Why does the article say that Snedeker plays a 9,5° driver, when the picture clearly states that it is a 8,5° ? Besides that, it is a great relief to see that it is not only the expensive equipment that makes the headlines – And it shows that it is not always the fancy stuff that fits You !

You won’t be able to find a TM Superfast driver anywhere by Wednesday this week. I called a friend of mine who has lot’s of preowned clubs in his store and he said all 5 of his superfast’s were gone by this morning. 4 yesterday, the last one this morning. No one cared about the shaft, just the head. They think they are hot. Imagine some place that has some new heads around. They might get a fortune for them because that model is all but used up. I think they have a hook face, at least the regular, maybe not the TP.

I know guys like to beat up on TM and I have some too but they “do” make the best drivers in my opinion. I have been in and out of drivers and like Titleist golf balls, I always seem to go back to them and TM drivers. My reason is mainly optics as they look the best at address position and they make so many, there is always a generation that will standout. Maybe the superfast was kind of magic but if the face is more than .830 Snedeker is screwed, it cannot be hotter than that or it is illegal. I currently have an R15, first TM drive since before rocketballz and that Fuji 661 is the best shaft I have ever hit. The head is on stock settings except I put the two weights at the bottom close together and in the middle. I think the R15 is a very good club, much better than any previous R series and heads and tails better than the SLDR which I couldn’t even hit. Thank God for Demos.

Hackers love other hackers that play beat up equipment… You hear it on the range, a mile away, clank clank clank clank, all of their craigslist bargins beating the crap out of each other. Put a little class and quality to your life, you are only here for little while. No one has talked about all those hack marks on the BOTTOM of the putter, that my friends comes from jamming a improperly hit club back into the bag HARD. This game is mental driven not equipment driven, just quit trashing up the world with your hacks. Believe me, He can play just as good of golf with clean undamaged equipment than he can with hacked up geezer sticks, his mind just wont let him and it feeds the minds of other hacks that would rather but Low T drugs than get a new putter. Keep clanking those clubs sh&tkickers, you will not beat me that is for sure unless we are in gravel.

      Putter: 1997 Cameron Newport Tei3
Irons: 1984 Orlimar Forged Blades – refinished 2014
Driver: R7 Quad TP B stamp
      3 wood: V steel
      wedges: 1988 Cleveland 588 ORIGINAL
      Handicap: ZERO
      Age: 54

I don’t buy Low T drugs and on Sundays, I don’t buy the drinks either. The point is if you take care of your equipment your equipment takes care of you. To think that PRETTY equals good in a game that is played in DIRT has never equated with me.

How did you get an old set of forged irons rechromed, with good conforming grooves?

How do you keep wedges from the 1980’s usable, without wearing out the grooves?

Want to hear a great story? Pretty much sums up my opinion of golf equipment in the past 20 years. So, I am in the quarter finals of the San Francisco City at Harding Park one year. I meet my opponent and here is a guy dressed in overalls and a wife beater tee shirt…AND a straw hat. Telling you he was straight out of HEE HAW! Then I notice he has 8 clubs in his bag! We play golf and I am 2 under par thru 16…and lose 3-1. Right then an there I realized that the club manufacture business is only after your money. Play what you like and play like you like to.

So now that golf media headlines are going to be proclaiming that Snedeker is winning millions with a “$30-dollar driver,” can we all take a deep breath and reflect?

Yes, a retail Superfast might go for $30 on the used market. And yes we all know in our heads that at $30, such a club might be a bargain and that at $399, the latest high end retail driver is probably a ripoff. Got it. We all knew that.

Let’s just all reflect on the fact that after Brandnt has spent hours on private ranges with $25k launch monitors and the best technicians in the world, being fitted for a $300 shaft, perhaps with several test shafts with different tipping specs and lengths, and a tour van able to bend and hotmelt a Superfast to Brandt’s precise preference…

It isn’t a $30 driver anymore. It is a driver with a nice old Taylormade head, with upwards of $10,000 worth of work behind it.

don’t forget the $400 shaft in that $30 head

Really cool to see tour players do stuff like this….just playing what they prefer. If a certain model (regardless of age/technology) looks pleasing to the eye, then why not play it? I also may be biased since most of the clubs in my bag were brought to market before 2011, lol…just can’t seem to find anything better. My whole set recently got stolen so it was a scavenger hunt looking for all the clubs I grew so fondly of. Anyways, good for sneds…I dig this move

    Feb 16, 2015 at 6:43 pm

Put a Diamana Ahina X in a brick and I can hit it pretty far (and maybe straight)… I’m still gaming a Callaway Razr Hawk Tour… since I’ve had it I’ve never even thought of changing. Ignoring the fact that Sned could be getting paid a lot of money for sporting a current model, I’d say he is smart playing with what he’s comfortable with, maybe he’d rather win? I won’t start on my hatred of adjustable clubs… but I had one of them for about a month and won’t ever again. It seems most of the Tour line stuff these days is sickeningly adjustable… maybe he doesn’t like it? I know I don’t.

