Garrigus fixes issue with iron weights, shoots 65
If you ever think the swing weight of your clubs doesn’t matter, just look at Robert Garrigus.
The former PGA Tour winner has admittedly struggled of late — making just seven of 17 cuts in 2015. But after fixing a weighting issue with his irons, and switching shafts, he fired a 65 in Round 1 at the Travelers Championship on Thursday.
Robert Garrigus made a strange equipment discovery… changed it… and shot 65. http://t.co/JgS9fvaO4B
— PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) June 25, 2015
Garrigus has played TaylorMade’s RSi TP irons with KBS Tour (white) shafts since the Humana Challenge in 2015, but after recognizing the weight issue, TaylorMade’s equipment team built him a new set of RSI TP irons, with True Temper Project X 7.0 shafts.
So far, the change has been helpful, for both his scorecard and confidence.

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons
In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.
For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- btyh: “Holy offset.”
- Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
- bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing
As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.
Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.
What happens when 4 #PGATOUR pros take a day off?
Luckily, the cameras were rolling.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.

People say an individual can’t tell the difference between 2 swingweights. Not true. It’s like walking with a rock in your shoe if one of your irons doesn’t match. It’s a big deal.

I think it was just an overall dead weight issue….went to a heavier shaft

I wonder who made the set that was incorrect…Tmag tour ?

I wonder how the weights were wrong in the first place? Doesn’t every tour player have their clubs meticulously checked out before the put them into the bag? I would think that the TM tour van would have his specs saved and when he received the new irons they were built to the proper specs. Sounds like somebody messed up.

My weights were off as well. My 4 iron was extremely overweight. Put him on a diet, and, along with moderate exercise, he is back to the weight of the other irons. The big lesson here is be careful what you feed your clubs.

So, what were his swing weights, old and new, and also what were the flexes measured? And what about the changes in launch and spin? Come now Wrx, get us the numbers, not just hearsay.

Maybe it was mostly mental? I don’t see Garrigus shooting 65s every round for the rest of the season. Just saying…

Others have said it, but I feel the need to reiterate: what exactly has he changed? Both the KBS tour and PX 7.0 are 130g shafts. Changing one for the other isn’t going to affect swing weight. So what’s he changed? Heavier heads? Lighter heads? Heavier grips? Lighter grips? Counterbalanced shafts? This isn’t much of an article without any facts, at the minute it just reads as “pro-golfer mid-slump shoots low round out of nowhere”, which really isn’t much of a story…

Was the issue that the slightly counterbalanced kbs shafts didn’t give consistent swingweights? Is there more to the story?
