Steve Stricker doesn’t think Tiger Woods is doing well physically

Published

on

Steve Stricker doesn’t sound as though he expects to see Tiger Woods in action anytime soon.

Regarding what he saw from his friend at the Dubai Desert Classic early last month, Stricker said, “Just the way he was walking didn’t look quite right. Walking very gingerly. Slow and methodical. It didn’t really look physically like he was ready to play.”

Per ESPN’s Bob Harig, Stricker has been in contact with Woods as he recovers from reported back spasms. “He’s working hard at it. But I don’t think he’s doing that well physically,” Sticker said about his Presidents Cup vice-captain’s status.

Woods’ agent, Mark Steinberg, said Friday that there are no updates on his client’s condition.

Woods returned to action at the Hero World Challenge in December after a 16-month layoff. According to Harig, Stricker was pleased with Woods’ freer swing. He was less encouraged by Woods’ action at the Farmers Insurance Open, where Tiger missed the cut, and the Dubai Desert Classic, where Woods withdrew after his opening round.

Certainly, next week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational would have been a fixture on a healthy Tiger Woods’ calendar, and it is traditionally his last action before the Masters.

Woods is yet to commit to the event and has until Friday to do so. If he misses Bay Hill, he could only conceivably play the Puerto Rico Open (March 23-26) or the Shell Houston Open (March 30-April 2) before the Masters. Both possibilities are extremely remote.

Take it from Stricker’s tone or Steinberg’s lack of updates, but it seems that even if we’re going to see Tiger Woods at the Masters, we won’t see him in action before that.

The Presidents Cup captain also offered this bit of wisdom on injuries in golf generally.

“If he’s not able to swing the way he wants to swing or has the power, the game can be pretty tough,” Stricker said. “It’s amazing, you need every fiber of your body. If your big toe is hurting you can have an issue. It’s crazy. You need to be healthy. If not it’s a tough game.”

Indeed.

Tiger cannot be considered greatest ever. Everyone says golf is a marathon, not a sprint.
To continue that thought, Tiger may have played the first 14 holes better than anyone else, but he fell apart on the last four.
    What he could have been……

Tiger is an enigma wrapped in a conundrum. As one of his greatest admirers, it seems the end is nigh. But the fighter in him wont give up If this latest failed comeback has taught us anything, it’s that the 17-month R&R did nothing for him. Hard to believe, but I remember Muhammad Ali fighting Larry Holmes and Willie Mays falling down swinging at curve balls. The end in sports is never pretty and often cruel.

      Dennis,
I 100% agree about Tiger at this point in his playing career for the exact reasons that you specified. Tiger’s spirit is still willing but physically he is done and dusted. He may well have been the best golfer ever but 100 years from now when the witnesses are gone Jack and his record will still rule.

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons

In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.

For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • btyh: “Holy offset.”
  • Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
  • bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing

Published

on

As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.

Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.
