   Congrats on the win, Brendan! Well deserved.

   The Wilson Sporting Goods Company makes plenty of dough from other sports. Companies like Callaway and Titleist have to pour so much money in to player contracts because they are strictly golf and have always been so. Wilson, Mizuno, Bridgestone, Srixon, etc are diversified enough that they don’t have to go this route. If TM will pay Steele to use one of their drivers and it’s a good fit, why wouldn’t Steele take the money. It’s a great club. It’s not NECESSARILY an indictment on the quality of Wilson’s woods. Or Mizuno, etc.

   Perhaps if Nike would have followed Wilson’s player endorsement arrangement, we’d still be able to buy new Nike clubs.

   Nice to see an honest blade in the bag of a young player. I keep wishing for a comeback for the venerable Wilson brand here in North America, I still remember the red and white scripted bags of many greats over the years. I am still gaming a set of Wilson Pi5 irons (Padrig Harrington used these for a major or two), Wilson wedges and a wonderful and fully trusted 8802 putter that I found in a barrel back in ’95.

   Wilson golf clubs used to be excellent and desirable back in the 50s, 60s and 70s, but not anymore. Golf club pro shops and big box stores either refuse to carry Wilson clubs, or only carry a very limited selection. For the last 50 years Wilson golf clubs have been thought of as inferior, and only as grade D quality [at best].

     Better than most. They don’t have the budget that major golf OEM’s have. But if TaylorMade, Ping, Titleist, Callaway wanna get into manufacturing footballs, soccer balls, gloves etc…

     Not 50. More like 30. And not really grade D, if you’re talking about their top-of-the-line sets. It’s just that they went so hard after the masses at Kmart et al., and somebody decided they didn’t need to keep up with the marketing efforts of the new kids in town in the ’80s and following. I don’t know how long this ended up happening, but for some time they were also reluctant to to get involved with golf discount stores because some of the leadership wanted to stay loyal to the traditional “pro at your club fits you and sells you your equipment” ethic. So for quite a few years, the places you would find Wilsons were at a pro shop (for the high end) or at Sears, Kmart, etc. (for the bargain-barrel stuff). They were all but unfindable at discount stores, which were becoming the big distributor of clubs in general. So Wilsons were all but invisible to a lot of new and medium-new-and-improving players. If you were a really good player (I was a plus-2), you could always find a set if you looked hard enough, but that’s not exactly the best marketing model. So as Taylor Made and Callaway et al. were taking off, Wilson was the stodgy old guy sitting on the sidelines with a martini.

     But there is no way anybody would call some of their good forgings in the ’70s and ’80s “inferior” or “grade D.” There was actually only a short time when they had trouble putting out a good-player’s club that was as good as the best of other manufacturer’s. It’s just that the bottom dropped out of their visibility and reputation. For quite a while in the U.S., unless you were a good player that demanded them and wanted to go look for them, the masses thought of Wilson as the low-end Kmart club because that’s what they saw.

       AMEN, I think that the younger generation has only know TM,CALLY,Srixon,etc.
       But Wilson Staff has set the bar high for all others to follow and the others still have a long way to go to match what WilsonStaff has done . Their product is better than any out there. It’s the Name in Golf that has outlasted many others 100+ years and has stood for being the BEST . Wilson has a file with many of the worlds greatest golfers specs through out the years. Have you noticed that TM is on the SALE BLOCK? WHY ? They haven’t lasted 100 yrs+ years! The way CALLY is buying up companies how long will they last? They have the best Irons , wedges, and now the Triton Driver the most adjustable driver on the market with a new Tour ball that is being put in play this year that will meet any on tour .. STAFF is BACK ! FEAR THE RED AND BLACK !!!!!

   Congrats to Brendan and Wilson Staff: The wedge setup is great, drop the callay club . I wonder if he will be playing the new Driver coming out soon from Wilson?

   Any bag that has clubs from 4 different manufacturers is interesting. That combined with 2 lob wedges makes this one of the most unique WITBs that I’ve ever seen.
