Bettinardi releases 1-of-274 custom “BB1Fitz” US Open putters commemorating Matt Fitzpatrick’s 2022 win
Matt Fitzpatrick won his first ever major championship at the recent 2022 U.S. Open at The Country in Brookline, Mass., with a score of 6-under-par 274, using an ultra custom Bettinardi putter.
In 2020, Fitzpatrick switched into a Bettinardi prototype that was inspired by his previous Yes! Tracy II putter, which featured iconic C-grooves (concentric) on the face.
Speaking with GolfWRX in 2020, Sam Bettinardi, current Vice President of Bettinardi Golf, had this to say about Fitzpatrick’s switch:
“When we work with PGA Tour players, who are the most discriminate minds in the game of golf, they have extremely specific requests. Due to our ability to craft everything in house with exacting tolerances/specifications, we honored Matt Fitzpatrick’s request by duplicating his current gamer…Matt was struggling to find backups for his putter he has been using since high school because his old company is not in business anymore. He wanted to work with us, because he knew we could make this request happen. To have a player like Matt, 24th in the world and a very solid putter overall, feel comfortable to switch from a putter he’s used since he’s been 16, is a testament to our craft and we feel privileged to have his trust to get it done.”
Since then, Fitzpatrick has been using the one-off custom Bettinardi, and it finally got its first U.S. Open win.
To commemorate the unique putter and historic win, Bettinardi is releasing a limited run of 274 putters, called the 2022 BB1Fitz.
Fitzpatrick spoke on the putter and sent a message to his fans in a recent Instagram post on Bettinardi’s account:

“Hey fans of Bettinardi, Matthew Fitzpatrick here. Just wanted to send a short message out to everyone. Using my Bettinardi for my U.S. Open win was fantastic. They’ve been a great help to me when I was in between putters, they managed to make this beautiful thing. And it’s worked a treat so far. In honor of my U.S. Open win, Bettinardi will be releasing a limited run of 274 putters, in honor of the score that I won on. They’re currently in production, and they’ll be available to preorder on Bettinardi.com very soon. So thanks for all your support and see you soon.”

What’s the perfect mini-driver/shaft combo? – GolfWRXers discuss
In our forums, our members have been discussing Mini-Drivers and accompanying shafts. WRXer ‘JamesFisher1990’ is about to purchase a BRNR Mini and is torn on what shaft weight to use, and our members have been sharing their thoughts and set ups in our forum.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- PARETO: “New BRNR at 13.5. Took it over to TXG (Club Champ but TXG will always rule) in Calgary for a fit. Took the head down to 12, stuck in a Graphite Design AD at 3 wood length and 60g. Presto- numbers that rivaled my G430Max but with waaaaay tighter dispersion. Win.”
- driveandputtmachine: “Still playing a MIni 300. The head was only 208, so I ordered a heavier weight and play it at 3 wood length. I am playing a Ventus Red 70. I play 70 grams in my fairways. I use it mainly to hit draws off the tee. When I combine me, a driver, and trying to hit a draw it does not work out well most of the time. So the MIni is for that. As an aside, I have not hit the newest BRNR, but the previous model wasn’t great off the deck. The 300 Mini is very good off the deck.”
- JAM01: “Ok, just put the BRNR in the bag along side a QI10 max and a QI10 3 wood. A load of top end redundancy. But, I have several holes at my two home courses where the flight and accuracy of the mini driver helps immensely. Mine is stock Proforce 65 at 13.5, I could see a heavier shaft, but to normal flex, as a nice alternative.”

Not quite!
It’s not the same as Fitz’s Yes!
Different feel and roll than the Yes!
I have both. 7 Yes! CNC milled putters. And Garsen Grips.
I don’t putt with the Bettinardi. It’s nice but…
It’s Sitting in my office since last year.
