wow…one of the coolest WITB I have ever seen. Especially because its a Titleist bag…those are usually the worst. This may be the first Titleist bag i have seen that wasnt whole sale “latest/greatest” 71_series irons and 91_ series woods.
Love the DHY Proto as well. I have been gaming one for a few months .

I have a noob question. I’ve been under the impression this whole time that the titleist 712U irons were driving utility irons and not the easiest clubs to hit off the turf as they were designed for tee shots. Seeing that Scott has a 712U 5i, I’m I way off? Are they that playable from the turf and rough lies? I’m trying to comprehend the benefit of a 712U 5 iron, and am struggling and feel like i’ve been missing something this whole time.

Why would you think an iron could not be hit from the fairway? The 712u is just easier to hit and has a different trajectory than the 690’s. I don’t know but I would guess that at200yds. or so he’s giving up some shapability for a little higher trajectory and some forgiveness. These irons are great in that you get a little ease of hit but don’t hook or balloon like a hybrid or a GI iron.

The 712u’s are kind of like hybrids that are more geared toward low handicap players. They’re going to be easier to hit than a standard long iron, but with a more penetrating ball flight than a hybrid.

Yea, the 690’s are conforming, as are the 660’s, 670’s, 680’s, 681’s and a bunch of older Mizuno lines such as the MP 32’s and 33’s.

So I am a huge fan of lead tape, and I love to see the bags of tour pros with beat-up-looking golf clubs, because I see so many recreational golfers who are so fanatical about minor swingweight issues from the OEMs. Scott Peircy knows how to fix your swingweight issues!
But on a more serious note, I am curious about how Titleist goes about making a Groove Rule-conforming set of 690’s for a current tour player. The 690’s were not compliant when they were originally forged, finished and chromed, right?
Does Titleist/Endo/Whoever have some old forgings with which to remake new sets? I’m sure somebody has an answer that is not dramatic or mystifying; I’d just like to know what it is. How many people will they do that for?

According to the USGA’s database, the 690’s do conform to the 2010 groove rule.
