First Look: TaylorMade M1 drivers, fairway woods and hybrids
GolfWRX brings you the first look at in-hand photos of TaylorMade’s new M1 line, including the 430 and 460 drivers, fairway woods and rescue clubs.
See below for in-hand photos and information, and click the links to join the discussion in the forums.
M1 driver
TaylorMade’s M1 drivers — available in both 430 and 460 models — have a T-track that allows golfers to change both launch height and launch direction. Also, the drivers have a light-weight carbon composite crown that lowers overall center of gravity (CG) to increase forgiveness and distance potential.
T-Track system
- A 15-gram weight slides from side-to-side on the front track, allowing golfers to choose between fade, neutral and draw biases by up to 25 yards, according to TaylorMade.
- Also, a 10-gram weight slides from front-to-back on a perpendicular track, allowing golfers to change between high, medium and low launch. Golfers will see up to 300 rpm and 0.8 degrees of launch adjustment, according to TaylorMade.
The loft sleeve on the hosel is adjustable by 4-degrees (+/- 2 degrees), with 12 different positions allowing golfers to change face angle, loft and lie.
Stock shaft options
- High-launch: Fujikura Pro 60 (X-, S-, R-, M-flex)
- Mid-launch: Mitsubishi Rayon Kuro Kage Silver TiNi 60 (X-, S-, R-flex)
- Low-launch: Aldila Rogue Silver 70 (X-, S-flex)
TaylorMade is also offering an additional 25 premium custom shafts at no upcharge.
M1 430 vs. M1 460
Specs, pricing and availability
The M1 drivers will be available on Oct. 8 for $499.
See what GolfWRX members are saying about the M1 driver in the forums.
M1 fairway woods
TaylorMade’s new M1 fairway woods have a sliding track that houses two 15-gram sliding weights that allow golfers to adjust the directional bias between draw, neutral and fade. The woods also feature a carbon crown composite to lower the CG for a higher launch and reduced spin.
The sliding weights have a “recessed design,” which TaylorMade says will improve turf interaction.
Specs, pricing and availability
The M1 fairway woods come with a stock Fujikura Pro 70 shaft (X, S, R and M flexes) in 15, 17 and 19-degree options, and will be available on Oct. 8 for $299.
See what GolfWRX members are saying about the M1 fairway woods in the forums.
TaylorMade M1 Rescue
TaylorMade’s new M1 Rescue clubs have two moveable weights in the sole — one near the toe, one on the back portion of the sole — allowing golfers to adjust between neutral and fade bias. They also have what TaylorMade calls a “Speed Pocket,” behind the impact area to improve ball speed and maintain distance on off-center hits.
The loft sleeve on the hosel allows for 3-degrees of adjustment (+/- 1.5 degrees) to change face angle, loft and lie.
Specs, pricing and availability
TaylorMade’s M1 Rescue clubs come with a stock Fujikura Pro 80 shaft (X-, S-, R- and M-flex). Lofts include 17-, 19-, 21-, 24-degree options, and will be available on Oct. 8 for $249.

