Michelle Wie’s pink Nike Blazer golf shoes and rainbow hair

Published

on

Michelle Wie, noted for her fashion sense and artistic abilities, took to the Evian Championship in France, the final women’s major of 2015, and made a few loud fashion statements. She wore hot pink Nike Blazer golf shoes — designed based on her input and shoe preferences — and this colorful rainbow hair.

Evian Les Bains, where the tournament is being hosted, is about 5 hours from Paris, which is considered one of the “fashion capitals of the world.” Close enough, right?

But more about those Hot Pink/Camouflage shoes. Wie asked Nike to create a high-top shoe that reflects her sense of fashion both on and off the course.

The result: these Women’s Nike Blazers that Ms. Wie will be wearing on course at the Evian Championship this week. Nike Blazers were first worn by NBA legend George “The Iceman” Gervin in 1972, but the silhouette has since transcended into other athletic realms such as skateboarding, and now apparently, golf.

Joël Greenspan, footwear designer for Nike Golf, explains:

“SHE [WIE] WANTED TO FEEL MORE SUPPORT THROUGHOUT HER SWING AND GREATER CONNECTION TO THE GROUND. SHE ALSO WANTED A SHOE THAT WOULD REFLECT HER DISTINCT SENSE OF STYLE ON AND OFF THE COURSE.”

Love or hate the shoe, it’s clear the athletic shoe maestros succeeded.

Most golfers will wonder how the heck one plays golf in a high-top shoe. Wie’s take: “The high top collar is so functional for me, providing the support I need through the impact of my swing.”

Well, OK then.

Inside the tongue, in hot pink (of course) lettering, Wie’s 2014 U.S. Women’s Open score is printed. She’ll be playing for her second career major championship this week at the Evian Championship, where her best career finish is a T37.

Expect the shoe to arrive in stores some time in 2016. Sorry fellas, but it looks like they’re releasing them in Women’s sizes only.

Michelle needs to concentrtate more on her game, which needs some improvement, and not worry so much about making a fashion statement.

It’s always been apparent to me that marketing her persona has been more important (and successful?) than her play. I wish her well on both..we’re still a democracy, so she should go for it. Remember early on when Lorena Ochoa beat her thoroughly at a tournament where Wie was thoroughly favored? I recall that TV interviewed Wie for about 30 seconds, then went to the champion (Ochoa) for about 15 seconds, then back to Wie for a lengthy interview. This illustrates that Wie’s marketing people are doing a good job, and this weeks rainbow hair plus pink shoes illustrates how.

Something about that final photo looks familiar; I can’t put my finger on it but maybe I can get my foot in it. Maybe also get pink Bubba Watson shafts and Golf Pride Camo grips for my woods and go to Paris, yeah Paris… wear zoot suits, go to fashion shoots and date real models, not role models.

@CDN – What about this article makes you think that she needs to be reminded that she’s a role model? There is nothing wrong with this.

Somebody forgot to give her a note about how she’s a role model and that little girls look up to her as a US Open champion.

She has semi decent work done on her face but still looks like one of those “pretty” Korean girls.

She looks Korean (cuz she is), but she doesn’t look like the “modified” Korean Pop stars. For one, all their noses look the same.

Or if you’re really lucky, your Air Jordan 6 golf shoes…

If you want to golf in high-top guys, looks like you’ll just have to wear your Bandons.

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.

For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • btyh: “Holy offset.”
  • Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
  • bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing

Published

on

As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.

Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.
