‘It’s next level. Mishit…dead straight folks!’ – Bryson raves over new Cobra driver

Published

on

Fresh from testing out Cobra’s new 3D Printed Prototype irons, Bryson DeChambeau has been trying out the company’s latest driver, and the Californian has been blown away by the early results.

On his YouTube channel, Bryson showcased yet another intense speed training session where he hit his long driver for the majority of the time. Towards the end, however, the 28-year-old unveiled Cobra’s new Prototype driver, and while close ups of the club were, of course, pixelated, DeChambeau did allow viewers an early look at him swinging the club.

Having hovered around 200mph ball speed (which he put down to a tired body) while using the long driver in the session, Bryson quickly exceeded that with the new driver and fired off a bomb that took him to 208mph even after having just hit 150 drives in quick succession.

Here’s what Bryson said on the driver as he hit it, and you can watch him in the video below, with the new driver introduced at the 7:40 mark.

“Holy shnikeys bro. I mean, with that amount of loft on it, because it’s not the right loft yet, that was 200mph ball speed not even trying, and I mishit it a little low on the face.

It’s next level. Mishit – dead straight folks!”

Bryson’s good friend and Long Drive champ Kyle Berkshire also hit the new driver from Cobra, and after reaching 214mph on his first shot, went onto hit more balls, and this is what Bryson had to say after seeing Berkshire test the new club:

“So, under 300RPMs of sidespin, either right or left, it’s pretty much going in the fairway. Obviously, with how far we’re hitting you might be missing it a little bit, but that’s probably a 20 yard miss to the right. That’s insane.

Guys, that’s what I’ve been saying; that’s what we’re trying to build. Drivers are not built right, and they are finally getting built right. That sums it up when you’ve got Kyle hitting it that friggin’ straight with that driver. Driver is disgusting!”

Bryson DeChambeau yells at grown man to return golf ball to kid at PGA Championship

Published

on

On Sunday at the PGA Championship, Bryson DeChambeau came one shot shy of winning his second major championship.

Plenty of Bryson’s skills were on display, such as his ability to reach 196mph ball speed on his drives and his underrated short game.

Another aspect of Bryson that was shown on Sunday was his likeability, which to some fans, is a new phenomenon.

At one point during his round on the back nine, DeChambeau flipped a ball in the stands to a kid, but it was intercepted by a grown man who took off running with the ball.

DeChambeau screamed “Hey!” for the man to stop and demanded that the ball be given back to the kid it was intended for.

Fans are certainly beginning to embrace DeChambeau and are realizing how good he is for the game of golf.

Butch Harmon reveals what he worked on with Rory McIlroy during visit earlier this year

Published

on

While speaking on the “Son of a Butch” Podcast, legendary swing coach Butch Harmon revealed what he worked on with Rory McIlroy when the four-time major champion went to visit him after the Players Championship this season.

“The work I did with him wasn’t a tremendous amount of changing what he did, it was his attitude and the way he played certain shots. From 150 yards and in he made a full swing like he was hitting a driver and I wanted him to make more 3 quarter swings and chop the follow through off a little. He’s a very high ball hitter, but with short irons high balls aren’t good, it’s hard to control, we wanted to bring the ball flight down.”

The work certainly seemed to help McIlroy, as he went on to win the Zurich Classic alongside Shane Lowry and the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow in back-to-back starts.

Rory will now tee it up at Valhalla for the PGA Championship, which is the site of his most recent major victory in 2014.

Brandel Chamblee says this technological development was key to Phil Mickelson winning major championships

Published

on

While speaking with GolfWRX, Golf Channel’s Brandel Chamblee shared that he believes the solid core golf ball helped Phil Mickelson win major championships.

“One of the consequences of the solid core golf ball coming around was it put the straightest of hitters in the rough.

“Phil started winning majors in 2004, I don’t think that’s any coincidence. I think he started winning majors after the solid core golf ball came along and put everybody in the rough.

“And so [Phil] is like ‘I got you in the rough, I’m going to kick your a**. This is my game. I’ve been in the rough my whole career. I can go over trees, through trees, around trees.’

“Because he’s got that amazing creativity and Phil is an underrated iron player, phenomenal iron player. Great, great great out of the trouble. If you put the top-40 players on a list and ranked them in terms of accuracy, he would be 40th.

“So, I think that was one of the consequences of the solid core golf balls was it allowed Phil to win major championships.”

Mickelson went on to win the Masters in 2004 as well as five additional majors from 2004-2021 including three total Masters, two PGA Championships, and an Open Championship.