Spotted: Titleist GT drivers, fairway woods at the Memorial Tournament
Titleist released its TSR family of drivers in September of 2022. Owing to the company’s recent pattern of a two-year product cycle for its woods, GolfWRXers have been eagerly anticipating the next iteration of the Titleist Speed Project…or whatever direction the company decided to go in improving upon the most-played drivers on tour.
With tour seeding officially beginning at this week’s Memorial Tournament, it seems Titleist is going with the latter. That is, not a “TS” driver, but rather, new “GT” nomenclature.
As always at this stage of the seeding process, Titleist is mum on any details, but we do have in-hand photos for your perusal and speculation.
Check ’em out, below.
Titleist GT2 driver
Titleist GT3 driver
Titleist GT4 driver
Club Junkie’s take
The new Titleist GT drivers and fairways look really good, as you would expect from a Titleist club. The shaping between GT2, GT3, and GT4 look to be very similar from address. This can help in fittings where a player gravitates towards the look of one driver even though the performance of another model might be better. Overall the three drivers look to be a touch more rounded compared to the TSR models and the sleek sole design that helps with aerodynamics is slightly more intricate. It will be interesting to see how the Titleist fans will react to the “GT” text as the alignment mark instead of the legendary triangle.
The biggest change to my eye is the movement of the GT3’s movable weight back to the sole of the club. Titleist moved the sliding weight to the rear of the driver for TSR3 and now we have it back low and forward. This could mean lower spin and launch for the GT3 model. Interestingly, the plate that holds the weight in place looks to be completely closed with no weight tab showing out from the track.
It is hard to tell from photos, but the face on the GT2 looks to be deep, maybe deeper than the TSR2. It looks like the single rear weight stays put and we “2” series players won’t get the adjustable option like the TSR3 again.
Titleist looks to be sticking with the dual weights on the TSR4, so like last year you can dial it in for low spin with the heavy weight forward or keep it back for some added forgiveness. The shape looks to be a smidge more compact in the GT4, shorter from front to back. This could mean a slightly smaller CC or just different shaping.
Check out more in-hand photos of Titleist GT drivers here.
Also spotted at Jack’s place: new GT2 and GT3 fairway woods.
Our on-course reporter will offer updates as soon as we know anyone is testing the new woods. For now, enjoy the photos.

It might very well be a great driver but I just do not like the look of the white metal/carbon fiber combination. It reminds me of the metal/wood appearance of the old Lynx drivers from the 80’s.

Nice club, works even better with the right shaft, longer than my SLDR and more accurate to boot. Less closed faced than most TM Drivers, which is welcome for me as I don’t need any additional help hooking the ball. It will probably find its way into my bag for next golf season. Got the highest praise from a TM opposed clubfitter in my store by saying, “I don’t hate it.” I am open minded and try every new release out and balance them on their own merits.

I just demo’d the M1 fairway 15* with the Rogue 70 against my R9 13*with NV85X on trackman. Needless to say, the R9 beat out the M1 on spin, distance and launch angle and mishits.

looks like another 9 month shelf life – viewed the club in person today – best not tap the crown in anger – 430 looks better than 460 – ??? does it sound like the old Ft Series from Callaway – Fongo Bat? anybody hit this thing?

Can’t hate on the look! The half white crown will retain the illusion of newness by masking the pop up & sky marks… lol! TM just needs to learn how to make a scratch resistant sole to make it impervious to drop kicked dummy marks!

The comments are very entertaining.
All BLACK M1 would attract my attention, don’t like the half breed look but I do understand that marketing wanted it so groupies could tell Jason had something new.
The original post contains limited information:
1) Does shaft tip fitting from R15, SLDR, R1 work in M1?
2) Is fitting 0.335″ Tip? or 0.355″
3) Head Weight?
4) Do the weights come off like the R15 ones do?
BTW my R9 TP still works better than R1 TP, SLDR, or R15 TP. So it lives in the bag still.
October 8 th 2015 is designated as D Day.

Tip adapter from SLDR, R15 all work in M1 but will retain +/- 1.5 deg from SLDR in M1. My Speeder 757 shaft was sweet in this club. Hotter launch and lower spin than my SLDR. (I launch and spin the ball fairly low anyway) probably back to 9.5 deg from 11 deg in SLDR.
.335 tip is standard, but .350 adapter will fit from the other models. Designed more like a TP model from the get go.

I wish they would quit bringing the paint down so low onto the faces. I know they do that on purpose so one bad swing and my new driver looks old and now I need the new one that is coming out in 3 months. Designed obsolescence at work again. I don’t like that they are setting me up like that. I don’t by TM anymore.

