My new holy grail??? Mizuno MP 59’s

Whoa. I’m just speechless with these irons. Just speechless. Seriously….

So I see them in the the Golfmart today while my tires are getting changed. Saw them last night in Golf Digest and just had to try them. I’ve been lusting after the PING Anser irons for quite some time, but wanted to try them on a whim.

Looks: THESE are what an iron looks like. Whoa. While I love my Diablo Forged immensely, these irons are just so simple and pure at setup. The transition from hosel to face is so so smooth, and seamless. Just the right amount of offset, even in the PW! And I’ve never been a fan of the Mizzy PW, but these are slick. I just can’t believe how pleasing these are to my eye. Wow!

Feel: okay, so I’ve been a convert to forged for quite sometime. My Diablo Forged have converted me. Really. And while the Anser’s and AP2’s are kinda a soft thud, I’m finding a hard time finding the correct words to describethe feel of these. The word “pure” can be so overused these days, but it’s accurate assertion for these. Dang. Even with my least favorite shaft, the DGS 300’s, the feel is amazing. Mizzy is on to SOMETHING with these.

Dispersion: well. These won hands down. On the LM, I could put a blanket over my shots. 4 iron, 6-iron, 7-iron, 9-iron. Didnt matter. Just such a tight dispersion. Wow.

Distance: since I hit them on a LM, won’t go into details, but let ms say I was impressed. Very impressed.

All in all, I’m thoroughly impressed. I want to use the Mizzy iron fitter to get the correct shaft, although heck, I may just go with the DGS300’s.

I’ll take pics soon as a comparion with others.

WOW!!!

Mate had these since November playing off 20 played to 17 last week in the wind, best iron ever,I have Nippon ns pro 950 stiff 1 degree flat, ball flight is perfect not to low, distance is very good 6 iron 160metres or 175 yards, feel amazing, don’t let anyone tell you these are for single figure players that’s crap,so long as you can strike the ball, not ugly like pings etc which look like ugly piece of metal

These Mizzy’s are so clean. I’m still fighting the demon in me that decided to go with the 53’s rather than the 59’s. I’m an intermediate player that shoots anywhere from 84-92. I did hit the 53’s better consistantly but like look/workability better of the 59’s. Any suggestions if you think the 59’s would be a good fit for me to switch to? Or are they really a “players” club?

I have tried these in the store as well and was very impressed. I have played Mizunos for a number of years and can’t seem to get away from them. I need new irons like the proverbial hole in the head, but these have created a serious itch.

Why Ben Griffin is making the surprising switch to a Maxfli golf ball

Published

on

Ben Griffin might be a little too young to remember some of the iconic Maxfli golf balls that won on tour, but that isn’t stopping him from putting the newest Tour X ball from the brand in play. Today, Maxfli and Griffin announced an exclusive partnership that will see the PGA Tour player using the company’s four-piece golf ball.

While Griffin might be the first PGA Tour player to put a new Maxfli golf ball in play, he isn’t the first profesional golfer to do so. Lexi Thompson has been playing the Maxfli Tour golf ball on the LPGA Tour since the beginning of the 2024.

We caught up with Ben at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in Texas this week to ask him about the new ball switch.

“I was able to finally get my hands on some and try it and immediately I saw faster ball speed with the driver, which is always something every golfer wants to see.

“Then I had to test a lot around the greens and test irons, test spins, test everything like that. Basically, I came to the conclusion that I thought this was probably one of the best golf balls for my game.

“And so I decided to make it official and partner with them and very excited to help kind of launch this golf ball and see where it takes us.”

Griffin’s ball of choice is the Maxfli Tour X, a four-piece golf ball that is made for highly skilled players that want consistent distance off the driver and spin around the green. An updated core design helps add the ball speed that Griffin mentioned and two ionomer mantle layers separate low spin driver shots from higher spin iron and wedge shots. Maxfli uses Center Of center-of-gravity balancing to ensure each ball has consistent flight in the air and roll on the green. Like all golf balls on tour, the Tour X features a cast urethane cover for maximum performance, and it has a tetrahedron dimple pattern to enhance aerodynamics.

It is exciting to see a golf ball at a lower price point — $39.99 at Golf Galaxy — being used by a top 100 ranked player in the world like Ben Griffin, and equipment junkies will be keenly watching his performance with the new ball.
