I was on another golf board a while back (no reason to name it). I got involved in a rules debate. A couple of 'the other parties' got kind of personal and I will admit that at the end I made a post that I should not have made (in retrospect).

But in a nutshell on this unnamed board you can leave 'anonymous personal messages' (which I find a bit odd). And I got a handful of "you are an idiot" kind of notes.

I really felt that my interpretation was correct and I sent an inquiry to rules@usga.org for a clarification. And it turns out that I was correct (took a couple of weeks for a response). And (BTW) the ringleader of 'the other side of the debate' was a moderator, or the owner, or somehow has editing power over all of the board.

So I went back to the original thread and posted what I had learned from the response from rules@usga.org. These responses comes with all kinds of "do not post, do not email warnings" so I only exerpted 1/2 sentence from my request and 1 sentence from the response.

10 minutes later my post was gone with no explanation and the thread had been locked. Of course I can't respond to any of the anonymous private messengers either.

So I am "outta' there" and even requested to have my ID removed. But they don't seem to be willing to do that.

But it was interesting how 'moderated boards' (that typically work way better than unmoderated boards) can function in some circumstances.

dave

ps. I suppose that I could start posting nothing but SPAM and they would remove me. But there are limits.

I always just keep in mind that this is the internet and many posted hide behind their PC screens. Many have nothing better to do than to turn every discussion into a personal battle. Seems many discussions end up where someone has to be the clear leader in the debate and even if they are wrong they still have to be right.
Sounds like a good board to just delete from your favorites and stay here where for the most part the trolls get whats coming to them.

That's why this is the Best Damned Golf Discussion Board out there. I know I had problems of a personal nature on another board as well.

With the rapid increase of membership here, I've seen a bit more hostility than in past years but still not even on the radar of other boards.

What's funny is that you can mention the name of that site here, but you cannot mention the name of this site over there without censorship. Hilarity

Wish I could say I was surprised. I too wonder which one it was. Might be the one I ditched a year or two ago too...

I think it's more interesting that no one mentions the name. Everyone knows exactly which site it is.....

Totally agree. I don't post a lot on this or the other site, mostly I just read. The other site was the first golf site I found, but now I rarely go to the other site. Better info without the bias here.

I agree with everyone. This site is great and the nature of this site is just so much better than the other one being discussed. There is too much bias'ness on that site and who knows how much they get paid to tell everyone "these clubs are the best clubs I have ever hit." On top of that, the only thing lime green in my possession is a lava lamp (ooops). black eye.gif

I hate to say this but to me it is childish to manipulate other people for your own personal gain. I know its how bussiness goes, but I wish people would consider ethics in these types of dealings. black eye.gif

Ah, its been a long day for me. Had to vent.

Again, I love this site and all who are here. This is my favorite thing to do when not golfing. man_in_love.gif beach.gif

Agreed.

Not sure what the numbers are, but I have seen more and more guys that used to be regular posters on BSG end up quitting.

The never-ending biased promotion of whatever club or shaft they are selling at the time is tired. I used to like the site too. It is a shame that they just cannot seem to realize how much business and site membership they are constantly losing with this approach.

Oh well, some times people are just too stubborn to make the adjustments that everyone else in the room can see should be made.

QUOTE (Hawaiianhacker @ Jun 30 2009, 10:17 PM) *
so what was your rules question?

It came out of the Kenny Perry incident. The specific issue was that Rule 13-2 allows you to improve your lie "in grounding the club lightly when addressing the ball". If you set aside whether or not KP grounded his club lightly or not, he never completely addressed the ball (until around 2 minutes later).

So the issue was does the Rule 13-2 exception apply if you do not completely address the ball.

And the response that I got was "yes - the exception still applies".

dave

ps. Not to open an old can of worms, that does not answer the question about whether or not KP's actions should have been ruled legal. It just says that the fact that he never completely addressed the ball when the suspect actions took place has no relevance.

Dont mention the name. We can still talk about it without names mentioned. Thread will be locked up if we do or all those babies will start joining in.

I didn't view this as a Rules post - really more of a "golf board operation" post. But since it got moved to a Rules forum, the following link is the actions that were in question (just for completeness).

I remember that thread - I took some crap in that one, too. Insults and innuendo everywhere. It happens.
