Pro explains how Saudi Golf League could become the biggest tour in the world

While many professional golfers have cast doubt on the potential success of the Greg Norman backed LIV Golf series, DP World Tour player Matthew Southgate sees it a bit differently.
On this week’s Sky Sports Golf Podcast, Southgate said that just because the best players aren’t leaving the PGA Tour right now doesn’t mean that they won’t in the future.
“The most overlooked thing with the Saudi tour at the minute is that everybody is focusing on the players of today and nobody is thinking of the players of tomorrow,” the 33-year-old said on the podcast. “Five years ago, we didn’t know Bob MacIntyre, we didn’t know Scottie Scheffler, we don’t know Viktor Hovland or either of the Hojgaard brothers. When you start going through the list of players who weren’t on Tour five years ago, it’s quite significant.
“Should they have a stumbling block today because they can’t get the players of today, there’s nothing stopping them producing the players of tomorrow. That’s where it’s tough.”
On the PGA Tour, it costs young players money to go to Q school and try to compete to make it while earning a small amount if they are successful.
“If the Saudis had the money to put on a free tour school with a decent prize fund, then why would you not go and try?” Southgate said on the podcast. “If they’re going to say they’ll have ‘X’ number of tournaments with ‘X’ prize fund, as an 18-, 19-, 20-year-old, then why wouldn’t you go give it a crack?
“Everyone goes to PGA EuroPro Tour school to go and play for 10 grand a week, so why on earth would you not go to the Saudi tour school and earn much more? All they’re doing is taking a punt that you’re going to be the best players in 2026, 2027 or 2030. Rome wasn’t built in a day.”
The LIV Golf series currently claims to have 15 of the world’s top 100 golfers committed to play. Greg Norman has also said he is sending invites to the world’s best amateur players. If he gets some of them to commit, that may change the equation and cause a difficult situation for the PGA Tour.
“If Saudi were to put on a tour school for the youngsters and start to produce their own players, which would be easy enough for them to do, then as soon as you ban one current player going to play, there you can’t possibly invite a future player coming back to play,” Southgates said on the podcast.
“Let’s just say the next Bob MacIntyre is 18 years old, and he’s sat somewhere in Scotland today. He goes to the Saudi Tour school and wins, or gets an invite to play on the Saudi Tour, then in five years’ time, he’s world No. 1. You can’t then invite him back to play Scottish Open if you’re banning everybody else already on that Tour from going off to play in the Saudi events.”
“Are you protecting now and actually opening up a gateway to golfing hell in five years? If you say to Dustin Johnson, you can’t go and play in this because we’ll ban you, then you can’t possibly invite someone from the Saudi tour to go and play in your tournaments.
“If they then produce the best players in the world, you instantly become second and third in the world. That’s five to 10 years of patiently waiting to produce your own players, and that’s scary.”

‘I think that’s a mistake’ – Brandel Chamblee questions surprise Luke Donald decision at Ryder Cup

For the first time since 1993, the European team has chosen to open the Ryder Cup with Foursomes rather than Fourball.
When asked why he made the decision, European captain Luke Donald indicated that he wanted to get out to a “fast start”.
“It’s pretty simple really, we feel like as a team, statistically, we are stronger in foursomes within our team than we would be in fourballs.”
“Why not get off to a fast start? That’s it.”
However, Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee has questioned the decision calling it a “mistake” on Golf Central.
“It is very important to win the first session from a momentum standpoint. But it’s significantly more important to lead after the first day. If you go back to 1997 to present, starting with fourballs allowed them to end with a strength on the first day, and mostly they’ve dominated in the foursomes.
“If you win the first session, you win the Ryder Cup about 60% of the time. But if you win the first day, you win 70% of the time. So in one fell swoop, he’s potentially thrown away a 10% chance, which is a monumental advantage given to the European side, and I think that’s a mistake.”
Team Europe shared their practice groups on Monday, giving a hint at what the potential pairings will be.

