New for 2021, Srixon/Asics unveils GEL-Course Ace golf shoe

Published

on

Srixon has today introduced a new golf footwear model in partnership with Asics North America – the GEL-Course Ace golf shoe.

Asics golf shoes are built with inspiration from Asics’ running shoes and are designed to deliver comfort and flexibility, while also providing maximum traction and stability.

The new addition from Srixon/Asics features lightweight frame work and flexibility through an Air mesh which aims to provide flexibility during the swing and while walking the golf course. The shoes also contain Flyte Foam, which is designed to offer lightweight shock absorption along with excellent durability.

The spikeless golf shoe contains a flexible mesh for comfort, while the thin PU and waterproof lining will make sure your feet stay dry in wet conditions.

The shoe features an air mesh at vamp with an integrated quarter panel to provide a supportive fit, while an internal molded heel counter aims to secure optimal foot support. Additional ankle padding is also designed to help ensure a custom fit that adapts to every move.

The FG traction sole pattern on the GEL-Course Ace golf shoe aims to place spikes exactly where players need stability and traction while walking the course. Rearfoot GEL cushioning is also included in a bid to reduce impact and increase shock absorption. At the same time, Toe and Lateral rubber wraps are designed to help maintain balance throughout the golf swing.

Speaking on the new addition, Mike Powell, President of Sales and Marketing at Srixon/Cleveland Golf/XXIO stated

“The Srixon/ASICS partnership has been tremendous for both our brands. Asics is a huge global sports brand and widely recognized as the leader in performance footwear. We’re excited to launch the new GEL-Course ACE. This shoe will provide the legendary performance of Asics running shoes and the waterproof protection you need when conditions on the course aren’t perfect.”

In addition to the release of the new GEL-Course Ace, Srixon/Asics has announced the introduction of four new color options for the GEL-Course Glide: Sheet Rock/White and peacoat/Glacier Grey for Men’s shoes and Black/Rose Gold and Glacier Grey/Pure Silver for women’s shoes. The GEL-Course Glide shoes will now retail for $99.99

Rickie Fowler’s new putter: Standard-length Odyssey Jailbird 380 in custom orange

Published

on

Editor’s note: This is an excerpt from a piece our Andrew Tursky originally wrote for PGATour.com’s Equipment Report. Head over there for the full article.

…The Jailbird craze hasn’t really slowed down in 2024, either. According to Odyssey rep Joe Toulon, there are about 18-20 Jailbird putter users on the PGA TOUR.

Most recently, Akshay Bhatia won the 2024 Valero Texas Open using a broomstick-style Odyssey Jailbird 380 putter and Webb Simpson is switching into a replica of that putter at the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship.

Now, Fowler, who essentially started the whole Jailbird craze, is making a significant change to his putter setup.

Fowler, who has had a couple weeks off since the 2024 RBC Heritage, started experimenting with a new, custom-orange Jailbird 380 head that’s equipped with a standard 35-inch putter build, rather than his previous 38-inch counter-balanced setup.

According to Fowler, while he still likes the look and forgiveness of his Jailbird putter head, he’s looking to re-incorporate more feel into his hands during the putting stroke.

He told GolfWRX.com on Tuesday at the Wells Fargo Championship that the 38-inch counterbalanced setup “served its purpose” by helping him to neutralize his hands during the stroke, but now it’s time to try the standard-length putter with a standard-size SuperStroke Pistol Tour grip to help with his feel and speed control.

Although Fowler was also spotted testing standard-length mallets from L.A.B. Golf and Axis1 on Tuesday, he confirmed that the custom Odyssey Jailbird 380 is the putter he’ll use this week at the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship.
