The GolfWRX forums exist so golfers have access to the latest equipment releases, hottest discussions, real equipment reviews, best instruction, new technologies and everything golf you can imagine.

So if you love golf, the GolfWRX forums are your sanctuary.

In the From the Forums weekly feature, we bring you the hottest, most buzz-worthy topics from our forums for your convenience. I’ll be your trusty tour guide to navigate the latest buzz.

Here’s a peek behind the curtain into golf’s sanctuary.

Rickie’s Cobra King 3-iron

Cobra_King_Utility_Rickie_Fowler

Our staff photographer spotted Rickie Fowler gaming a Cobra King Utility 3-iron at the Hero World Challenge. No word on product details, but we’ve got some awesome shots of this adjustable iron that you have to check out.

Have a look at several shots of Rickie’s new weapon.

“TaylorMade sold” talk

TaylorMadeM1drivers

Speculation about the demise of TaylorMade seem to emerge weekly. Gossiping like old ladies and offering perspectives on the rumor mill is part of what makes the GolfWRX forums fun (and as a bonus: some of the members know what they’re talking about!).

Chilidog said:

“I call on Adidas Golf as a customer. I was there today doing routine calls and when working on some programs for 2017 apparel for them, I was told by my contact (who is a good friend as well) that I shouldn’t bother. She informed me that word just came down that Taylormade has been sold (wouldn’t let me know who even though I am still prodding her for info) and that they are going through the good faith measurement right now of opening the books. She said they were also informed that Adidas Golf would scale back and would be a much smaller team. She said Adidas is reorganizing to be more soccer and urban wear focused and will be chopping SG&A out of the business. She said that I should see an announcement around the PGA show in January if all the books look ok.”

Confession: ‘I only play 12 clubs’

Hickory-Golf-Clubs-

A few weeks back in FTF, we brought you a thread discussing the unused club in your golf bag. This week, in a desperate bid for camaraderie and reassurance, user BobDoo posted he only uses 12 clubs: Driver, 5-wood, 4-iron through pitching wedge, 52-degree wedge, 58-degree wedge, putter.

Perspectives varied from “I do the same thing” to “I only play nine,” to traditionally 14-clubbers in the interesting discussion that ensued.

Do you play fewer than 14 clubs? Want to weigh in? Here’s the thread.

Golf’s most famous putter

tiger-woods-scotty-cameron

We’re talking about the physical flatstick, here.

jrich61820 asked the question: What’s the most famous putter in the history of the game? He proposes a few: Bobby Jones’ Calamity Jane. The MacGregor Jack Nicklaus won the ‘86 Masters with. Arnold Palmer’s Wilson 8802. Tiger Woods Scotty Cameron Newport 2.

The discussion expands into the historical significance of various putter models and their influence (such as the Ping Anser).

It’s a great debate. And if you love golf, you’ll likely want to add your two cents.

Equipment free agency chatter

horschel

We brought you a front page feature on equipment/sponsorship free agency rumors as we enter the new year. And while the discussion in the comment section of that post is lively, it’s nothing compared to the chatter in the forum thread dedicated to the topic.

Further, the thread predated the front page post and will be a scorching paradise of hot takes long after traffic to the front page story has dried up.

Most forgiving players irons? – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing players irons. WRXer ‘NorthTXGolf’ is on the hunt for some new irons but is putting a priority on forgiveness, and has reached out to fellow members who have been sharing their thoughts and advice on the subject in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Sam217: “i230 has got to be one of the most forgiving players irons available. Cobra King Tour another. Don’t sleep on the New Level 480 DB coming out soon.”
  • RangeBaller: “ZX5/ZX7 and i230 should definitely be in your testing pool.”
  • YAMS49: “Another I210 homie here… Very highly recommended if you want/need spin and a consistent yardage.”
  • golf-RN: “I second the Cobra King Tour irons. I am not the greatest ballstriker by any stretch of the imagination and I find the King Tours very forgiving. Toe strikes might lose 5 or 6 yards with no directional loss. You definitely feel the miss though lol but mishits from the center aren’t punished too hard regarding distance.”

What’s the perfect mini-driver/shaft combo? – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Mini-Drivers and accompanying shafts. WRXer ‘JamesFisher1990’ is about to purchase a BRNR Mini and is torn on what shaft weight to use, and our members have been sharing their thoughts and set ups in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • PARETO: “New BRNR at 13.5. Took it over to TXG (Club Champ but TXG will always rule) in Calgary for a fit. Took the head down to 12, stuck in a Graphite Design AD at 3 wood length and 60g. Presto- numbers that rivaled my G430Max but with waaaaay tighter dispersion. Win.”
  • driveandputtmachine: “Still playing a MIni 300.  The head was only 208, so I ordered a heavier weight and play it at 3 wood length.  I am playing a Ventus Red 70.   I play 70 grams in my fairways.  I use it mainly to hit draws off the tee.  When I combine me, a driver, and trying to hit a draw it does not work out well most of the time.  So the MIni is for that. As an aside, I have not hit the newest BRNR, but the previous model wasn’t great off the deck.  The 300 Mini is very good off the deck.”
  • JAM01: “Ok, just put the BRNR in the bag along side a QI10 max and a QI10 3 wood. A load of top end redundancy. But, I have several holes at my two home courses where the flight and accuracy of the mini driver helps immensely. Mine is stock Proforce 65 at 13.5, I could see a heavier shaft, but to normal flex, as a nice alternative.”

Why Ludvig Aberg is my new favorite player – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing one of the new sensations in the world of golf – Ludvig Aberg. The 24-year-old finished solo second at the Masters a couple of weeks ago, and gained many plaudits, including from several WRXers.

One member, RoyalMustang, took to the forums to explain why Aberg is now their favorite player, saying:

“I loved the way the Ludvig was out there, having a great time, not taking himself or the situation too seriously. Even after the double at 11, he was like “well, that’s golf!” Loose and relaxed: that’s the way to play. It’s obvious he loves what he’s doing, he loves the big moments, and he loves being a part of it all.

Arnold Palmer was viewed that way. Just like Brooks Robinson was forever viewed as not just a great baseball player, but a great human being and friend to Baltimore.”

And our members have been reacting and sharing their positive takes on the young Swede.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • redfirebird08: “Ludvig has a great attitude, a great smile, and a great golf swing.”
  • otto6457: “I’m very lucky to have talked with Ludde several times at the Rawls Course at Texas Tech.  He’s a truly nice guy and very friendly.  Always said hello when we passed each other in the club house and was always smiling. Watching him hit balls on the range was a joy.  He has “that sound” and trajectory to die for.  There were many times he was out on the range in 30+ mph winds just hitting the most beautiful shots that just seemed to ignore the wind.  World class ball striker. And yes……..I am a fan boy.”
  • konklifer: “I like him. In an era of endless waggles and laboring, his swing and pace of play are a joy to watch.