Obviously no ordinary SuperFast, not with that shaft. As has often been said, the shaft is the engine and, if rumours about the SuperFast having a ‘hot’ face are true, it sure sounds like a great combination – at least it was for Sneds at Pebble Beach.

    Feb 16, 2015 at 4:36 pm

Kinda bad news for The Dark Side, TM. Guess they’ll have to change their strategy of bringing out new drivers once a year instead of twice. WTG Brandt. The driver wasn’t the main reason you won but it didn’t hurt. One bogey all weak and the GIR’s were excellent. Good to see you back my boy.

    • petie3_2

      Feb 16, 2015 at 10:01 pm

It’s not where the first ball lands, it’s where the second ball lands. You cannot par a hole usually with a drive, but you can sure screw one up. Occasionally play a round with irons only just to reset your reality levels.

  11. Super Dave

    Feb 16, 2015 at 3:19 pm

Always liked playing with clubs that are a few years out of date, and particularly enjoy occasionally putting a guy with this years everything , to shame. Or maybe seeing a guy with a new driver blast a few into the woods , borrow his driver, and dropping one down the middle. Priceless!

    Well done Brent!

I read somewhere here that this superfast has one of the hottest faces in golf, anyone know the specs on that fact?

    • Double Mocha Man

      Feb 16, 2015 at 3:25 pm

I have been playing the TP version (same as Snedeker’s) for the last 4 years. It has the slightly shallower head with a 5 degree open face over the regular Superfast driver. Very light club, very hot face. I have probably tried 20 other drivers (all brands) since 2010 with the caveat that if one can hit the ball longer than my Superfast, even if $800, I will buy it. Nothing has beaten it. As backup, I own three more from Ebay… one that Sned’s once used on the range but never took to the course. No, don’t ask.

    Feb 16, 2015 at 2:41 pm

You mean I don’t need the $400 driver with 100 different adjustments and variations you can make or the plugs you can turn up one way or down the other or metal pieces to slide around. I guess I’ll go practice with my old driver and use the money to play more golf. 🙂

The next time I read one of those articles about the price of golf keeping kids, working stiffs and minorities away from the game I’m going run down the writer (and his editor or boss who approved it) and beat them severely about the head and shoulders with a copy this article.
Although golf is pricey when compared to basketball in the school yard or sandlot football the cost to actually get into the game…the cost most of us actually spent to get into the game… is so exaggerated you have to wonder if the “golf writer” is purposely trying to drive people away or have some other agenda.
They’ll go on and on about the price of a driver is 500 bucks, 800 for a decent set of irons, 150 ea for two or three wedges, 55 dollars for a dozen balls and on and on and on until they tell us it cost 3000 dollars and who can afford that. The truth is, most of the golfers in this country are recreational, they got their start with hand me down clubs and a handful of used Pinnacles or perhaps bought a complete set of Northwesterns /bag from their buddy for thirty dollars and played in their first year or two, not wearing $400 alligator wing tips but a pair of old Chuck Taylors.
So, I’m going to at least hang on to this web address and the next writer who goes over the top about the cost to get into golf is going to get an email directing them to this WITB of the 2015 Pebble Beach winner.

    • petie3_2

      Feb 16, 2015 at 10:06 pm

I really think the best clubs overall were 2006-2009; older were prehistoric, newer are mostly cosmetic. Mine are Cobra S2s.

    • Dan C.

      Feb 17, 2015 at 9:39 pm

All the posted comments talk about his outdated driver and how it’s worth 30 bucks. The iron shafts are top of the line. They are worth nearly as much as the irons. Obviously it’s nice to see a pro like Snedecker using a driver that the average golfer might use but most can’t afford the shafts especially on his irons.

Sneds is one of my fave golfers. Not just because he is such a genuine and nice person, but because he doesn’t seem to get caught up what is the newest stuff. He plays what he is comfortable with and what has won with in the past. It’s a pleasure to see him win again.

Are those Superfasts adjustable? The driver says 8.5* on the side, but it’s being reported as 9.5*?

