Spotted: Titleist TSR 2-wood “mini driver”

Published

on

There has been a big demand recently for mini drivers — otherwise known as larger, lower-spin, fairway woods — from every manufacturer. This week at The Players, we spotted Titleist with a TSR 2-wood that definitely fits into the mini driver category.

The TSR is marked with “2W” on the hosel, but when we looked on the USGA conforming list website, it is listed as a 13-degree head. Titleist’s SureFit hosel system is in place, so you can remove 0.75 degrees or add 1.5 degrees of loft, while also being able to adjust the lie angle.

To go further with the adjustments, the TSR has two movable and interchangeable weights on the sole and back of the club, similar to the setup of the TSR4 driver. Usually, this setup is used to move a heavier weight to the back for added launch, spin, and forgiveness. Moving the heavier weight forward to the sole typically will lower the spin and launch for the players who need it.

This TSR looks to have a much deeper face and larger size than the current TSR2+ fairway that is currently available. The club has no markings, and Titleist isn’t dishing details yet, about its construction so we don’t know if it is a titanium head, steel, or a combination of a titanium face and steel body.

I’ve gamed three of the four TM iterations of their mini-driver. The current one is the best yet. On the launch monitor, it gets 10-15 yards less (carry and roll) than my TS3 driver. But on the course it is a fairway finder. Depending on the course and the tees, I can play an entire round with my driver never leaving the bag.

great looking club. I am hoping it is smaller than the Taylormade mini driver stuff. More larger fairway than smaller driver.. IF that makes sense.

This will be a pure mini driver… already have the TSR2+ to fill that spot.

Rickie Fowler’s new putter: Standard-length Odyssey Jailbird 380 in custom orange

Editor’s note: This is an excerpt from a piece our Andrew Tursky originally wrote for PGATour.com’s Equipment Report. Head over there for the full article.

…The Jailbird craze hasn’t really slowed down in 2024, either. According to Odyssey rep Joe Toulon, there are about 18-20 Jailbird putter users on the PGA TOUR.

Most recently, Akshay Bhatia won the 2024 Valero Texas Open using a broomstick-style Odyssey Jailbird 380 putter and Webb Simpson is switching into a replica of that putter at the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship.

Now, Fowler, who essentially started the whole Jailbird craze, is making a significant change to his putter setup.

Fowler, who has had a couple weeks off since the 2024 RBC Heritage, started experimenting with a new, custom-orange Jailbird 380 head that’s equipped with a standard 35-inch putter build, rather than his previous 38-inch counter-balanced setup.

According to Fowler, while he still likes the look and forgiveness of his Jailbird putter head, he’s looking to re-incorporate more feel into his hands during the putting stroke.

He told GolfWRX.com on Tuesday at the Wells Fargo Championship that the 38-inch counterbalanced setup “served its purpose” by helping him to neutralize his hands during the stroke, but now it’s time to try the standard-length putter with a standard-size SuperStroke Pistol Tour grip to help with his feel and speed control.

Although Fowler was also spotted testing standard-length mallets from L.A.B. Golf and Axis1 on Tuesday, he confirmed that the custom Odyssey Jailbird 380 is the putter he’ll use this week at the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship.
