10 revealing photos from the Northern Trust Open

Published

on

GolfWRX was live this week from Riviera Country Club — one of Hogan’s Alleys, and more intimately known as “Riv” — in Pacific Palisades, Calif., for the Northern Trust Open. Just down the road from Hollywood, the course attracts many celebrity memberships, such as Adam Sandler, Larry David and Mark Wahlberg (featured below).

The Northern Trust Open also attracts the game’s top players. World No. 1 Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy (No. 3), Bubba Watson (No. 6) and Justin Rose (No. 7) are in this year’s field.

Check out all of the galleries from this week here.

And see what those photos revealed below.

A 29-gram shaft

29gramshaft

Fujikura’s new Zero Speeder shaft reportedly weighs 29 grams. That means it weighs closer to “zero” than most any other driver shaft on the market.

You know you’re on the Californian-swing when…

InandOutLA

This In-N-Out truck must be absolute torture for the Tour players who travel with a dietician and are only allowed to eat unsalted peanuts and Turkey jerky during their round. But really, a quick double-double at the turn never killed anyone, right?

Changing it up

DustinJohnson

If you look closely, you can see TaylorMade’s new PSi Tour irons in Dustin Johnson’s bag, after previously playing with the company’s Tour Preferred MB irons for more than two years. He also switched to an M2 driver and fairway wood.

See Dustin’s full WITB here.

Lefties get dunked on

LeftyPersimmon

If you know any lefty golfers, or read the GolfWRX forums, you know lefties are constantly complaining that equipment companies don’t offer left-handed options in golf clubs they want. This photo may just push them over the edge. The Northern Trust Open was able to get a left-handed persimmon club for a gaff, but you can’t get the new driver you want? My sincerest apologies lefties; you shouldn’t have to see this.

Back when Mark Wahlberg was Marky Mark…

…he probably played this driver; a Callaway FT-i (the “square one”). Based on a keen observation, he also has a set of Titleist 716 T-MB irons in the bag at the Northern Trust.

WahlbergWITBNow… a few wedges of note before the No. 1 revealing photo of the week.

Rory’s new rust

RoryMcIlroy

We shot Rory’s 2016 WITB this week, showing his new 60-degree Nike wedge. It appears to have a grind similar to one of Nike’s Engage wedges, except it’s super raw, rusted and appears to be chiseled from a block of steel. So clean.

Golf like a rockstar

JimmyPage

This is J.J. Spaun’s Jimmy Page (of Led Zeppelin)-inspired wedge. And he has an awesome Buckethead head cover, too.

If you don’t get the reference.

That milling, tho?

RyanMoore

PXG’s new 0311T Milled wedges are undeniably gorgeous — simply great looking wedges. And this photo provides a clear look at the circular milling marks in the sole.

The smelliest wedge on Tour

Spieth knows what I’m talkin’ about.

The ultimate Tiger throwback

TigerWoodsBuick

This Tiger-tribute has it all from the headcovers to the silver Buick staff bag. I don’t know whose bag this is, but I know whose it isn’t — this guy from the 2007 commercial. Run the tape!

Looking back on it (no pun intended), maybe Tiger shouldn’t have been all out truck-sticking people for fun. But it was hilarious at the time.

Coolest thing for sale in the GolfWRX Classifieds (5/8/24): Scotty Cameron Art of Putting Laguna putter

Published

on

At GolfWRX, we are a community of like-minded individuals that all experience and express our enjoyment of the game in many ways.

It’s that sense of community that drives day-to-day interactions in the forums on topics that range from best driver to what marker you use to mark your ball. It even allows us to share another thing we all love – buying and selling equipment.

Currently, in our GolfWRX buy/sell/trade (BST) forum, there is a listing for a Scotty Cameron Art of Putting Laguna putter.

From the seller: (@kcsf): “Scotty Cameron Art of Putting Laguna. -I will regret this one selling for sure. It does have one small nick on the face near the toe as shown, otherwise in amazing new condition.  -BOS reconditioned and received last month. Oil can finish as done new by BOS when this putter was released many moons ago. -Head cover is authentic SC and shows age. Velcro is worthless of course, but does stay closed.  -Length is 34.25 inches, original shaft. -Grip is old and needs replacing. I can have my pro do it prior to shipping at an additional cost of the grip only. -$475.”

To check out the full listing in our BST forum, head through the link: Scotty Cameron Art of Putting Laguna putter

This is the most impressive current listing from the GolfWRX BST, and if you are curious about the rules to participate in the BST Forum you can check them out here: GolfWRX BST Rules

Mitsubishi Diamana WB: What you need to know + club build, on-course testing

Published

on

GolfWRX’s Resident Club Junkie, Brian Knudson, was naturally excited to get his hands on Mitsubishi’s new Diamana WB shaft.

In this video, BK gives you a brief overview of the new WB, builds up a driver, and takes it to the course for some testing.

With the rebirth of the iconic Whiteboard profile, Mitsubishi didn’t just re-issue a classic, but rather infused all the company’s latest tech into a new shaft, paying homage to the original with its quintessentially Hawaiian-inspired stylings. A summary of that impressive roster of technology, below.

  • 80-ton Dialead pitch fiber: Positioned in the handle, Dialead is designed to deliver greater ball speed via better energy transfer.
  • Aerospace-grade MR70 carbon fiber adds additional strength, and 46-ton fiber in angle plies in the tip section reduce torque for tighter shot dispersion.
  • Consistent Feel Design: Engineers target minimal variance across shafts (butt OD, weight, and balance point) to make the fitting process easier.
  • Xlink Tech Resin System: Engineers continue to reduce resin content and increase carbon fiber volume for greater feel without sacrificing strength and durability.