    • Carlos Danger

      Feb 16, 2015 at 10:50 am

its most likely been bent and opened up. alot of the old non adjustable tour issue heads are wide variation of lofts, lie, angle, open/shut, etc…than what the loft on the head states

  20. Golfraven

    Feb 16, 2015 at 7:46 am

It shows you that you don’t need the latest gear to play proper golf. I am sure he will not change his putter or setup any time soon – he made at least 15 Million $ with it. He must game this for the last decade. Sned is one of the best putters on tour and this win shows his class.

When we see great players having a hard time it just inforces how good you have to play day in and out to make it on the PGA Tour. Always nice to see someone use older equipment because it does what they want……I am a very strong believer in everyone playing what they want and can make work. Is buying new equipment make your game better maybe yes maybe no, but if it makes you feel good to have a certain club then it is well worth it.

    • MHendon

      Feb 16, 2015 at 1:23 pm

If anyone ever thought it was the arrow then they where just lying to themselves. Most Pro’s change their equipment regularly because they’re paid to.

    • West

      Feb 16, 2015 at 1:28 pm

Not sure I’m convinced, the reason he hasn’t switched or is adverse to switching equipment, is because he like his type of arrow so much…?

  27. Jonny B

    Feb 15, 2015 at 9:13 pm

Jim Furyk = CHOKE. One of the worst of all time. He doesn’t deserve hall of fame, and please please please don’t let him be on any more Ryder Cup teams.

    • RJ

      Feb 15, 2015 at 11:55 pm

Wow…. That’s harsh Jonny B. What have you won to be so high and mighty against Jim Furyk? Club Championship, City Am Tournaments, Qualified for any tournament as a Am or Professional? Remember this about the total body of work for Hall of Fame consideration, not week to week play! But I know your a first ballot selection…

      • Jonny B

        Feb 16, 2015 at 7:43 am

Apologist. Enabler. Other words to describe you… I call it like I see it, doesn’t matter my qualifications. Jim’s a choke – stick a fork in him please. Next!

        • Denis

          Feb 16, 2015 at 12:27 pm

FYI: Last 55 PGA 54-hole leaders “choked” as you call it. One day he will win again, if he keeps playing well as he has been.

    • Joe

      Feb 16, 2015 at 2:35 pm

I am not sure that you understand how golf works. The Golf HOF is full of people who choked way more than they didn’t. If not choking was a prerequisite there wouldn’t be anyone in it. And, lets face it, if he chokes a lot then he’s perfect for the US Ryder Cup team.

    • Doubleace

      Feb 16, 2015 at 3:01 pm

What happened Johnny B? Furyk refuse to give you an autograph? you sound like SOUR grapes. Fury I has proven he belongs on the tour, what have you proven?

    • petie3_2

      Feb 16, 2015 at 10:10 pm

IMHO, at his age, Jim gets tired after 14 or so holes and his complicated swing loses the precise tempo he needs to get the job done. His problems are usually the last 3-5 holes. Just sayin’

    • 1badbadger

      Feb 18, 2015 at 3:46 am

Does this make him a choker? Sure, not winning after leading thru three rounds 8 times in a row doesn’t seem impressive, but the reason this is a story is because he’s put himself in contention so often, similar to Greg Norman. Look at it this way…during this same stretch of time there are many players who NEVER held the 54 hole lead, and also didn’t win, but they don’t get labeled as chokers. If Furyk had shot the 74 in the first round instead of Sun, then went 64, 70, 63 everyone would be saying it was a gritty charge that came up short.

Just shows how fast equipment depreciated. It depreciated at a much faster rate than technology advances. A $400 driver is worth $50 max after 3 years. Best to wait a season, especially with TM equipment.

    • Mike H

      Feb 15, 2015 at 8:39 pm

Everything depreciates, who cares. I love when companies come out with new products, I try it and if I like it I buy it. Love the new R15, it’s fantastic, but I am sure you will find out next year how good this club is.

      • RG

        Feb 15, 2015 at 9:12 pm

Well if you give it some time and let the hype storm pass you tend to find out what “new” technology is viable and what is b.s. (like the square club revolution).

        • Mike H

          Feb 15, 2015 at 11:03 pm

Today it’s pretty easy to see if the product is an improvement from what you are playing with everyone having access to a flightscope or trackman. Back in the square driver days it was hard to find a good resoursce to prove if it was BS or not.

          • MHendon

            Feb 16, 2015 at 1:28 pm

The only resource that really matters weather a club is good or not is yourself. If it works for you then go with it.

One of the least flashy, “bargain bin” bag of woods on the PGA Tour. Irons and wedges are pure. Well done, Brandt.
