WITB Time Machine: Hideki Matsuyama’s winning WITB, 2017 WM Phoenix Open
Hideki Matsuyama repeated as champion at the 2017 WM Phoenix Open. The 2016 winner again needed extra holes to dispose of a challenger (this time, Webb Simpson). He clinched the win with a birdie on the fourth playoff hole at TPC Scottsdale’s 18th. Matsuyama had fired a final-round 66 to force the playoff. With this victory, he became the first player since 1975 to win back-to-back titles at the Arizona event.
