Callaway launches Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond Max driver

Published

on

Give me a Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond driver but make it Max. Callaway engineers have taken the tour staple triple diamond head and boosted its size from 450 to 460cc’s. “By doing that we’ve created a more forgiving head while still keeping the same great shape that’s beloved on tour,” said Callaway’s advanced R&D manager Nick Yontz. The driver offers more spin than Triple Diamond standard — and thus more workability and forgiveness.

In contrast to the standard Triple Diamond, which features 14 and two-gram weights. The Ai Smoke Triple Diamond Max is equipped with 10-gram and four-gram interchangeable weights, which contributes to greater overall stability. According to Callaway, the driver plays more neutral than the neutral-to-fade-bias Triple Diamond.

Discussing testing on tour, Nick Yontz, advanced R&D manager, said:

“We first brought this head out for Tour testing in November last year. Players would step up and we had it matched up to their gamer driver specs. They would swing, and we saw consistently good ball flights – very stable. It was the word ‘stable’ that continued to be used by players.”

“They would continue to split the fairway and what that caused them to do was to start swinging faster. They had this excitement that, ‘This thing doesn’t go offline. I can keep swinging harder and harder and it maintains that straight flight’”

“We were seeing players. that would have small gains in ball speed from just the driver head alone, but then the swing speed would increase the more and more swings they made. By the end of it, they really saw meaningful gains in ball speed and distance.”

As a refresher on the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke driver family — which now includes Paradym Ai Smoke Max, Paradym Ai Smoke Max D, Paradym Smoke Max Fast, Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond, and Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond Max — check out our launch piece.

So they call it the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond Max.

Sounds like an NFL play call. Did Peyton Manning sign with the Callaway marketing department?

I’ve literally just bought a triple diamond but would have bought this if I’d known. What a joke

These surprise launches are a gut punch to many that have already bought a trip diamond or a max.

Callaway must be struggling. This has all the signs of a tactic to hit their Q2 sales target. These drivers will probably ship out to stores and invoice on May 31st. Quick way to make an extra $3 to $5 million. It’s a risky decision though since they’re forcing retailers to stock it when the buying season is almost over. I would imagine the retailers are less than thrilled.

Luke Clanton WITB 2024 (July)

Driver: Titleist TSR2 (8 degrees, B1 SureFit setting)
Shaft: Mitsubishi Kai’li White 70 TX

Mini driver: TaylorMade BRNR Mini Driver (13.5 degrees)
Shaft: Project X HZRDUS Black 70 TX

Driving iron: TaylorMade Stealth UDI (2)
Shaft: Fujikura Ventus Black HB 10 TX

Irons: TaylorMade P770 (3), P760 (4-6), P7MB (7-9)
Shafts: Nippon N.S. Pro Modus3 Tour 130 X

Wedges: TaylorMade MG4 (46, 50, 54, 58)
Shafts: Nippon N.S. Pro Modus3 Tour 125 X

Putter: TaylorMade Spider GT

Clanton on his iron setup: “I love the blades with the low irons because I can kind of feel a little more around the greens, and if I have a little feely shot from like 150 I can hit a 7 iron there,” Clanton said. “It’s one of those things where I like to feel a little more with the lower irons. Then with the upper irons I like a little bit more forgiveness, especially when you’re hitting it from 210. You don’t really want a blade looking down at the ground, so it’s been a great setup for awhile.”

Clanton on his TaylorMade BRNR Mini Driver:  “My favorite club in my bag is my BRNR Mini Driver. This club has been a life saver off the tee, and off the deck, as well…the first week I ever put it in was actually at Cherry Hills for the U.S. Am. I think it was literally right when they came out with the Mini Driver, and a bunch of my teammates said I never liked 3-wood because I never hit it, and it was true. I hit this [mini driver] off the deck a couple times and it flew perfect. Then I was like, ‘Let’s hit it off the tee,’ and it was flying 285-290 off the tee. I was like this thing is pretty sweet. I’ve kept it in the bag ever since then, and no matter if it’s off a tight lie out of the rough, anything, it’s been awesome. I think it’s probably one of the better clubs I’ve ever received from TaylorMade.

“…I could take out the driver and have the BRNR in and still play well all week. It’s just one of those golf clubs you can hit it off the tee and still hit it far, I can draw it, cut it, hit it low, hit it high. It’s definitely one of my favorites for sure… I don’t think it’ll ever come out of the bag. I really don’t. It’s one of those golf clubs that I absolutely love.”
