Billy Hurley III’s father dies from self-inflicted gunshot wound

Published

Golfweek reported on Thursday that PGA Tour player Billy Hurley III’s father, Willard “Bill” Hurley Jr., died on Tuesday in Loudoun Va., from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Willard was previously reported missing from the family home in Leesburg, Va., on July 27 and was located days later in Texas when he told the local police he was “simply traveling.”

Hurley III, who was reportedly notified of his father’s death on Tuesday, addressed the media in statement:

[quote_box_center]”I want to thank the PGA Tour, the greater golf media and all those who provided their support, prayers and encouragement,” Hurley III said. “The PGA Tour community has always taken great care of us, and my family and I are very grateful for that. As soon as I am able, I will return to golf and will provide further comment.”[/quote_box_center]

Are you kidding me? Suicide is the most selfish thing a person can do. He has hurt all his loved ones more than you can imagine.

Straight up. It’s unfortunate, but there’s about 98% more of the story we don’t know. We each make our decisions, and sometimes it’s better to go than stay. Not easy, but no hard feelings. Condolences to all involved.

He hurt his whole family’s feelings. And his friends. For they could not have foreseen this, and the guilt will with them for ever for not being able to help him. Such is what’s left of it of what he left.
    So sad.

These guys just aren’t good but they are humans also. Sad for anyone to lose a love one in that manner. Suicide is a permanent solution to problems.

My deepest condolences are with the Hurley family during this time of loss. There are no words that can articulate, nor console, the pain that results from tragedy of this magnitude. May Bill Hurley Jr.’s spirit be at ease in his final resting place.
