Leaked: 2014 Taylormade TP CB, MC and MB iron photos
Another day, another leak TaylorMade’s soon-to-be released Tour Preferred (TP) irons.
The name of the irons pictured above, MC, stands for “muscle cavity.” They are expected to be the medium-sized offering of the three Tour Preferred irons that TaylorMade will release this year, along with smaller Forged MB (muscle back) and a larger CB (cavity back) irons.
Previous MC irons from TaylorMade were by no means “distance irons,” as they offered just a bit more forgiveness than the company’s MB designs. But the addition of a Speed Pocket on the sole of the long and mid irons (pictured above) should be a catalyst for adding more ball speed and forgiveness to the clubs.
A TP Badge? Our sources says no. TaylorMade will likely opt for the words “Tour Preferred” instead of the TP badge. Click the image to enlarge it and see the grainy details.
Yesterday, TaylorMade leaked early photos of the 2014 TP Forged MB irons on its site (the picture above with the yellow boxes). What should be noted, however, is that the TP MB irons leaked on the company’s website clearly lack the TP badging shown on the toe of the MC irons below, a strong indication that the final versions will not include a TP badge, but rather the words “Tour Preferred.”
We know, we know. The TP badge is _______ sweet. But we’re told by our sources, including original poster MorikawaTMAG, that the badge did not make the final cut for production.

Most forgiving players irons? – GolfWRXers discuss
In our forums, our members have been discussing players irons. WRXer ‘NorthTXGolf’ is on the hunt for some new irons but is putting a priority on forgiveness, and has reached out to fellow members who have been sharing their thoughts and advice on the subject in our forum.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- Sam217: “i230 has got to be one of the most forgiving players irons available. Cobra King Tour another. Don’t sleep on the New Level 480 DB coming out soon.”
- RangeBaller: “ZX5/ZX7 and i230 should definitely be in your testing pool.”
- YAMS49: “Another I210 homie here… Very highly recommended if you want/need spin and a consistent yardage.”
- golf-RN: “I second the Cobra King Tour irons. I am not the greatest ballstriker by any stretch of the imagination and I find the King Tours very forgiving. Toe strikes might lose 5 or 6 yards with no directional loss. You definitely feel the miss though lol but mishits from the center aren’t punished too hard regarding distance.”

What’s the perfect mini-driver/shaft combo? – GolfWRXers discuss
In our forums, our members have been discussing Mini-Drivers and accompanying shafts. WRXer ‘JamesFisher1990’ is about to purchase a BRNR Mini and is torn on what shaft weight to use, and our members have been sharing their thoughts and set ups in our forum.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- PARETO: “New BRNR at 13.5. Took it over to TXG (Club Champ but TXG will always rule) in Calgary for a fit. Took the head down to 12, stuck in a Graphite Design AD at 3 wood length and 60g. Presto- numbers that rivaled my G430Max but with waaaaay tighter dispersion. Win.”
- driveandputtmachine: “Still playing a MIni 300. The head was only 208, so I ordered a heavier weight and play it at 3 wood length. I am playing a Ventus Red 70. I play 70 grams in my fairways. I use it mainly to hit draws off the tee. When I combine me, a driver, and trying to hit a draw it does not work out well most of the time. So the MIni is for that. As an aside, I have not hit the newest BRNR, but the previous model wasn’t great off the deck. The 300 Mini is very good off the deck.”
- JAM01: “Ok, just put the BRNR in the bag along side a QI10 max and a QI10 3 wood. A load of top end redundancy. But, I have several holes at my two home courses where the flight and accuracy of the mini driver helps immensely. Mine is stock Proforce 65 at 13.5, I could see a heavier shaft, but to normal flex, as a nice alternative.”

Why Ludvig Aberg is my new favorite player – GolfWRXers discuss
In our forums, our members have been discussing one of the new sensations in the world of golf – Ludvig Aberg. The 24-year-old finished solo second at the Masters a couple of weeks ago, and gained many plaudits, including from several WRXers.
- RELATED: ‘There were a number of red flags’ – Ludvig Aberg reveals why he turned down multiple LIV offers
One member, RoyalMustang, took to the forums to explain why Aberg is now their favorite player, saying:
“I loved the way the Ludvig was out there, having a great time, not taking himself or the situation too seriously. Even after the double at 11, he was like “well, that’s golf!” Loose and relaxed: that’s the way to play. It’s obvious he loves what he’s doing, he loves the big moments, and he loves being a part of it all.
Arnold Palmer was viewed that way. Just like Brooks Robinson was forever viewed as not just a great baseball player, but a great human being and friend to Baltimore.”
And our members have been reacting and sharing their positive takes on the young Swede.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- redfirebird08: “Ludvig has a great attitude, a great smile, and a great golf swing.”
- otto6457: “I’m very lucky to have talked with Ludde several times at the Rawls Course at Texas Tech. He’s a truly nice guy and very friendly. Always said hello when we passed each other in the club house and was always smiling. Watching him hit balls on the range was a joy. He has “that sound” and trajectory to die for. There were many times he was out on the range in 30+ mph winds just hitting the most beautiful shots that just seemed to ignore the wind. World class ball striker. And yes……..I am a fan boy.”
- konklifer: “I like him. In an era of endless waggles and laboring, his swing and pace of play are a joy to watch.

