Is this really happening, Tiger?
Tiger Woods calls his strong play through two rounds at the Wyndham Championship “part of the process,” but there’s nothing routine about the feat the 14-time major championship could accomplish in Greensboro, N.C.
Woods entered this week needing to win to guarantee himself a spot in the PGA Tour’s FedExCup Playoffs. Despite an almost two-year winless streak and a season filled with more shanks than successes, he’s poised to do just that at Sedgefield Country Club after rounds of 64-65 (11-under).
Woods is currently tied for the lead with Tom Hoge going into Round 3, with Davis Love III, Chad Campbell, Brandt Snedeker, Bill Haas and Nick Watney all within two shots.
“It was a grind today,” Woods said after the round. “I didn’t quite hit it as good as I did yesterday … I hung in there.”
If hanging in there is what Woods did on Friday, golf fans are left to wonder what he was feeling earlier in the season, where he recorded three rounds in the 80s, including one at the U.S. Open, and failed to record a finish inside the top-15 in 10 events.
One thing is for sure. This is the best golf Tiger has played since he last won a PGA Tour event, the WGC-Bridgestone Invitation in August 2013.
Can he win on Sunday? You tell us.

Photos from the 2024 PGA Championship
GolfWRX is on site this week at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, for the PGA Championship.
While we see fewer equipment changes and new gear seeding at major championships, we get a look at custom gear and looks into the bags of players we rarely see, which is just as exciting. In the case of the PGA Championship, this means a look at the gear some of the PGA Professionals who qualified for the tournament will be gaming, and LIV players, such as Jon Rahm and Patrick Reed.
Check out links to all our albums from Valhalla below and check back throughout the week as we continue to update.

Ask him why he doesn’t play at The Riviera in L.A. That should mess with his mind

I bet you right now, that guy who bought 4 day or weekend tickets is definetly getting more than his money’s worth this weekend

What I see is he’s leading the field. His swing looks good and when he does miss the fairways, the rough is minimal. I like seeing him play well again and hopefully his body holds up. When crunch time comes again things will be really exciting seeing these guys compete. We all have favorites and I’ll admit Jordan and Jason are mine, but playing golf at this level and seeing quality shots is what the games all about. I haven’t missed Tiger but Tiger back playing well only adds to the excitement of the game.

He’s a living legend. I would’ve not played golf if it was not for him promoting his prowess in the game. He’s the reason why golf is not dead. I accept that as a fact and something the golf world should be thankful to him. Don’t hate him because of his mistakes and downfall, he has done something great to the game that really put it where it is in modern history.

Nah. Golf was doing just fine without all the circus, noise, hackers and all the hoopla.

You tell that to all the golf pros who were making a fraction of the money before the Tiger money started pouring in.

Spot on Jack..Not to mention all the other variables that ultimately has made golf more exciting. I mean, Tom Hoge himself said yesterday, “I was inspired to play golf because of the 97′ Masters”…And God only telling how many more people because of what TW has done.

I was playing golf before Eldrick came along, and golf was doing just fine. There were plenty of courses, and they weren’t crowded, nor were they trampled over by those so-called “inspired” people who have had no education in golf etiquette nor manners, except to go around smashing their new clubs and balls all over the golf courses and leaving them looking like a 2-year-old’s sand box.
Nobody really complained about the money they were making in golf, until the 90’s hit everything in life. Every sport became a money-grabbing scheme. The Olympics became professional, the moneys went up and up in every major sport imaginable, and overcrowding and misbehavior became the norm. Look at the Phoenix Open. Who came up with that idea to have a grandstand of drunken idiots surrounding a hole? Golf is not what it used to be, that is a fact, yes, but whether it was all for the good? That’s debatable. Remove all the hoopla, golf will still do fine, people will still play it who want to play it, without the need to be inspired to play it, the Nicklaus, Palmer, Snead, Hogan, Trevino, Watson etc of the game were inspiration enough, not the misbehavior and poor etiquette.

Why such an incredulous title? He’s won 79 times with 14 majors sprinkled about. Winning number 80 doesn’t seem so far fetched. Other golfers have gone through lean periods and they’re celebrated when they play well. Y’all are acting like Tiger would lose to someone in a weekend foursome. The Tiger hate is beyond ridiculous at this point.

As much as I wish it would happen, I feel like this has happened before. He has some good rounds, and then blows it over the weekend. I hope I’m wrong though…

Tiger was the player of the year two years ago, 5 wins including a players championship. But he is done? In comparsion Rory, Jordan and Rickie are the new big three. Rickie has 7 full seasons on tour 2 wins including a players. In that time tiger has 14 wins.

Tiger has 2 good rounds at an easy course, he gets an article per day on WRX.
Jason Day wins his first major, taming an absolute beast of a course, no article at all going into depth about his amazing feat. -20 under to boot.

uh there was for sure an article about it. Don’t complain about content to read, just don’t read it.

Aug 21, 2015 at 6:54 pm
I couldn’t agree more. Two good rounds on an easy par 70 course with a field lacking many of the top golfers in the world and WRX thinks “he’s back”. The guy can’t even make the cut in a major anymore, but now he’s front page material.
Chi
Aug 21, 2015 at 7:28 pm
Who cares if he’s back or not. Tiger playing well is great for golf. Who else would be the reason for an extra 49k tickets being sold? It is what it is, golf is better when Tiger is in contention.

did you say you thought it was easy? Then what did you shoot? C’mon!
Dr Troy
Aug 22, 2015 at 9:01 pm
You obviously didnt pay attention to what I typed…I didn’t say anything about this being a “tough” course…BUT, you said it was “EASY”…I also said, these “hacks” below…I seriously doubt anyone that knows anything about golf, will say Cink, Toms and Boo are hacks. Point is, it wasn’t THAT easy. It’s not a US Open track either…

Aug 21, 2015 at 7:50 pm
Hard to believe a course that had a winner at -20 and 53 players under par is a beast. What do you think the winning score will be this week? 20 to 22 under must be a beast of a course also. A beast is where around par wins not -20 and 53 beating par
