New Accra TZ5 and TZ6 shafts feature “lower spin results than ever before”

Published

on

Accra’s TZ5 and TZ6 Shafts proved to be very popular amongst our members when they were showcased on our forums earlier this year, and new details of the shafts have now been released, with the company putting an emphasis on the word “feel” when it comes to the new additions.

The TZ5 shaft features a smooth mid-section and lower balance point which aims to provide players with maximum feel, while its lower torque than its predecessors looks to decrease spin significantly. The shaft targets those possessing very high swing speeds who are looking to reduce spin for greater control.

The TZ6 shaft, described by the company as a “spin-killing machine,” features a mid to high launch, with a focus on its ultra-responsive tip section. The new shaft from Accra combines a 2.0 torque with a powerful tip section, and the company has stated that with feel in mind, the tip is softer than some of their lightweight shafts.

With a higher launch and consistent flight a priority, Gawain Robertson, co-owner and founder of PGMC/Accra, stated

“In the softer flexes, the TZ6 is for the person that needs some help getting the ball in the air, but as you get to stiffer flexes, the torque starts dropping and it becomes more of a players shaft.

“So it sort of transitions from a shaft that helps the average guy get the ball in the air to a shaft that helps a tour guy get the ball in the air with low spin.”

The shafts which are being gamed by high-profile Tour players like Cameron Champ, Jason Day and Tony Finau are available now. Accra’s TZ5 Shaft is available in 60-90 gram driver shaft weights and as a 95-gram hybrid option. The TZ6 comes in 50-90-gram driver shaft option weights and as an 85-gram hybrid option.

What are they made of, and how did they get the numbers?
Another company who isn’t up front and honest about their materials and how they make them.
And so we’re back to the the low-torque thing again are we, that companies like Aldila and Grafalloy had figured out a couple decades ago.

What a stupid comment, you clearly know nothing about shafts.

Toulon Golf collaborates with Valhalla Golf Club for latest Small Batch putter

Published

on

Toulon Golf has today officially announced its latest Small Batch putter — the Valhalla.

Discussing the putter, Preston Toulon of Toulon Golf said: “This putter is a collaboration with the club at Valhalla and incorporates three of the many things that make the state of Kentucky great – horseracing, bourbon and championship golf. The head of the putter and headcover have several allusions to a jockey’s silk and there are thoroughbreds on the sole.”

Inspired by Toulon’s classic tri-sole Santa Monica design, the company sought to modernize the profile and design leveraging its 904 stainless steel and 6061 aircraft aluminium across the sole. Toulon describes the Valhalla’s profile as “slightly oversized blade whose proportions are meticulously balanced to maintain the look and feel of the Santa Monica, while increasing the putter’s inertia to create one of the most forgiving putters we have ever designed.”

Throughout numerous prototypes, Toulon paid particular attention to the L-neck, with its full shaft of offset, adding a bit of length for better blending with the slightly wider and longer blade.

On the rear of the putter are homages to horse racing in the form of jockey silk diamonds and Churchill Downs-inspired font.

The sole of the putter features a large cavity covered by a 6061 aircraft aluminum sole plate. According to Toulon, this allowed for the addition length to the putter and improved inertia as well as moving more mass to the perimeter for greater forgiveness.

In another nod to Valhalla, Toulon uses a milled watermarked limestone pattern, a reference to stone featured widely on the property.

As with all the Toulon Small Batch putters, the team paid particular attention to the topline thickness and radius to achieve a desired look. “Soft yet crisp was the design intent,” according to the company.
