FTF: Are you Team Scotty or Team Bettinardi?

Published

on

The GolfWRX forums exist so golfers have access to the latest equipment releases, hottest discussions, real equipment reviews, best instruction, new technologies and everything golf you can imagine. So if you love golf, the GolfWRX forums are your sanctuary.

In the From the Forums weekly feature, we bring you the hottest, most buzz-worthy topics from our forums for your convenience. I’ll be your trusty tour guide to navigate the latest buzz. Here’s a peek behind the curtain into golf’s sanctuary.

Team Scotty vs. Team Betti

BettinardiWyndham

One of golf equipment’s eternal debates: Are you a Scotty Cameron loyalist or a Bettinardi enthusiast? The two biggest names in premium putter manufacturing each have their own cult followings with their own rationales for devotion. Both brands produce phenomenal flatsticks. But where do your loyalties lies?

Talk it out, find brothers-in-arms in this thread.

Display your divot tool

tjchamp-divot-tool

User TheSean beings this thread facetiously: “I need to up my divot tool game for ultra low scores. What are y’all gaming?” Now, TheSean is right to identify the strong correlation between a a sweet divot-repairing device and birdies galore because, as we all know, the subconscious mind will compel a player to hit more greens so that he makes more ball marks and thus needs to show off the tool more often… But really, some awesome tools in this thread.

Check them out: And while you’re at it, ponder why we don’t call them “ball mark tools.”

Wearing out forged irons

Callaway_Apex_Pro_irons_PW_face

User Bigmean poses the question: “For you guys that wear out the faces of forged sets…how many freaking balls do you hit?” Great question. We’ve all seen the photos of Tiger’s iron from 2005. How many thousands of balls does it take to get to that point (admittedly with more varied distribution than the Striped One, most likely)?

See what WRXers had to say.

Stolen club odyssey (not to be confused with “stolen club: Odyssey”) and disenchantment with the game

User UTkochster leads off a long-read of a forum post with how having his clubs stolen from the trunk of his car (understandably) derailed his hard-won progress as a golfer. The club theft inspired/coincided with a general disenchantment with the game for the American expat living in the UK, as the elite world of membership in private clubs irked him.

His points are worth considering, and the responses worth reading, because they are representative of what industry consultants have been saying: The perception of exclusivity (even though rounds at private clubs make up only a small portion of annual rounds played) hurts the game.

Many other great putter makers out there as well. I rolling a custom tp mills right now. Bought on ebay for $200.00 its a anser 4/ newport 2.5 or 1.5 style with a welded flow neck. I was looking this similar putter style on the bay found the tp mills and it was only 20 minutes from my house. also already had my initials on the toe and Mills spelled his name with two upside down 7 7 for the LL in mills and 7-7 is my birthday. Crazy the chances of that. Stars were aligned in my favor that day. Byron Morgan putter company in California also making awesome putters. You can order a German stainless steel probably 1/6 the price of a Cameron. And lets not forget Tad Moore knows a thing or two about milled putters. Karsten Solheim started it but Scotty real did make the designs alot more precise. Dont like the milled ping putters ping has out today grips always come crooked and just seems to be a lack of quality control. Ping should invest in a more custom putter part to there factory probably sell alot more of them.

Been on both Team Bettinardi and Scotty at one time or another. But now Im back on Team Wilson 8802 for the last 5 years, putting is best it’s ever been. Clean, elegant lines, with amazing feel. The putter will tell you if you can roll the rock. Catch it!

I’m also one who has both but I not use the 8802 it’s far better than either of the others !! Try one you will switch. The balance ,feel and distance with less swing effort is something the others can’t match. Consider , it goes farther with less effort and has a much better feel.

Bettinardi for me. But, I’m just interested in creative putter design, effect or not. What i game and what I like to window shop or oggle at are two different things. I game a Bettinardi now but could use a Low Tide or even some new Odyssey designs as well. Scotty is a cult thing now and his designs are lame.

Most forgiving players irons? – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing players irons. WRXer ‘NorthTXGolf’ is on the hunt for some new irons but is putting a priority on forgiveness, and has reached out to fellow members who have been sharing their thoughts and advice on the subject in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Sam217: “i230 has got to be one of the most forgiving players irons available. Cobra King Tour another. Don’t sleep on the New Level 480 DB coming out soon.”
  • RangeBaller: “ZX5/ZX7 and i230 should definitely be in your testing pool.”
  • YAMS49: “Another I210 homie here… Very highly recommended if you want/need spin and a consistent yardage.”
  • golf-RN: “I second the Cobra King Tour irons. I am not the greatest ballstriker by any stretch of the imagination and I find the King Tours very forgiving. Toe strikes might lose 5 or 6 yards with no directional loss. You definitely feel the miss though lol but mishits from the center aren’t punished too hard regarding distance.”

What’s the perfect mini-driver/shaft combo? – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Mini-Drivers and accompanying shafts. WRXer ‘JamesFisher1990’ is about to purchase a BRNR Mini and is torn on what shaft weight to use, and our members have been sharing their thoughts and set ups in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • PARETO: “New BRNR at 13.5. Took it over to TXG (Club Champ but TXG will always rule) in Calgary for a fit. Took the head down to 12, stuck in a Graphite Design AD at 3 wood length and 60g. Presto- numbers that rivaled my G430Max but with waaaaay tighter dispersion. Win.”
  • driveandputtmachine: “Still playing a MIni 300.  The head was only 208, so I ordered a heavier weight and play it at 3 wood length.  I am playing a Ventus Red 70.   I play 70 grams in my fairways.  I use it mainly to hit draws off the tee.  When I combine me, a driver, and trying to hit a draw it does not work out well most of the time.  So the MIni is for that. As an aside, I have not hit the newest BRNR, but the previous model wasn’t great off the deck.  The 300 Mini is very good off the deck.”
  • JAM01: “Ok, just put the BRNR in the bag along side a QI10 max and a QI10 3 wood. A load of top end redundancy. But, I have several holes at my two home courses where the flight and accuracy of the mini driver helps immensely. Mine is stock Proforce 65 at 13.5, I could see a heavier shaft, but to normal flex, as a nice alternative.”

Why Ludvig Aberg is my new favorite player – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing one of the new sensations in the world of golf – Ludvig Aberg. The 24-year-old finished solo second at the Masters a couple of weeks ago, and gained many plaudits, including from several WRXers.

One member, RoyalMustang, took to the forums to explain why Aberg is now their favorite player, saying:

“I loved the way the Ludvig was out there, having a great time, not taking himself or the situation too seriously. Even after the double at 11, he was like “well, that’s golf!” Loose and relaxed: that’s the way to play. It’s obvious he loves what he’s doing, he loves the big moments, and he loves being a part of it all.

Arnold Palmer was viewed that way. Just like Brooks Robinson was forever viewed as not just a great baseball player, but a great human being and friend to Baltimore.”

And our members have been reacting and sharing their positive takes on the young Swede.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • redfirebird08: “Ludvig has a great attitude, a great smile, and a great golf swing.”
  • otto6457: “I’m very lucky to have talked with Ludde several times at the Rawls Course at Texas Tech.  He’s a truly nice guy and very friendly.  Always said hello when we passed each other in the club house and was always smiling. Watching him hit balls on the range was a joy.  He has “that sound” and trajectory to die for.  There were many times he was out on the range in 30+ mph winds just hitting the most beautiful shots that just seemed to ignore the wind.  World class ball striker. And yes……..I am a fan boy.”
  • konklifer: “I like him. In an era of endless waggles and laboring, his swing and pace of play are a joy to watch.
