Tiger Woods signs multi-year equipment deal with TaylorMade
Tiger Woods announced that he has signed an equipment deal with TaylorMade to play the company’s driver, fairway woods, irons and wedges.
“After several months of testing and all brands to choose from, the choice is clearly [TaylorMade], Woods said on Twitter. “Proud to join the family!”

Woods was first spotted using TaylorMade golf clubs in the weeks prior to his return to competitive golf at the Hero World Challenge in early December. During the tournament, he used TaylorMade’s 2016 M2 driver (9.5 degrees) and two TaylorMade 2016 M1 fairway woods (15 and 19 degrees).
According to a TaylorMade representative, Woods will use use a TaylorMade driver and two fairway woods this week in 2017 PGA Tour debut this week at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. While he has a 13-club contract with TaylorMade, he will not change to TaylorMade irons and wedges this week.
“For irons and wedges, I’m going to work closely with the team at TaylorMade,” Tiger said in an email distributed by TaylorMade. “For my irons, we will be developing a new custom set. Over the coming months, we will take you along the development journey, from the initial design concepts all the way through the process until they make it into my bag. Finally, the new MG Wedge is absolutely beautiful, and we’re working to dial in the exact grind for me. There’s no doubt it’s fun to have some new weapons, and the confidence I have in my new TaylorMade equipment makes me excited for the season.”
Tiger is currently under contract to use Bridgestone Golf balls (he uses the company’s B330S model) and says he will continue to use the Scotty Cameron Newport 2 GSS putter that he has had in the bag for 13 of his 14 major championship victories.

Recently, graphite iron shafts have grown in popularity as technology has taken giant leaps forward. The old thoughts of graphite being too soft, too high launching, or too inconsistent have gone by the wayside. This new batch of graphite iron shafts has been played by all levels of golfers, from players who do need help with launch and spin to professionals who are looking for added control.
Today, we’re taking a look at one of these “new graphite iron shafts.” UST Mamiya Dart V irons shafts come out of the company’s TSPX Lab that creates the most cutting-edge designs and uses the latest materials.

UST Mamiya’s Dart V shafts are designed around Dual Action Recoil Technology that makes sure the entire shaft flexes consistently for much tighter shot dispersion. The Dart V shafts are offered in 90, 105, and 120-gram weight options to fit a wide range of golfers. UST Mamiya also has very tight tolerances and quality control to ensure that every shaft is the same in the set. Utilizing Torray M40X carbon fiber gives the engineers a material that is 30% better tensile strength and gives the shafts better feel with less harsh vibration.
I went with the Dart V 105 F4 (stiff) shafts as I have found more success with lighter shafts as I have gotten older. Building these shafts up with a set of Vega Mizar Tour heads was very easy and didn’t take a lot of tip weights. I think the 7-iron needed a small 2g tip weight and the rest were installed without any weight at my desired D1 swing weight at standard length with standard size grips.
Out on the course, the first thing I noticed was how tight the Dart V 105 feels. Every swing feels like the shaft is under complete control, no matter if you take a partial or went after it. Stout is a great term for the shafts as they definitely play true to flex, but they aren’t harsh feeling. While the Dart V plays stiff, it still does a good job of reducing vibration and keeping joints or injured body parts free from additional shock.
You can feel the shaft load during the transition to the downswing, but it has a stiffer feel of less flex than some other graphite shafts. Some players like this boardier feel and will get it with the Dart V. Feel at impact is similar to the loading where you are going to feel some kick at the bottom of the swing, but it won’t be as aggressive as other shafts. On center strikes the Dart V offers a very solid feel with great, soft feedback. When you mishit shots with these shafts you get immediate feedback with some additional vibration that feel players will really like. The mishits aren’t too harsh on the hands but still let the head give you the louder click that your ears will want.
Ball flight for me was lower than I expected with UST Mamiya listing the shaft as more mid-launch. I would consider my launch with the Dart V mid-low launch with a more penetrating flight. Better players will like the ability to flight shots, with any club, higher or lower in order to get the ball close to the hole. The penetrating flight helps in windy conditions as it offers a stable trajectory that doesn’t waver from your aiming point.
Shots that you mishit off the toe or heel go pretty straight and you don’t see big curvature that causes you to really miss the green. Most of those misses come off the face fairly straight and leave you with a fairly easy chip or pitch shot to the green. Distance control is consistent and repeatable as I found on the range that well-struck shots have a very tight carry distance window and I have yet to see some wildly long or short shots show up.
Overall, the UST Mamiya Dart V iron shafts are solid options for players who are very particular about performance. Like other shafts among the new breed of graphite iron shafts, the Dart V delivers the type of shots you need when you need them.

OK…having undergone several ortho surgeries I’ll give him 5 or 6 months for rehab – but after another 6 months of hard work only 4 falrlways hit?…How’s that TM driver workin now… try a bonded Honma, Tour Edge or – buy the old (pre Nike deal) Titleist or Cobra molds and make a hundred for himself. They were the last two drivers he could hit the planet with.
I wish him no ill-will, just tired of the incessant BS coverage. Golf’s moved on, he’s welcome to keep working to catch the train. Let us know when he finishes top 5 this season. Then maybe there will be something to pay attention to…

How come when Rory is set to change from Nike everyone points out that he still gets his Nike contract less what he is paid from someone else. Tiger’s deal with Nike was huge and I doubt Taylormade could match that, so then it wouldn’t exactly be “All about the $$$$$$$$” would it?

It’s crazy because Tiger is literally the tide that lifts all boats in the golfing industry – so if you care at all about the golfing industry, shouldn’t you care about what Tiger is doing – even if you don’t like it? It just doesn’t make any sense. The only reason that makes sense is that they’re being a hater holding on to some bitterness from the events of 2009, which is laughable. Completely ridiculous.

Choose a company but do it for free… Take no money and choose because it works best for his game. He doesn’t need the money.. And if he truly is staying around for the love of the game and the competiveness, then do it “pro bono”

For my irons we will develop a new custom set, what like take a set of unbranded Miura’s, loft, bounce and lie to Tigers liking X100 shafts then stamp TM on the back. (in reality they don’t have to be Miura as there are plenty of quality forging houses in Japan and China to choose from)

My question is why Tiger and Rory, who are both worth eleventy billon dollars, need to sign exclusivity deals with ANYONE??? Why not just play whatever you want? Tiger couldn’t slam that Nike driver fast enough once he put the M2 in his hands, so why get into all of that again? They could have huge apparel deals and then do whatever they want. Totally don’t get it.

I have never heard anyone say… “nah I don’t want to make money” Don’t kid yourself. Companies will pay big money for these big names and they would be crazy to not accept that money.

As long as consumers keep buying new clubs because they are just that, new, companies will continue to sign pros that make them money. They will keep jacking the price of clubs up, the bigger the names they sign. No discredit to TM, they make good stuff, but I’m a Callaway guy myself. As far as Tiger goes, he’s not stupid, he will sign for the right price tag. Whether your a Tiger fan or not, he is still a draw for ticket sales, and equipment sales.

Why does he need to custom design irons? He should be able to take the new 770 or 750 irons and tweak the grind and weight a little and just play. I think he needs to quit thinking about being perfect and just go out and play golf.!

don’t know if you got your “personalized” email from “tiger” announcing his new endorsement but my favorite part of the letter is that they actually included a signature on the bottom like he actually works there.
