Report: Mickelson’s millions tied to money laundering, gambling case

Published

on

According to a report from ESPN, approximately $2.75 million was transferred from Phil Mickelson to a man who pleaded guilty to money laundering last week as part of an “illegal gambling operation which accepted and placed bets on sporting events.”

George Silveira, a 56-year-old former sports gambling handicapper who reportedly acted as a “conduit to an offshore gambling operation,” pleaded guilty to laundering approximately $2.75 million from a “gambling client.”

Two unnamed sources of ESPN’s Outside the Lines named Mickelson as the “gambling client.” Based on the report, however, Mickelson is not under investigation and has not been charged with a crime.

Silveira faces up to 60 years in prison, although the sentence is expected to shorter, according to ESPN’s report.

But keep in mind that you do need to spend cash to get these objects for-free at those shops.

@May be typos. No genius, but the woman that lost her life was. And I believe if memory serves me, he’s incarcerated at press time, right? I know it’s hard to accept, trust me I get the frustration on your part with the truth.

We’ll see how this plays out with Mr. Ahhh shucks, collar up, Leave It To Beaver’s Eddie Haskell’Mickelson. I highly doubt anything will come out of his “alleged” $3 million doll’a involvement in this off shore, errrrrrrrr card game! Lol! Night guys, and Happy 4th, errrrrrr 5th!

@Small Mike, I mean Big Mike. Yeah my friend, race has everything to do with it. He’s protected by his own. It’s a common theme around the world, I get it, you should too, it’s far from complex. Oscar (bionic man) Pistorius is a fine example of privilege and protection. Wake up pal. So you’re telling me if Eldrick was walking down the same gambling street as Pickle, the story would disappear under the radar like it has for The Great _ _ _ _ e Hope Mick? You’re sleep at the wheel about to hit the guard rail of denial. It’s ok, we don’t need you to play, just sit on the balcony at the 19th and watch us come in.

Ballstrika. Race has nothing to do with this although you are trying to take it that way. No thanks. I’m not playin.

Something does smell fishy though. I wonder if Phil was getting the inside scoop to where the money is leaning. We all know Vegas always wins and if you know that all the squares are betting one way, that is some valuable knowledge. I would think he would just pay somebody to fly to Vegas to make some wagers. I doubt he is placing small bets. I wonder if Phil follows Mayweather’s bets.

So Phil earns about $50,000,000 a year and we are talking about gambling money of about 2,500,000, or roughly 5%

That’s like a guy making $80,000 gambling with $4000 over the course of a year?

Hardly seems like a gambling problem. I’ve known people who lose more over a weekend in Vegas!

I wanna be white someday!! I just wanna know what it’s like to do, say, and act any old way I please without reprisal. Must be nice. Go Phil Go!! Funny thing too, the day after this story broke, Golf Central did not mention the gambling fiasco once!! In 30 minutes of alleged up to the minute golf news, Pickle’s “alleged” $2.75 million donation to the dark side was not approached once. This would have never been the case if “fallen from grace” Eldrick had been involved in this “alleged” scheme.

They will not speak of Phil with a negative tone unless it’s a last option. He’s Mr family man. His wholesome image with the programmed smiles and PC words. It does seem behind the scenes, he is a crooked person of shady character.

When you have the complexion for protection as does Phillip, expect to skate with a slap on the wrist.
Whew weee, if this had been Eldrick, maaaan expect the worst. Tax investigation, car registration investigation, naturalization investigation, blood type review, was Eldrick realing born in the USA, is his Tour Card legit, let’s see what else? I mean it runs the gamut when people of the wrong shade
    cross the lines.

I’m so glad this wasn’t Tiger who’s tied to a multi-million dollar international money laundering crime. If this were Mr. Woods, he would be put under the jail and stripped of his money and major trophies. Since it’s Phil, and he’s such a nice guy, he couldn’t have none it was a crime, let’s give him a break and his money back.

      Jun 30, 2015 at 2:00 pm

Just maybe, if it were Tiger Woods (and friendly with the Current Occupant at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue) and presuming that Woods had not been charged with anything and wasn’t even the subject of the investigation — as is the case with Mickelson right now — the Department of Justice wouldn’t be leaking inconclusive tidbits to ESPN.

Phil is a known gambling addict. You hear it all the time from guys that play a practice round with him. He wants to bet on EVERYTHING.

I wonder what people would be saying if this story was about Tiger? I can only imagine the vitriol that would be spewed on here.

How is the bookie facing 60 years and Mickelson, “his gambling client” not at least getting 90 days?

…seems like Phil might have assisted with the investigation to get a little “federal love”

I’ll never understand my country’s obsession with penalizing people for this. Imagine where a re-focusing could take us…

      Jun 29, 2015 at 7:14 pm

Yes money laundering, tax evasion, illegal gambling. That is exactly what this country needs. Al Capone was ahead of his time.

Note to golfers – stay FAR away from sporting bookies and Las Vegas. More than a few careers have been really messed up by Las Vegas. The good news is they are just about out of water there with Lake Mead dropping lower each day.

“Sports gambling handicapper”. Translation = Bookie.

A handicapper isn’t just a bookie. He’s the numbers genius that bookies call for a spread that tempts bettors both ways.

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.

For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • btyh: “Holy offset.”
  • Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
  • bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing

Published

on

As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.

Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.
