Harry Potter fans will love Chase Johnson’s unique “Ravenclaw” divot tool

Published

Chase Johnson is stealing the hearts of golf fans (and Harry Potter lovers!) this week at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

The 27-year-old professional golfer from Ohio won the third annual John Shippen Invitational – an event that hosts Black pros and amateurs from across the world – on Sunday at Detroit Golf Club to earn a spot in the Rocket Mortgage (and pocket the $20K prize).

“I really worked hard the last year and a half to fine tune some things since I lost my Korn Ferry card, and it’s been paying off over and over again,” Johnson said in a press conference on Tuesday. “Honestly, the last year I’ve gotten a lot of support from my parents, my fiancée and a lot of close-knit people that I’m in constant contact with. They know who they are. It’s been a long journey since I lost my card and we’re on the up and up and I’m excited to be back and have another chance.”

Johnson then continued his memorable week by making the cut on Friday, and PGA Tour cameras were there to capture the heart-warming moments with his family after making his first-ever PGA Tour cut. Check out the video embedded below:

On Wednesday, prior to Rocket Mortgage, GolfWRX.com and the PGA Tour caught up with Johnson to check out the equipment he has in the bag.

As we uncovered, the Cobra staffer uses Cobra’s Rev33 RF Proto copper-colored blade irons that were designed specifically for Rickie Fowler. Funny enough, Fowler no longer uses the irons himself, which makes Johnson the only PGA Tour player currently using the eye-catching iron models.

As Johnson explains in the video above, he also recently switched into a Cobra King Prototype 7-wood with rails added to the sole for better turf interaction (fellow Cobra staffer Gary Woodland also began employing the prototype fairway wood head at the 2023 PGA Championship).

GolfWRX didn’t just get a look at Johnson’s clubs, though. He also showed off his lucky ball marker from St. Andrews, and his custom Harry Potter-inspired “Ravenclaw” divot tool.

Ravenclaws are known for their intelligence, creativity, and wisdom. Apparently, Ravenclaws are also known for making cuts in PGA Tour events, too.

Spotted: Project X Denali hybrid shaft

Published

on

Project X’s Denali wood shafts have been seen in more and more golf bags this year as we start off the season. As a refresher, Denali Blue is the mid-launch and mid-spin model while Denali Black is for players seeking lower launch and spin.

Denali combines great feel with stability and increased ball speed. Currently, Project X only offers Denali Blue and Black in wood shafts, but we spotted a hybrid shaft in Daniel Berger’s bag at the 2024 Zurich Classic.

The shaft looks to be a Denali Blue 105G – HY in TX flex. No word on details from Project X yet but we can assume that this is a mid-launching shaft that weighs around 105 grams in Tour X-Stiff flex.

Berger has this shaft in his TaylorMade P770 3-iron, likely for some added launch and spin to hold the green from longer distances.

Hopefully, this means we will see some more shafts coming under the Denali name in the future, as I think many of us would like to try one in a hybrid or utility iron!