I’m around an 8. I currently play RBZ irons with KBS 90 shafts. I’m confident that I have enough game to play the CB 4-7 and the MC 8-PW. These clubs better have KBS shafts in them. I’m wondering if I have enough swing speed to play KBS Tour stiff. I currently play stiff in the 90, but I know light shafts are weaker than tour shafts.

Take it from somebody who works in a golf store and is a decent golfer. I am about a 7 handicap so i am good enough to tell the difference between good irons and not so good irons. For the average golfer, these clubs will be a waste of money! They release better player forged irons every 3 years or so because they are aiming for a much smaller variety of people. Bottom line, one of these three is going in my bag because i still have burners that are made for the higher handicap and i hit my 50 degree A wedge 140 which is too long for my liking. If you are under a 10 handicap, these are good irons to look at!

i cant beleive i actually read all of these comments and got sucked into it 🙂
my 2 cents…..TM has the deepest pockets and also probably has the largest following…..including the pay roll on the tour{s}
so marketing, payrolls, product releases has to be happening much more often. But i beleive there is only so many improvements, enhancements, gimmicks before your products start to over lap what others are doing… or have done in the past.
examples….. tm slider vs mizuno’s slider version
someone mentioned TM new MB looks like cobra’s
the TM cb’s /rocket bladz vs ap2,mp 54’s … etc
I think TM’s marketing fits a big niche. Mass produce for mass market at slightly lower price point…seems to me they(tm) are always a little cheaper on the rack….and thats the plan. Make a well known product, that is quality, and a better price.
i myself, play only 1 TM product… a 1st gen. rocketbalz 3 wood…love it. But thats all i have in my bag.
im a golf geek like alot of you…love to tinker, try everything and have very little loyalty… but as much as i think i like other brands i always have come back to mizuno for irons. i have played 3 sets of 52’s, and on my 3rd set of 53’s…. i have tried most brands but come back to mizuno. i have even tried real hard to buy new mp54’s but my testing just doesnt do enough for me to leave my current 2 yr old irons. So without all the new releases that TM has i dont think id try their equipment as much….so their marketing works, at least on me….. and the closer their products look like their competitors, i think, the more they will get customers trying their equipment.
Golf manufacturers have nothing if they dont have savvy marketing… we are all suckers for equipment and gimmicks
like someone mentioned above…. with all the 10 yd increases in the newest drivers we should all be hitting drives 500 yrds !
IMO…. the only thing better then a lowes or a homedpot store is the golfsmith or pga superstore.
im just glad im not a pro and stuck playing the same equipment 🙂
mizuno irons….cobra driver…tm 3 wood…cleveland wedges…tm putter…titleist bag….
IM SO CONFUSED !!!….. but cant wait for the new releases 🙂 thanks god we all have many choices.
if i worked for TM in marketing, id be copying off of other manufactures hot products too. Or who knows, maybe the boutique labels may have gotten into TM secret idea safe and stole their ideas… but this is great bantering , continue !!

Taylor Made makes good equipment. Most of the manufacturers do these days. Taylor Made will sell a zillion sets for sure. I read somewhere that Taylor Made – Adidas has sales of 1.3 billion dollars this year already and 800 million dollars in Q3 alone. I guess they know what they are doing. These new irons look good and it will be interesting to try them out. I won’t buy a set new when they are just released, that’s crazy. I will wait two years until they are $200-$300 pre-owned or lightly used demo clubs. TM, Callaway, Cleveland or Cobra can introduce new clubs every 6 months for all I care it makes no difference to how I purchase clubs. It does impact the golf shops. I know think it hurts the retail shops who struggle to keep up.

You won’t have to wait that long for a decent price drop. Rocketbladez can now be had for $250-30O and Speedblade sets are easily bought for $350 to $450. The big Ebay fire-sellers of ARP overstock clubs are dumping several sets every day. Both are 2013 products that are still available straight from taylormade.