Report: Solheim Cup star was dropped by captain on Friday afternoon for refusing to play with two of her teammates

According to a report, Celine Boutier asked for a partner change after her partner, Georgia Hall, underperformed during morning session of the Solheim Cup on Friday.
Boutier and Hall lost to the United States pairing of Andrea Lee and Danielle Kang one up.
Apparently, the European team captain Suzann Petterson obliged the request, and offered to put the Frenchwoman with Leona Maguire in the afternoon, but Boutier didn’t like that pairing either.
The report indicates that after Boutier refused to play with Maguire, she was sat by Petterson for the afternoon session. It did seem odd that one of Europe’s best players sat in the afternoon session after going down 4-0 after foursomes.
The report comes from Handicap 54 on X, who has gotten some interesting scoops in the past. His initial report told a similar version of the story without names.
I tell a “funny” situation that I found out about @thesolheimcup , from different sources. I'm not going to name names, for now.

“Well, now I will give the names of this story. At the same time, I take this opportunity to clarify a detail that I explained poorly, but it is a detail that does not affect the fact. Why didn’t I tell them until now? I wanted to wait for the celebrations, and I wanted to wait for the Golf Sin Tags friends to say it (@gfcgolf and@alexlarrazabal1), who I knew had the same information and were on the course (I considered them to have priority).”
“The issue went like this: Céline Boutier, after Friday morning, asked Suzann Pettersen to play with someone other than Hall. Pettersen told [Boutier] that [s]he would play with Maguire (I explained that detail poorly) and Boutier refused. Therefore, Pettersen decided that Boutier would not play on that Friday afternoon.”

Scottie Scheffler working with renowned putting coach following year of struggles on the green

Scottie Scheffler is coming off one of the best ball striking seasons in the history of golf. The number one ranked player in the world had a solid season, coming away with both a PLAYERS Championship and a Waste Management Phoenix Open win. However, with the way he played from tee to green he would most certainly have liked to come away with a major or two.
For the season, the former Longhorn remarkably ranked 1st in Strokes Gained Total, Strokes Gained: Ball Striking, Strokes Gained: Off the Tee and Strokes Gained: Approach. Unfortunately, he also ranked 151st in Strokes Gained: Putting.
After Scheffler arrived in Rome for this week’s Ryder Cup, he was seen on the putting green practicing with putting coach Phil Kenyon. Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis has since indicated that the duo began working together last week in Dallas, Texas.
Kenyon also works with Europe’s Tommy Fleetwood, so the dynamic of working with players on both Ryder Cup teams this week should be interesting to monitor.

PGA Tour doesn’t want to see their Monopoly eroded that’s why they’re pulling out all the stops in a massive propaganda campaign almost every negative articles probably paid for by the PGA of America

TOTALLY AGREE with your opinion, AND the points made by the Pro in the article are SPOT-ON.IMHO, the PGA Tour’s tyrannical posture will only send them to their grave and ultimately hurt the game. Bottom line, the PGA Tour DOESN’T own the game and all the rights associated within it.
I believe BOTH tours could happily coexist because without the players, neither tour can be a reality and golfing fans and those who play the game, LOVE different competitive formats which the Saudis have full intention to implement.
I do believe in the next two years the Saudi Tour will grow and the PGA Tour will start to crumble into the abyss….

Has anyone noticed in the past few decades that a majority of corporate America entities are posturing as tyrannical monsters? The PGA Tour and NASCAR ARE the two biggest offenders by using any means to protect their “illegal monopolies”. IMHO, they are carbon copies of the criminal Cabal Leftist’s doing all they can to destroy the country and impose total control, censorship, and ignore our constitutional rights. IMHO, Jay Monahan sating he’ll ban players that play the new tour is a HUGE mistake, but that’s how liberals think, “it’s MY way, or the highway”. The clowns down in Augusta better wake-up and bridge the gap, or there could be past Masters Champions who just turn in their green jackets and thumb their noses at their tournament and Champions Banquet….
