Arnold Palmer dies at 87
Golf legend Arnold Palmer died on Sunday in Pittsburgh due to complications with heart problems. “The King” was 87.
Palmer was a seven-time major champion, 62-time PGA Tour winner, and a member of the original “Big Three,” which consisted of Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player. As golf’s first megastar, he is credited with bringing the sport to the masses.
In 1974, Palmer was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame, and he remained an influential force in the golf world for another four decades. Palmer is also known for his work as a businessman, philanthropist, course designer and host of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, a PGA Tour event played each March.
Our thoughts go out to his family, friends, and all who were inspired by Arnold Palmer.

(2/2) It’s hard to imagine golf without you or anyone more important to the game than the King.

With all due respect to founder Joe Gibbs I've always said the Golf Channel would not have worked without Arnold Palmer being involved.

Photos from the 2024 PGA Championship
GolfWRX is on site this week at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, for the PGA Championship.
While we see fewer equipment changes and new gear seeding at major championships, we get a look at custom gear and looks into the bags of players we rarely see, which is just as exciting. In the case of the PGA Championship, this means a look at the gear some of the PGA Professionals who qualified for the tournament will be gaming, and LIV players, such as Jon Rahm and Patrick Reed.
Check out links to all our albums from Valhalla below and check back throughout the week as we continue to update.

I met Mr. Palmer every year at The Masters when I was a kid. My uncle ran one of the most prominant leader boards with the 2 side wings for current & next pair. He signed me up every year for a ‘Scorer’s Badge and I’d work up on the board changing the names on the wing.
From 71-76 he signed my new white Masters hat at the practice green every year. He knew my uncle as one of the ‘old guard ‘of Tournament Volunteers. He’d been stationed & retired from Ft Gordon since returning from Korea.
In 77 I was ‘too cool’ to be one of the ‘kids with the hats’. As he left the green I was right at the gate while he started signing. I just smiled at him, he looked right at me and with a Santa-like twinkle & smile said “no hat this year Jim?”
All the people there looked at me (for a second) with amazment…Boy, was I the coolest cat in that circle (certain
I changed color).
No doubt he read my name from the Scorer’s Badge, but, It WAS the same feeling an incredulous 7 yr old would’ve had meeting face to face with the REAL SANTA Claus.
Thank you Mr Palmer for a lifetime of smiles, thrills entertainment and love.

ARNOLD PALMER WAS MY FIEND AND A FRIEND TO THOUSANDS OF GOLFERS AND FANS. HE TOUCHED MY LIFE AND I WAS ONE OF THE REALLY LUCKY ONES TO HAVE KNOWN HIM AND PLAYED SEVERAL ROUNDS OF GOLF WITH HIM. HE GAVE ME 4 A SIDE FOR $100 AND IT WAS A GOOD MATCH. I THINK HE WAS STILL THE WINNER IN CLOSE DUELS. WE LAUGHED A LOT AND KIDDED EACH OTHER. HE WAS 6 YEARS MY SENIOR.

A true gentleman in life and in the game. Your character and love for the game will be missed. I just hope that your grace and humility rubs off on the younger generations in all sports.

I was playing Bay Hill some years back and finished the front nine around 1pm. I went to the halfway house and was in line waiting to grab a bite. I heard these guys yelling from the the first tee: “Let’s go AP, you’re on the tee”. I turned around and Arnold was standing behind me in line…I said, “Arnie, please feel free to go ahead so you can join your group”. “Nope, he said, you’re ahead of me, go right ahead”.

I got Arnie’s autograph in 1959 when I was 10 years old. No crowd, just him and me. Even at that young age I was aware that this maybe the nicest man I had ever met. That’s why he was The King.

Like most everyone else in the golf world, I will greatly miss the smiling face of this true icon. His tireless efforts to broaden the reach of the game in such a classy manner, set a great example for all who play. Thank you Arnold Palmer. May you sincerely rest in peace.

Nobody EVER lived a fuller life than Arnold Palmer…because most of the time he thought of others and what they’d done for him, not the other way around. He was a great man who’ll never be forgotten. I’m so happy to have lived in his time and got to see him being the King. RIP.

He replied to everyone who ever wrote him a letter, that says greatness to me. Legend is an overused word, but not in Mr Palmer’s case. RIP.

A true legend and the King. He changed the game for the professionals following him. IMG was even created with a handshake deal between Arnold and McCormick. His impact on the game of golf will be felt forever. Should rename the FedEx Cup the Palmer FedEx Cup I believe.

This is a personal tragedy. My condolences to the family.
I think all of you should think of what the King did for refugees from Syria.

Dude, wtf? Keep the politics out of golf. I don’t care what Arnold Palmer did or did not do for whatever reffugees. I care about his sportsmanship and he was the best. A dude legend!

‘Tis a beautiful, sunny day in the Pacific Northwest. I played golf this morning. The Mariners won. The Seahawks won. But it is a sad day. Arnold Palmer has passed away. I did get to see him in person as a kid and feel blessed for that. He certainly defined the greatness and excitement of golf. A Lee Trevino quote I just read said, “When Arnie was on the course and a roar went up I didn’t know if he had just made a birdie or was hitching up his pants.” Long live the King!
I think I need an Arnold Palmer… with several shots of rum.
