Forum Thread of the Day: “Old or new, what are the best hybrids?”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from turfantim, who asks fellow GolfWRX members for their opinion on what they feel are the best hybrid clubs out there, whether they be a newer release or not. As always, our members display a diverse taste, with a mix of modern and older models getting a mention.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Striker Ace: “Nike covert 2.0. I think I paid $79.”
  • Backsidefloater: “Recently purchased a used Callaway apex hybrid which seems to go straight compared to my older F7 which seemed to look closed at address.”
  • jah7838: “Adams Super 9031 for me.  It’s the longest-tenured club in my bag, and I don’t know if I’ll ever get rid of it.  I’m trying different loft combinations for my hybrids, so it’s currently out of the bag, but it might not be for long.”
  • mattwood: “Callaway Razr X Tour hybrid 18* has always been point and shoot for me.  I really like the head profile as it has a tapered end and is less bulky looking like some other hybrids.  It also has a very neutral setup so draws and fades are both possible, and it is very long.”

Don’t laugh but the Cleveland Mashie was just amazing!!!! Raw finish, spooonish looking head. Why did I get rid of them?

Adams LS 19 degree – my 5 wood replacement. Launches high with a 220-225 carry. Callaway Apex 23 degree – 4 iron replacement. 200 carry, straight and penetrating. Looks square at address while most hybrids look closed. Also have a Adams Pro 23 degree in the closet – but I like the Apex more off the grass.

Tour Edge Exotics Cb Pro U is the best hybrid I’ve ever owned. Just bought a second to keep as a back up.

Current design hybrids are just a spin-off of The Perfect Club promoted by Peter Kessler on the Golf Channel many years ago. Remember? Everybody laughed but now they are the normal hackers clubs… upright lie and shorter shafts.
