Zach Johnson hits ball on practice swing; Twitter has a field day

Published

on

Former Masters champion, Zach Johnson, suffered an embarrassing mishap during his second round of play on Friday while he was preparing to play his tee shot on the par-5 13th hole.

On the final hole of Amen corner, Johnson while taking a practice swing, accidentally hit his ball producing stunned reactions from both himself and his playing partners. Johnson let out an audible “oh sh_t” before adding “well, that’s embarrassing.”

Check out the incident below.

Thankfully for Johnson, he was allowed to re-tee his ball without suffering a penalty as there was no intent to play the shot.

As always, the bizarre moment provoked some witty comments from users on social media.

Check out the plaque honoring Tiger Woods’ 2008 U.S. Open heroics at Torrey Pines

Tiger Woods may not be at Torrey Pines this week, but the 15-time major champion will always be synonymous with the venue primarily because of his epic win at the 2008 U.S. Open.

The 45-year-old’s heroics that week at Torrey Pines will never be forgotten, as Woods defied all the odds on a fractured leg to win his 14th major.

To honor that victory, the USGA and city of San Diego will host a ceremony today, which will include the unveiling of a plaque celebrating Woods’ stunning 12-foot putt to force a playoff at the 2008 U.S. Open.

The ceremony will be hosted by San Diego mayor Todd Gloria, San Diego city council president Jennifer Campbell and United States Golf Association president Stu Francis and will take place at Torrey Pines’ 18th green.

Bryson on ‘Brooksy’ shouts: ‘I love it, I think it’s hilarious’

Published

on

Bryson DeChambeau will begin the defence of his U.S. Open title tomorrow at Torrey Pines amid an ongoing feud with Brooks Koepka.

The 27-year-old began receiving the heckling shouts of “Brooksy” at the Memorial where it was reported that fans participating in the shouts were being removed from the course by security.

At Torrey Pines this week, Bryson has been discussing the “Brooksy” shouts as well as the fans involved, as the rivalry between the two shows no signs of cooling off.

“I’m always going to be trying to play my game and not really worry too much about what other people are doing. I think there are just times where, if it gets outside the scope of just integrity and honour, yeah, that can get a little interesting.

At the same point in time, all of it’s been good fun. It’s been fun. Shoot, to be honest, people saying Brooksy’s name out there, I love it. I think it’s hilarious.”

The pair have been kept apart for the opening two rounds of the event, much to the disappointment of many fans. However, Bryson is already thinking ahead to the weekend, where a blockbuster pairing could grab plenty of new eyeballs.

“There’s a point where it’s great banter,. I personally love it. I think that, as time goes on, I hope on the weekend we can play against each other and compete. I think it would be fun and would be great for the game.”
