Updated: New Graphite Design Tour AD-TP shafts spotted
Graphite Design’s line of Tour AD shafts are some of the most popular driver and wood shafts on professional golf tours around the world, and they’re in the clubs of top-ranked players in the game. And there’s multiple models with which you may be familiar:
- Tour AD-DI (The Orange one)
- Tour AD-DI (The Black one)
- Tour AD-MJ (The Black and Yellow one)
- Tour AD-BB (The Blue one)
- Tour AD-GP (The Turquoise one)
At The Barclays 2016, we spotted a new addition to the catalog of shafts (and colors). From the pictures, it appears they will be called Graphite Design Tour AD-TP — or in golf equipment slang, “The Silver and Gold one.”
We saw three shafts on the range of The Barclays; Tour AD-TP 6, 7 and 8, each of them X-Flexes. We don’t yet know their intended launch characteristics or new technologies, but we will keep you updated as information becomes available.
For now, check out more photos and join the conversation and speculation about the shafts here.
Info update (8/23, 9:00 p.m.)
The new Tour AD-TP golf shafts are made with “Fast Taper Technology,” a new design that has a “faster taper rate from the lower-mid section to the tip of the shaft,” according to a Pro Choice Golf Shafts representative. He continues:
The new Tour AD TP shaft has a medium stiffness starting at the handle thru the mid-section of the shaft and a stiff tip profile to promote a mid to mid/high launch condition and low spin.
They are made from Torayca T1100G carbon-fiber pre-preg, and Nanoalloy in the tip of the shaft for stability and control, according to the representative. Also, like other Tour AD shafts, the TP versions are made with aerospace quality 50t carbon-fiber materials.
The Tour AD-TP shafts are tagged with a $500 MSRP, and will be available in the following specs:
- 40 grams: R1, R2 and S-flex
- 50 grams: R1, R2 and S-Flex
- 60 grams: SR, S and X-Flex
- 70 grams: S and X-Flex
- 80 grams: S and X-Flex

From the Forums: I need more forgiveness in my irons – Looking for recommendations
In our forums, our members have been discussing the most forgiving irons currently on the market. WRXer ‘TheShark1’ is on the hunt for a new set of irons, saying:
“Currently gaming the Mizuno Pro 225’s but think I need more forgiveness in my irons. My well struck shots are real nice, but my mishits are not performing as good as I had hoped anymore. I really like hollow body irons so if I could find something more forgiving in a hollow body iron that would be great.
Open to any and all recommendations other than Ping. Can’t hit Ping irons at all.”
And our members have been sharing their best suggestions in our forum.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- AvidSwampThing66: “Another vote for the super forgiving and fast Paradym irons. They look really good for being a GI iron.”
- bobfoster: “I just went from MP20 MMCs to the new 245s in my scoring irons (just played my first round with them today). If you have a chance to try them, you might find them worth a serious look.”
- vman: “Shoot me down, but spend the money on lessons.”
- J_Tizzle: “i525s are great off the heel in my opinion.”

For me, the AD-DI is hands down the best shaft I’ve ever hit in a driver. The only problem is I’m still saving my money to afford to buy one! Every time I get almost enough money I end up buying a new putter or wedge instead!
