What GolfWRXers are saying about playing 10-year-old clubs

In our forums, our members have been discussing older clubs after WRXer ‘gdb99’ created a thread dedicated to finding out if there is much of a downside to playing decade-old clubs. Our members have been having their say with lots of interesting views presented.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • pozzit: “Yea I picked up a set of MP33s for some fun testing and as long as you get something that fits your specs well, you can get something that treats you well. Like others have mentioned lofts may be weaker than-new some weighting may be different with forgiveness but if you’re moving to more players clubs, you’re expecting less forgiveness anyway.”
  • exOdus: “10-year-old irons might not conform to the groove rule from 2010 which may or may not be an issue for you.”
  • Kentendo: “Zero. Other than the groove rule, as ex0dus stated, you will be good to go. I say go for it. I still play 20-year-old technology in Ping I3’s, but I don’t play professionally.”
  • jplroper: “What’s wrong with 10-year-old clubs? The fact that they are not as proven as 20-year-old clubs. Does the gain in technology surpass the familiarity of what you are playing now? That’s a tough question, some people are playing junk, and some clubs don’t fit their fit profile, but if they where good clubs that worked 10 years ago[or longer] they should be fine.”
  • golfpros1: “Nothing wrong with any club. But sometimes you’re giving up some performance by not upgrading.”

Still bag a set of DCI 990’s. I’m sure newer clubs, with much advanced technology would help my game, but they are like and old friend that I look forward to seeing. I do ,however, have one of those new-fangled adjustable drivers. A 915d2. ????
