Why did you change clubs and did it make a difference? – GolfWRXers discuss
In our forums, our members have been discussing the impact a change of clubs has had on their game. WRXer ‘Nev Adams’ kicks off the thread, saying
“Been flip flopping on new clubs, I hit mine fine, but could new clubs really make a difference? Playing JPX 900 forged irons now, and I seem to hit them low. ( I actually used MP-20’s for a few range sessions and hit them higher)
While I am getting better and plan to be a 5 handicap next season I wonder if new irons will really help.
What made you get new irons, and how did they help?”
And our members have been sharing their thoughts and experiences in our forum.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- klbcec: “Went from Mizuno blades for the better part of two decades to Z785s. Helped me because at 56, I no longer have the swing speed to get ideal elevation in the long irons with blade.”
- AngryGilmore: “I went from a Ping G15 to a Ping i210 because my game simply outgrew the G15s. G15 is a great game improvement iron and is very easy to hit, but I wasn’t holding greens and was losing strokes because of it.”
- OsnolaKinnard: “I changed because I lost a bunch of muscle and swing speed due to illness…switched shafts in my driver, new 3 wood, new hybrids, old blade irons with regular flex. Yes…made a huge difference…much less effort to make the ball go, ball flight is more consistent, and I am enjoying the game a lot more.”
- sm_watts: “I have finally given up chasing the latest and greatest that have never made a real difference in my scores. I had three different iron sets alone last summer. So I’m going back to Ping Eye 2+ BeCu’s. They are easy to hit, the copper looks as cool as anything, they may not have the most forgiveness on off-center hits, but they’re not bad. If they aren’t going to change my scores, I’m going to play the clubs that put a smile on my face when I look down at them.”

Spotted: Titleist GTS USWO headcovers
GolfWRX Tour Photographer Greg Moore was at Riviera Country Club this last week in Los Angeles for the U.S. Women’s Open. While browsing the photos, I spotted a recent major trend in headcovers. That is, the Titleist GTS headcover line expands the majors theme.
Seen on the bag of Natalia Guseva were the red, white, and blue Titleist GTS covers. This is the third time we have seen limited-edition Titleist major covers, the others being at the Masters and the PGA Championship. But with the launch of the GTS line back at the Texas Children’s Houston Open in March, this is the first time we have seen Titleist come out with major themed head covers for the season (driver headcovers through hybrids).
Check out some photos below.

At the Masters, we saw the familiar Masters green, white, and yellow. While the PGA Championship design was colors synonymous with the Philadelphia Eagles NFL team. This shows the season major drops continue full steam ahead for major OEMs. New opportunities for each major for designs and themes, and who knows, maybe a lucky spark for a player and a major championship for their resume. It gets the wheels turning for what major theme headcover you would keep on your bag for the whole season!
