phil is launch monitor flexin’

If you have two launch monitors, do you even have one? Phil is leaving no stone unturned this week at The Players.

Keith Mitchell eyeing up prototype drivers

The new Mizuno ST drivers have been a big hit so far this season, but the R&D process never ends. Keith Mitchell was spotted handling a “Proto A” head on the range before it was quickly removed from our view.

Things change and things stay the same – Stenson edition

Stenson’s Callaway Legacy Black irons are still going strong.

A Furby for Joaquín Niemann

Joaquin Niemann’s nickname, as we have gleaned from his wedge stampings, is “Furby Boy”. Ergo, a Furby headcover. Well played.

Srixon Z745 staying power

“When it’s not broken, you don’t fix it” must be Brian Gay’s motto when it comes to equipment because he is still using his Srixon Z745 and 545 combo set.

Sneds with the Tour Edge 721* Series Driver, not 712..

That thing looks sweet. Interesting to see what the free agents have in the bag.
