GolfWRX spotted the newest offering by Ping to their Tour Players. Here are some sneak peeks at the still under wraps wedge from the PGA Tour. Here is Bill Lunde’s early release wedge. Not available to mere mortals yet. Gorge with the groove design under the name does suggest some innovation attempt from Ping. No news other than the this info we found last week.

TOUR WEDGE – Along with the Driver this week on tour Ping is showcasing the new “Gorge Grooves” which are precision milled at PING’s plant in Phoenix to hold extreme tolerances to maximize the groove’s performance. Unfortunately manufacturing has variation. To positively guarantee you will pass the groove ruling during a competition the manufactures add a little buffer for lack of better words. This buffer while small could make the difference in the balls spin rate during play. Ping says they have capitalized and engineered a way to cut the grooves closer to that rule. In short… more spin and more bite legally!

Higher lofts are offered in three sole options to match swing-style (steep or shallow) and playing conditions (soft, hard, etc.). Expected to hit golf shops by mid-August and pricing was not available.

Sorry, my e mail posted before I was done.

I just got a Gorge 60* SS. I wish I never gave up my Tour S TS w/ KBS shaft. How does ping sell this wedge with the CFS shaft that is way too light and short on feel, for more $ than the Tour S and the Rustique that has WAY better performance and options. Cant wait till the sun comes up to take this thing back and put another Tour S TS back in the bag. I dumped the CFS shafts that came stock in my I20 irons and replaced them w/ TT S-300′S and it’s like a new club. Whoever comes up with these dumb ideas at ping needs to be put out to pasture!
