What GolfWRXers are saying about the new golf ball rollback

In our forums, our members have been discussing the big talking point this week in the sport – the golf ball rollback. On Wednesday, the USGA and R&A announced that the rollback will come into effect in 2028 for professionals and 2030 for amateur golfers. (Read all the key details on the announcement here.)
In our forums, our members have been having their say on the news. Here are a few posts from a lively discussion, but make sure to check out the entire thread and have your say at the link below.
- mosesgolf: “Not too crazy about the ruling, but then again, as I’ve gotten older, maybe I’ll lose about 5 yards. I can live with that. IMO, scoring won’t change with the new ball and equipment manufacturers will likely make lower spinning, more forgiving clubs by 2030 anyhow.”
- Lefors: “So stupid – easiest way to handle this would have been to not allow pros to use tee pegs. Problem solved – zero cost, easy to enforce and no change for amateurs.”
- dwboston: “Both the PGA of America and the PGA Tour have issues with the methodology. PGA of America specifically mentions the detrimental impact to recreational golfers and recommends that the swing speed used for the test needs to be moderated. There’s no way this gets implemented in its current form.”
- bekgolf: “I’m not an elite player, I don’t want my game being changed because a few elites think everyone hits it too far. I like golf the way it is, it’s fun, so why does an appointed (non elected) person feel that I need to change? Why do they think they need to solve a problem that is non existent?”