I know this won’t be popular, but maybe there’s a reason for TM bashers. Maybe, folks with a really solid set of clubs or even just woods like Rocket balls or even Burners are justifiably upset they bought into the company 3-5 years ago. The company that made all the best drivers in the last ten years keeps making their own products obsolete, despite obvious market data showing gains to every department Adidas has, Taylormade continues to hemmorage money, and they won’t change a thing. They’re going to sell soon, all the die hards know it, no company loses like that and stays afloat . They’re losing big time to Callaway in emerging market shares, for the first time in years, and theyre throwing freaking release parties in the hamptions, it reminds me of Efron
. I happen to like the new driver, I feel for guys hoping for a rebirth of the glory days, but TMAG is a sinking ship, and they did it to themselves.

The comments on here are ridiculous. Awesome it is another new driver/woods/hybrid that’s more options for us the consumers. Either you buy it or you dont, why the need to bash TM for putting out new equipment? I know i look forward to new everything; clothes, cars, irons, drivers, shoes, cell phones just to see what they look like. Thats why a lot of ppl go to the PGA Show every year to see what is new. Also the whole resale argument, I do not understand at all. I guess it must be because i dont buy equipment with its resale value in mind. Its golf equipment ppl not an investment (unless you play professionally of course). Bottom line if you like the clubs great if you dont great move on and find something that works for you.

I will stick with my Nickent 4 dx Evolver driver that started all of the shaft and the options for loft etc.. I hit it great. As they say if it isn’t broke don’t fix it. I have the shaft and loft combo that works the best for me.
prime21
Sep 16, 2015 at 10:26 am
The Nickent 4 dx Evolver set the standard for driver technology. There must be at least 0 tour players currently gaming it. How do you know your shaft/loft combo works best for you if you haven’t tried anything new? If it doesn’t beat the Nickent WonderWand, then no harm, no foul. But I guarantee there are plenty of pipes out there that will leave yours in the dust. Sounds like you got a great deal at a neighbors yard sale & you are trying to defend your $20 purchase. Any driver post that includes the word Nickent receives an automatic LOL designation. Thank you though for providing a gem that I can recall every time i need a good laugh for the remainder of the week!
Michael
Sep 21, 2015 at 8:05 am
Hi prime,
have you ever seen ballspeeds and general spin properties of the 4DX Evolver? There is nothing to LOL about. I fit Callaway and Titleist woods and the company I work for used to distribute Nickent. There aren’t many drivers out there, that blow the Evolver out of the water. There are a couple out there, that are more game improvement and easier to hit. But if the Nickent driver is dialed in, it’s still a driver hard to replace. Believe me – I tried.
Regards,
Michael

Totally agree. It is not a matter of life or death. You do not need to buy a new driver every five minutes. Better to spend the money on lessons. But to those who do buy often – thank you. After 10 years with my old driver I recently bought a SLDR on eBay for USD 85 in mint condition.

unlike the majority of golfers who think new products kill the game, I love seeing the new gear come out and have played Taylormade drivers for years (R7, R9, R11, SLDR.. skipped R15) and unfortunately this bad boy is just too damned ugly.
Every manufacturer produces a product which will maximise my distance (with COR limits and physics / spin models) so I’ll just pick the one that looks the best, this aint it i’m afraid.
The sole is far too busy and ugly, and the top is only just passable – no doubt it’ll sound tinny as most TM drivers do too.
Great that they’ve dropped the R name again as the R15 was destined to fail from the second they made it (looked exactly like an R11) – Taylormade and the golf junkies on these websites forget that 95% of the golf buying market AREN’T massive golf nerds like we are (or the people at taylormade are), you have to make clubs with a noticeable difference model vs model and to the casual golf purchaser the R15 looked exactly like THAT WHITE DRIVER YEARS AGO (The R11).
We’ll see if this one works or not hey!
And GREAT custom shaft options, TERRIFIC, everyone in the US can get the right shaft for their game, rest of the world will get the cheapest, worst shaft in the range and no other option, thanks again for that TM.

Sep 9, 2015 at 8:57 pm
Uhhmmm… Tell me… why would I want the second weight to move back? To counter-balance for the carbon fiber crown and/or for the low-spin shafts? And for 300 rpm / 0.8 launch angle differences? Can anyone including the top PGA pros hit multiple drives within those margins anyway?

