Published

on

On Tuesday, Mizuno released photos of new MP-25 cavity back-style irons on its Open Championship blog, following a Monday release of “MP-5 Channelback” blade-style irons.

The MP-25 irons are stamped “GF Forged 1025 Boron,” which likely means they’re Grain-Flow forged using 1025 Boron, the same material used in Mizuno’s JPX-850 Forged irons.

Wow, these just look powerful. Mizuno has been sending its new irons to the gym. I like the slot insert. Hoping they will be forgiving like Pings but feel like Mizzies.

Will they carry it in left hand, or will I be yet again disappointed with the release of another Mizuno line that apparently can’t make enough money selling right-handed sets to justify making the dies and molds for left-handed sets?

I could make these look so good with just a tiny amount of nail polish….

For those concerned about the finish of the irons (wow, really prima donna’s) you can search online for keywords “Mizuno, Yoro, custom finish” and you’ll have your choice of finish and paint fill. Almost all manufacturers are doing this now. Black finished MP4 blades in gloss or flat anyone? Yup.

Would this be their replacement of 64? Would like to see a side by side. 15 looked like a 64/59, this looks like a 64/15 minus the insert…just like to see the sole and top line in comparison to the others

Why do mizuno release so many new models per year that quite frankly, all look the same, but no one hates on them like they do other brands with yearly release cycles. I’ve never found a mizuno I liked yet, too chunky, even the blades.

even MP 4’s too chunky? Damn man. You like the butter knife eh? 🙂

yep. MP4 have a long blade and thick for a blade top line IMO

You answered your own question there Mike. The difference is annual release cycle vs. quarterly/monthly release cycle.

These look really nice. Anyone know the optimal handicap range for these?

I love Mizunos.I own multiple sets of irons and a decade’s worth of wedges and hybrids. While I greatly appreciate the elimination of garish paint fill, I find it hard to believe that these irons are MPs. The bulbous nature of these irons reminds me of any number of max game improvement irons.

Yeah. Until you see its size.

They look very much like my MP-54’s. I went to the JPX-850 forged with Boron because of better distances. If the 54’s would have had boron I might have stayed with them.

Absolutely beautiful. Mizuno definitely understands how to design good-looking irons.

lots of unhappy people about this i’m sure, complaints have been made about the feel of the forged Boron.

I gather, after seeing the MP5 pictures and now these, that Mizuno designers are taking a cue from the GolfWRX segment of the golfing world, and are doing away with paintfill in some areas. Kind of nice, I think.

I think it looks really classy w/o all the paint on them
