ICYMI: Harold Varner III dabbed his way to Sunday 65 at the Sony
PGA Tour rookie and East Carolina University alum Harold Varner III is a pretty big Carolina Panthers fan, judging from his Twitter account.
Thus, by extension, he’s a pretty big fan of the Dab, which has become Cam Newton’s signature celebration this season. For the uninitiated, check out Sports Illustrated’s Kenney Ducey’s “A brief history of the Dab in sports” for more than you ever wanted to know about the phenomenon.
So, HVIII (who it seems watched the Panthers game in Hawaii prior to his final round, thanks to the time difference) was basking in the afterglow of the Panthers win over the Seahawks. Thus, he had a little back-and-forth with his final-round playing partner Steve Wheatcroft on Twitter discussing side action and threatened to dab for every birdie.
And as you can see, once “Gerald” became involved, all bets were off (or on, as the case may be).
Here’s the best part of this story: Varner went out and shot a Sunday 65 to move up 26 places, finishing T13. And based on video that’s emerged, he kept his word with respect to the dabbing.
It’s always fun to see the back-and-forth between tour players as they wind each other up like buddies out for a weekend round. And of course, HVIII has brought the Dab to professional golf, which, depending on your sensibilities is either fantastic or a sign of the apocalypse.

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons
In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.
For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- btyh: “Holy offset.”
- Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
- bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing
As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.
Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.
What happens when 4 #PGATOUR pros take a day off?
Luckily, the cameras were rolling.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.

I guess seeing Chi Chi sword fight must have made AB blow a gasket. HV3 is having fun. No cursing. No throwing clubs. Interest in golf is declining because it is really the only sport where having fun is criticized. Golf courses will continue to close around the country so long as interest and participation by people under 25 continues to decline. Dab on!

Great! Here we go with more in your face antics! I don’t recall seeing Arnold Palmer or Jack Nicklaus doing the “DAB”. I think it is very unprofessional and totally uncalled for in the game of golf. I guess in the AJGA events we can look forward to seeing the “DAB” also. Nothing like seeing 10yr. olds act like prima donnas, it will only get worse from here on out. Time will tell. So sad for such a great game.

Lee Trevino had some “antics” back in the day and the game survived. Golfers will always be 1,000 times more classy than the trash that plays in the NFL and NBA so if they want to do a little jig here and there– so be it.

I also don’t recall seeing Arnold Palmer or Jack Nicklaus in the field in the 2016 Sony Open. Things change over time, Paw-Paw. Either adjust to it or don’t, it matters not. Both of the guys were obviously having fun with it. God forbid anyone have any fun (i.e. “disrespect the game”).

Harold is a super nice guy. He’s the opposite of a prima donna and acutally never played an AJGA event. If James Hahn gets a pass for gangnam style, Rickie gets a pass for dressing like he’s jogging at night, and Boo Weekly gets a pass for anytime he verbalizes his thoughts, then lay off Harold.