I alternate between two drivers a SLDR and a Cobra Fly Z. Both have a custom shaft and are perfect for me. But I’m a ho so my next purchase was going to be an R15 or a FlyZ + that I can demo against each other using my preferred shaft now that their prices are dropping. I like TMAG but I like the launch adjustability (front to back) provided by the FlyZ+. Suffice it to say this entry has me intrigued. Only problem is the obvious one. The price tag.

Sep 11, 2015 at 12:37 pm
just based on my experience with both the r15 and the fly z with many different shafts….the fly z + in the forward position is a great combo bomber forgiveness low spinner…..my fly z spun too much. the r15 is by far my longest club ive ever owned but felt like i missed fairways too much….same shaft options….if you put the r15 in the forgiving setting, i feel like you lose the extra distance and dont gain the forgiveness of the fly z plus.

Where is the list of additional 25 premium custom shafts?
The R15 is now $299.99, soon to be $149.99. How many extra yards will the M1 give you? Jason Day says he will get 10 yards. That means everyone else will get zero yards.

I’d say for most people they’ll probably get +3 yards from adjusting and then +3 from the 45.5 inch shaft which is long for a TP type driver

Sep 10, 2015 at 7:44 am
Well you are correct about that – it is people. But its not like the world of rank and file golfers just up and decided one day “lets take a giant sh!t on TM”. TMAG financials are a mess for a reason – you can only flood the market with so much merchandise through accelerated release cycles and false claims of “20 more yards” before you reach a tipping point with consumers and they simply stop buying your sh!t. So is the TM warehouse worker suffering? Probably. But if they are mad they should direct their anger inwards, towards the people who plot their business strategy. TM would love to clone about a million guys like you and apl, but they can’t. The “evil empire” is withering from within, not from the outside.

Am I the only one who thinks the bottom of these look like they are pieced together with Legos?? Personally I don’t love taylormade woods, in part because of the significant lack of quality stock and upgrade shafts available, and partially because I just don’t love how they feel. Obviously, its all about personal preference and fit for each individual golfer, so anyone’s opinion is really only applicable to themselves. Regardless of how often a company pumps out new clubs, I tend to only switch drivers every 3-5 years. I just took the G15 out of my bag this year. The numbers on new drivers never came close to being significantly better for me until I found my current stick…and I’m an equipment junky through and through.

I actually kinda liked it until I saw the sole… ugliest driver put out by a major manufacturer in a LONG TIME… and I played the SLDR for quite a while (still do sometimes)

Can’t keep up with TM. R15 just came out.
Anyway, are these supposed to be geared toward game improvement? Didn’t notice a TP model mentioned.

Stupid facts. According to WRXers no other company has released a club in 2 years. They exist solely for the benevolence of the game, and not to generate profits. I don’t know why I continue coming to this site. The posters on here are the reason golf is dying… small minded, ignorant, and willful morons who think if its not up to their unattainable standards, it shouldn’t be… ugh.

And they all hit 280+ yrds, must tip their shafts, and any stock or sub-$300 shafts are garbage.

Wow… I wasn’t too happy with the stock shaft on my R15 430 and re-shafted with Kuro Kage Silver TiNi right after watching Jason Day win the PGA Championship with it. It was a 2013 model so I could find a used one cheap online. There was a reason why he chose it over the newer versions and TMaG decided to offer it as one of the M1’s stock shaft options.

TiNi wasn’t available in 2013

I don’t like the look of the hybrid. Looks like a Dick’s version of Nickent club.

Enough to make a hole in one on a Par 4 but next model in few months will aim to Par 5s in one.

The only question that really matters…will R1/SLDR/R15 shaft adapters work in the M1 series?

I like it. These guys make great drivers. I would put money on it that this performs as good as the coveted G30 and sounds better. I play the G30 and cant deny the looks of this head. Reminds me of a race car. Sexy and full of tech.
