Justin Thomas slams Will Zalatoris’ mentor for ‘egregious and aggressive’ tweets attacking NBC duo

On Sunday, Will Zalatoris was able to outlast Sepp Straka in a three-hole playoff to earn his first PGA TOUR victory at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

During the tournament, Zalatoris’ mentor and creator of DECADE Golf, Scott Fawcett went off on Twitter in regard to some comments made about Zalatoris by Dan Hicks and Brad Faxon on the broadcast.

Fawcett went on to delete the tweets, but Justin Thomas saved them and later called Fawcett out on his harsh words.

Fawcett has been working with Zalatoris for years and even caddied for him while he was an amateur.

Back in 2015, Zalatoris spoke about how influential Fawcett was on his golf game and at the time said he “has changed the way I play golf.”

“The first time he caddied for me, I told him I picked up 25 years of experience in four rounds. it’s kind of a new way of looking at things, and it’s really helped me.”

Zalatoris also raved about Fawcett back in 2020 saying, “He practically has been an older brother to me. I know a lot of other players have the same feeling about him considering the amount of time he invests in each player.”

Fawcett seemed to take issue with a few of the broadcast’s comments about the 25-year-old. Among them was one comment saying that Zalatoris was being “gifted the win” and another that said he had a “wobbly putter” due to the pressure-packed situation.

Fawcett replied to Thomas’ tweet shortly after.

JT responded again, claiming Faxon wasn’t involved in Thomas’ decision to call Fawcett out.

Amongst the chaos, Brad Faxon took to Twitter to denounce Fawcett’s comments saying: So all you college coaches, and high school coaches this is the guy you want to hire to teach your players? Nice. Scott Fawcett credit to the game” before thanking JT for getting involved: “Thanks Justin Thomas, not sure how this is good for anybody. If Scott has helped Will Zalatoris, he will let everyone know.”

Bad look for Scott, no doubt.

Probably why he deleted the tweets.

JT should know very well what it’s like to wish he’d never said something. Surprised he jumped at the chance to pounce.

Yes, the commentators are with NBC and GOLF Channel are awful, at least that ass Tirico wasn’t there! But this Fawcett is also an idiot, kinda like that Sean guy who FKd Up Woods swing. If coaches were so good they’d play.

What if you say those things hoping for someone to take a poke, dodge the poke, then utterly destroy the dude? Been there, done that…. First one to throw is usually first one to pay regardless. Can’t handle the language, just remove your ears from the words bro.

Nice job JT. I’m glad you said something. There was no need for the F Bombs, the commentators were doing their job. They have an opinion and others are entitled to their opinion. F you and F off is taking it to extremes. IMO

JT had no business getting involved. He of all people know what it’s like to say something and wish he hadn’t. Remember the hot mic that caught him uttering a homophobic slur after a missed 5 footer a couple years ago? No excuse for the language Fawcett used. It was crewed, childish, and extremely uncalled for. But JT coming in to pounce seemed misplaced at best.

You’re response here is really not that different to Twitter. You’re online giving your response to a topic. Kind of what Twitter is but yeah there’s a toxicity to it.

Hard to say anything good about Fawcett. He has shown who and what he is. In his own words, “I’m just doing what I do.” If this is what he does who wants to be attached to that.

Zaltoris will need to dump him to make the next leap forward. His usefulness has reached its expiration date.

I have no idea who this Fawcett guy is but goes to show drinking, Sunday and Twiter do NOT mix.

Suspect he woke up today going “ohhhh noooo… what did I say???!!”

‘It’s a slap in the face’ – Patrick Reed hits out at DP World Tour over treatment at latest events

This week, Patrick Reed is playing in the Cazoo Open De France at Le Golf National. The course is where the 2018 Ryder Cup was held. The European Team won the trophy, and Reed was only able to muster one point in three matches.

This week however, Patrick Reed was the betting favorite entering play. Despite being somewhat of a regular on the DP World Tour, Reed feels as though the treatment he’s received this week has been “a slap in the face”.

Reed is by far the biggest name in the field, but wasn’t asked to play in the pro-am or conduct a pre-tournament press conference. Of course, this treatment is a result of the 33 year old’s decision to join LIV Golf.

According to The Telegraph, Reed told Journal du Golf: “It’s a slap in the face not to invite me to do a press conference here, or as happened in Wentworth, not to have me play the pro-am and all those things. At the end of the day, it’s just my golf that I have control over. I’m here to support the Tour, France and all the people who are here.”

“But I don’t see why we can’t move from the LIV to the European Tour like we usually move from the PGA Tour to the European Tour. A lot of players understand and support my choice and have nothing against me. I didn’t feel any animosity against me from them.”

While there have been some players who have publicly stated they have no issues with the players who’ve chosen to go to LIV, there have also been a number of players who have done the opposite.

LIV golfers are currently able to participate on the DP World Tour due to a temporary court order until it is resolved legally. A decision on their eligibility going forward is expected to be given in February.

Congress members blast ‘pimp’ Greg Norman in meeting at Capitol Hill

On Wednesday, LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman met with members of congress to discuss LIV’s current dispute with the PGA TOUR.

It didn’t go very well.

According to multiple sources, Republican Tim Burchett of Tennessee walked out of the meeting due to an inability to understand Norman due to his accent as well as the “propaganda” he felt Norman was sharing.

Burchett later sent a tweet himself about the meeting with “The Shark”.

Burchett wasn’t the only member of congress to give Norman a hard time.. Chip Roy of Texas said to reporters of the meeting: “Don’t come in here and act like you’re doing some great thing, while you’re pimping a billion dollars of Saudi Arabian money,”

It’s unclear whether or not any of the lawmakers gave Norman the reception he was looking for, but he did later thank them for meeting with him via an Instagram post.

Golf Channel analyst roasts Patrick Reed during Presidents Cup coverage

The Presidents Cup gets underway today, with the U.S expected to dominate an International side heavily depleted due to LIV Golf defections.

A mainstay in the U.S. side in both the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup, Patrick Reed is another who misses out, but it hasn’t stopped Rich Lerner of Golf Channel from taking a swipe at the divisive Texan during coverage this week.

While showing a highlight of Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed celebrating after a Ryder Cup match victory, Lerner weighed in cheekily saying:

“Once known as ‘Captain America’, Reed is now paid by the Saudis to play golf.”

One commenter piled on, tweeting that Lerner should be careful of a lawsuit, referring to Reed’s defamation suit against Brandel Chamblee and the Golf Channel.

Reed is currently in action this week at the Open De France at Le Golf National.
