Tiger Woods’ Masters hopes nearly dashed by security guard

Published

on

Tiger Woods’ fans worldwide had visions of the 14-time major champion’s pursuit of a 15th crown going up in smoke, Friday. More specifically, Woods nearly went down himself when Georgia Bureau of Investigation special agent, acting as security for Woods, nearly slide tackled the golfer.

In a can’t-make-this-stuff-up moment, Woods had just played his second shot from the trees at Augusta National’s 14th hole when the special agent rushed in to attempt to restrain the descending crowd (which, it has to be said, weren’t really encroaching in a way that necessitated “shots fired” level of personal security).

Woods, who tore his right Achilles tendon in 2008, limped off after the incident but ultimately birdied the hole with a 28-foot putt.

While the special agent was eventually muzzled by his superiors, he did tell Golf.com’s Dylan Detheir

“Well, he made birdie, so I guess it all worked out. Man, I am really glad he made birdie.”

Asked about the red card-worthy offense after the round, Woods said

“It’s all good. Accidents happen. I’ve had galleries run over me. When you play in front of a lot of people, things happen.”

This “writer” of the article is a total jerk. The guy was doing his job and slipped of the wet turf. The crowd was moving fast and he was just doing his job trying to protect Tiger. The term tackle was a dumb comment as was the whole article and why even bother to publish it when what really happened was obviously an accident.

Guy over reacted and went full operator mode. Shocked he didn’t pop up with the taser ready to discharge. Unnecessary response that could have caused a serious injury. The Gestapo and SS where also doing their job, doesnt make it any more excusable.

No reason to get that aggressive with the most well behaved patrons in golf.

My friend told me someone has almost 6 figures on TW to win at 14 to 1 odds.

The Payoff would be almost $1.2 Million.

Guess it will be an interesting weekend.

Those aren’t mall cops and he was just trying to do his job.

History’s worst villians were just doing their jobs too. Don’t. Just don’t.

Comparing a bone-headed security guard at The Masters to the Gestapo or SS is just insane. You guys are clowns.

The DailyWRX: What’s buzzing on social media (5/27/2020)

Published

Who is still reeling from The Match? I am. I have watched it twice now, and like a good Seinfeld episode, I am noticing little nuances that make it that much better.

Anywho, here is what was jamming on social media.

Besides TW or Phil…with lives on the line..

I want JDay.

I think everyone agrees with this one…

Ryder Cup with zero fans…it’s just a hard no.

Can we just get these two every day?

Can we just start a world tour like Billy Joel and EJ? Let’s workshop that idea.

Ollie could take….

…a good pic of an insurance billboard. Kid has skillz.

Elk asks a great question actually……

Selfishly, I love the idea of mic’d up players, but I suspect half of these players would have to become someone else as to not “say the wrong thing.” This whole thing vexes me. How about they pick 10 players a day…8 at random and two from the stud groups. Just a thought. That would at least keep you on your best behavior for only one day. Then you can go live your life and say what you want like an adult.

What GolfWRXers are saying about Tom Brady’s 8 handicap

Published

on

@oregoniansports

In our forums, our members have been discussing Tom Brady’s golf game after watching him on Sunday during The Match: Champions for Charity.

Brady reportedly has an 8.1 handicap, and after struggling early on during The Match before coming home strong, our members have been discussing the quarterback’s game, with the majority believing nerves and the conditions got the best of him at the beginning at Medalist.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Sean2: “In his defense, he probably hasn’t played much golf. He hit some very nice shots, so obviously the swing is there.”
  • tsecor: “That shot he hit clearly shows he can play…..he seemed to be out of practice and uncomfortable out there…..id say an 8 is legit.”
  • jvincent: “Pouring rain, mic’d up, not in his comfort zone. I’m willing to give him a pass. I was really surprised he didn’t have a driver though. That’s unusual for single digit.”
  • WhatWouldPhilDo: “Weather, course difficulty, all eyes on him, hyped match, two of the best next to him, mic on him. And he isn’t playing football, so I am sure he is nervous. Not to mention, learning a new playbook, so he probably isn’t golfing every day. I’d give him the benefit of the doubt. He has played in other Pro-AMs. If he was that bad, they would’ve never had him in it.”
  • Rdriver: “Hard to judge handicap with the weather. I’m sure It would probably add 5 or more to my handicap in the rain. The greens and fairways looked perfect. That’s what I noticed more than anything.”

Charles Barkley reveals his solution to ensure golf’s successful fan-less return

Published

on

@justinriley7

Fresh from his entertaining role in the booth for Sunday’s The Match: Champions for Charity, basketball legend Charles Barkley appeared on the “Dan Patrick Show” on Tuesday where he discussed his primary idea to help tour golf make a triumphant return next month.

Just like at Medalist on Sunday, Barkley revealed that mic’d up players and allowing members of the broadcast to have on-course interaction with them is key to keeping viewers entertained during the sport’s spectator-less return.

“If you’re not going to have fans, you can’t just have guys playing golf and announcers talking. If they’re going to be successful and have great ratings – number one, they’re going to have great ratings because we need golf, we need sports – I think they should consider mic’ing the players.”

5-time major champion and golf analyst Nick Faldo is already onboard with Barkley’s idea, tweeting that he feels that tour pros wouldn’t object to it either before adding “this could be huge”.

“I think more players will do this, and if they are happy with we analysts talking direct to them, this could be huge!”

Would you like to see players mic’d up and interacting with members of the broadcast during live tournament play, WRXers?