I work in a golf shop and you would be surprised at how many people look forward to new equipment every year. And they buy them willingly. Those guys are TMs target, not you guys who are pissed because you buy something and it is not the “latest and greatest” for very long. I am able to hit every club out there but I do not change equipment more than every other year. Get a grip folks The golf business is no different than any other business. Cars, tools, tvs, ipads…….something new every year. Shocking!

I play Taylormade woods but it’s a little false advertising for them to claim that every new type of wood or iron is 10 plus yards longer or we would all be hitting 500 yard drives by now.

To all of the TM bashers out there on this website, Newsflash, you don’t have to buy them if you don’t want to, buy whatever you want. TM will always attempt to do 2 things, whatever it can to help golfers play better and run a profitable business. If you don’t like a club they produce or don’t think it will help you play better, then don’t buy it…its very simple. If I don’t want to date your sister because I don’t think she is attractive, I don’t go up to her and tell her how ugly she is, I make the decision I don’t want to ask her out and don’t. The same thing happens on any new story that GolfWRX puts up about a Callaway club, Ping club, Cobra club, etc…. If its not Mizuno, Miura or Titleist in some cases, it gets bashed and that is silly, all these brands exist for a reason, a wide variety of clubs for a wide variety of preferences
ahep52
Nov 15, 2013 at 4:27 pm
Yes, but just as you say that we don’t have to buy Taylor Made clubs if we don’t like Taylor Made, you don’t have to read our comments. Why do our comments bother you? Most people don’t make negative comments about a person’s sister because it is a person, not a product. Many of us are simply sick of seeing a company seek to profit as much money as possible with gimmicks, marketing, and volume rather than quality, engineering, and customer relations. So I will happily continue to bash TM until my peers realize they are being duped by millions of dollars of marketing and are buying clubs that will be worth 20% of what they paid within a few months. Your comment doesn’t bother me, I just enjoy expressing my view, which is what is done in a comment section.

Sorry Taylormade has become the ultimate nightmare for retailer and pro shops before they can sell the 6 month old newest and best Taylormade has reintroduced the next line. If clubs could be that improved to merit a 6 month shelf life we had better take up Folf.. how about the inventory cost to keep up with Taylormade.
Freddy v
Nov 21, 2013 at 4:38 pm
Nightmare?? Are you serious?? Any smart retailer would carry their product even if it is only 6 months. It will sell. Any retailer that struggles to sell the product is either an idiot or doesn’t know how to apply an appropriate par level or keep inventory levels where they should be. To not carry taylormade would be like not selling apple products at best buy…in fact I would challenge you to find one retailer in the golf business that loses money by carrying taylormade products.

Boy with all the great stuff coming out for 2014 TM has totally missed the boat! Also it seems alot of posters only care about looks. Is that really how you pick an iron? I guess you just want to be cool and not play better.
We all need alittle help. To make this game easy(ier). And the price is a joke. Better prices more sales, more people playing golf more money spent in the long run. For me it does not matter what OEMs release, I purchase a new set every 2 or 3 years. I have 1 more year to go on this set, It’s great I can get the 2014 for half the price in about a year.

i think they are purposely knowledgeable about the great desire to see the old tp logo on the new irons…well they put out crap saying it will say the words tour preferred, everyone gets the panties in a knot and then they release it with the new tp logo and sales go thru the roof. you read it here by the great white shark first.

For the most part, you’re right. You can make a lightning bolt, like the Titleist 695MB, or you can put a cut muscle in, like the Mizuno MP 32. I’m not sure if those items really make the club better, but you can’t say these companies didn’t try. I’m not exactly sure why blades have two or three year run.

This something I always wonder about. It is widely known that, with few exceptions, Mizuno and Miura (and anything Endo Forged for that matter) make the best forged irons. I am not sure why people get so excited for a new release from a company that doesn’t produce the best product. Why be so excited about a product that is arguably not the best…
Ken
Nov 13, 2013 at 4:28 pm
And to add a note – I have Mizuno irons and a Taylormade 3 wood. I am not saying TM is no good, I am just saying for forged irons it is hard to compete with Mizuno/Miura/Endo Forged

Curt
Nov 12, 2013 at 11:04 pm
If the MB has the speed slot, I am concerned about the weight being taken out of the head to allow for the slot, which might effect swing weight, if not added back elsewhere.

I wonder if the MC’s will be forged or cast? If they are forged like the adams xtd line then these will probably go in the bag, if not then Apex Pro’s or XTD’s will be in the bag.

Looking at the notch to adjust lie angle I would guess cast.

Forged face, cast body. That’s how the last run of TP CBs were made anyway.

If they badged them with TP logo they’d sell better. It’s just such a classy logo.
