GolfWRX Launch Report: Srixon Z-Star, Z-Star XV, Z-Star Diamond, Z-Star Divide

Published

on

What you need to know: This is Srixon’s eighth-generation Z-Star Series golf ball. Improvements to the line center around a new FastLayer DG Core, which is soft at the center and firm at the edge, new Spin Skin+, which offers even more bite into grooves on irons and wedges for more spin, and Speed Dimple design, which reduces drag and offers more lift for greater overall distance. In simplest terms, Z-Star XV is the max distance ball, Z-Star is the max spin ball, and Z-Star XV is the blended distance/spin ball.

2023 Srixon Z-Star: What’s new, key technology

Spin Skin+ is paired with an extra thin urethane cover for more stopping power on full shots and an increase in friction on greenside efforts. Accordingly, the new Z-Star offers “unmatched performance and feel” according to the company.

The new FastLayer DG Core is firmer at the exterior and softer in the center to deliver both feel and speed.

Designed for easy launch and better performance in the wind, Speed Dimple’s 338 aerodynamic dimples create a low drag coefficient designed to help the ball stay on target and maintain distance.

Additional model details

Z-Star: Three-piece design. .6mm urethane cover. 92 compression. Mid-high launching. 90+ MPH swing speeds.

Z-Star Diamond: Three-piece design. .6mm urethane cover. 102 compression. Mid-high launching. 90+ MPH swing speeds.

Z-Star XV: Three-piece design. .5mm urethane cover. 102 compression. Mid launching. 100+ MPH swing speeds.

What Srixon says

“Finding the right golf ball for your game is just as important as finding the right irons or driver,” said Brian Schielke, General Manager of Srixon. “It’s the one piece of equipment you use on every single shot, which is why technological advances like the new Spin Skin+ and FastLayer DG Core give players confidence that their ball is going to react how it should and excel in every category that matters – more spin, bite, and speed.”

One thing the Srixon golf balls need to improve is the durability of the golf ball. They are very susceptible to major scratches.

I believe you have the trajectory of the Z Star and Z Star XV mixed up. Z-Star should be Mid and Z Star-XV should be Mid-high.
