Fujikura debuts new Ventus Blue shaft for 2024
Fujikura is reprising its massively popular Ventus line of shafts for 2024, beginning with Ventus Blue. The company touts the same feel as the original mid-launch/low-spin Ventus Blue profile with performance increases.
From Velocore to Velocore+
Leveraging the DNA of the 2018 Ventus Blue shaft, the 2024 Ventus creates an even more stable and consistent platform thanks to Velocore+.
As a refresher, introduced with the original Ventus, Velocore is a multi-material bias core construction technique designed to deliver clubface stability and more center-face contact for tighter down-range dispersion.
The next generation of Velocore is Velocore+, which sees the multi-material bias core re-engineered for greater feel and stability. According to Fujikura, Velocore+ delivers even tighter dispersion and greater ball speeds.
Brian Knudson, GolfWRX’s Resident Club Junkie, caught up with Fujikura’s Spencer Reynolds, the company’s product and brand manager, to learn more at the PGA Show. Check out their chat below.
What Fujikura says
“Ventus launched on global Tours in 2018 and has been the absolute standard in wood shaft performance ever since,” says Spencer Reynolds. “With this iteration, we set out to improve the original model by incorporating the new material and technology advancements we’ve pioneered over the last six years.”
“In player testing we achieved our target launch and spin numbers consistent with the original Ventus Blue, but increased ball speeds and tightened dispersion, giving players enhanced performance in the areas that matter most. More speed, more distance and improved accuracy.”

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
