The golfers Tianlang Guan beat in Round 1
Tianlang Guan, the youngest golfer in history to play in the Masters, opened with a 73 in Round 1 — shattering the expectations many had for the 14-year-old who earned an exemption to the tournament with his win at the 2012 Asia Pacific Amateur.
Guan bogeyed five holes, including his first of the day, but made four birdies (Nos. 3, 10, 13 and 18) to shoot 1-over-par.
Even more stunning than his score, which positions him in the middle of the pack as he tries to make the cut in the world’s most famous golf tournament, is the golfers the 8th-grader beat on Thursday, which includes 2012 Masters Champion Bubba Watson and nine other major champions, as well as 12 PGA Tour winners.
Here’s a complete list of the players Guan beat in Round 1. Major Championship winners are bolded, while PGA Tour winners are in italics.

Can’t everyone just be happy for this boy ? This is just amazing what he is doing and yes, he is only going to get better with age as long as injuries don’t occur along the way. I think it would be neat to see a cult following of asian players start to contend weekly on the PGA just like on the LPGA. You can say whatever you want but those asian people work very hard and are dedicated ! Much respect to them all.

Ben Curtis is a major champion, he should be in bold.
Also:
Ty Tryon.
That is all.

Can we start calling him TL Guan or something? I’m sorry, but for his sake, a name like Tianlang will never get him to the level of popularity in the US (where you can actually make serious money playing). Other asians players have done same thing… KT Kim, KJ Choi, YE Yang…
I want this kid to make the most of his potential.

Same with Kevin Na. He never could have caught on here in the U.S. with the name of Kevin Narayanan. Get with it, kid!

kid got lucky. hopefully he doesn’t collapse tomorrow and makes the cut.

agreed. i just don’t think he has the mental game for this. and at his height and weight he really needs to hit the gym and put on some mass.

You are both clueless.
@billy-It’s not luck. It’s hard work, skill, and dedication. This isn’t his first golf tourney.
@marcus-Saying that this kid needs to “hit the gym and put on some mass” is completely wrong. A kid his age should stay off the of the weights completely. Cardio or resistance training is one thing…Mass/body building could actually be counterproductive to his body growing/developing over time. This kid is 5’9 and looks to be about 160lbs. Would you be saying the same thing about Sergio Garcia in regards to his height/weight?? Because those are Sergio’s measurements as well.
Think before you type.

definitely disagree, have you even seen him play. very mature for his age. here is a player, that knows he isnt pulling out a 7 iron, and is content with a 5wood, keeps to his gameplan and shoots 73 at the masters

He’s 14!!!! How many teens (14-19) have the head game to compete with seasoned veterans? As for his physical stature, hes 14!!!! I’m pretty sure he’ll experience a growth spurt or two before he tops out. Even if he doesn’t make the cut, he’s already proven that he has enough of the maturity to put up a respectable number in one of the most prestigious events on the planet while being the youngest ever competitor. Guan’s 5 wood is probably Bubba’s 7/8 iron and be (Guan) managed to shoot a better number than the long hitting tour polished defending champion.

It’s just one day, but still super impressive for a 14 year old! This is playing on pro length setup! Damn. 8th grade! Still stunned.

It was an impressive start from the young man.
You can see once he fills out a bit more with age he is only going to get better and better.
